Sucker Punch costume thread

Hi folks! So I attended SDCC as well, debuting my Babydoll costume. I had an absolute blast in it, I didn't realize it was going to be as popular as it ended up being! In fact the first day we got there to do some of our Gentle Giant promoting for Sucker Punch, security/fire marshalls had already given Yaya a hard time for stopping traffic! I'd hoped to stay in Babydoll all weekend but sadly one of my leather ties on my holster snapped after the con on Saturday--an easy fix for sure, but I didn't have the means to at the con, and I was supposed to do Slave Leia for them Sunday anyways. (After the reception Babydoll had gotten, I was LOATHE to get into Slave Leia.)

I saw a lot of you there! Sorry if I didn't stop and say hi, or wasn't really responsive if I did, I was on a lot of pain medication so I spent the weekend REALLY out of it. Nothing personal, I was just kind of zoned. >.< Hopefully if I didn't give you the time of day for some reason you could see my eyes just completely glazed over because that's how I felt lol.

I wish I had been able to make it to the group shoot, but I was just in too much pain to get moving in time to get the costume on with enough time to make it worthwhile before the afternoon obligation I had. I was surprised I even made it back into Babydoll that afternoon, I'm so glad Cyna Myn twisted my arm into it because despite the pain I had tremendous fun! Honestly this may just be my new favorite costume.

Before I post pictures, I have to give due credit--my pistol was overhauled by Travisses, and he did an amazing job. He sells them in the junkyard I believe. Toby threw together my holster for me as my combined birthday and christmas present, and of course I have to give a huge shoutout to my friend Alisa who made the uniform for me. She really did an incredible job and for the price of material, which was beyond sweet of her. Real life/health issues have gotten in the way of me making my own costume stuff this year so this was truly wonderful. I painted the katana sheath which looks kind of awful but it was an 11th hour thing, I'm hoping to update and get a nice accurate one. The shoes I painted as well, the heel could have been thicker and maybe a tad lower, and the strap higher on my foot, but I'm going to be sticking with them. And I couldn't find the right buttons in time so those are going to have to be replaced before Dragoncon, and I'll add them to the sleeves this time too.

(And a big thanks to Gentle Giant for giving us the opportunity to work with you guys, always a pleasure. I just wish I could have done the whole thing as Babydoll and left Leia out of the picture entirely haha!)

Parks--I saw your daughter in passing, I would have stopped and complimented but again I was pretty out of it, but I remember saying to Cyna Myn "She is just adoreable!" I'm glad she was able to make it. :)

Adding to the photos Cyna Myn posted, here are a few teasers of a photoshoot of our Suckerpunch group, with me, Cyna Myn, and Yaya Han, though sadly ScruffyRebel wasn't able to do Rocket after all :(. Piwackitt took these during the shoot, hopefully the photog we shot with will have his pics up soon!

EDIT: Wooowww sorry for the dissertation. I'm rather long winded.

Aww You guys are totally awesome! Thanks! Like I said I had a blast with this costume!! I absolutely loved the CAD poster they posted of the statue! I will totally be purchasing that when it comes out! You guys are total sweethearts! I loved seeing everyone else, they looked great!! much love to everyone seriously, cause this hobby is not inexpensive, so I understand the blood sweat and tears that was put into these projects! :) Can't wait to see more pictures! woohoo!

I took a cue from MarieGD's poster above:

If my daughter hadn't been injured, I would have wrapped her hand, her hair would have been shaped better (she refused to wear the Babydoll wig), and we would have cut off the hospital bands. But I didn't even expect her to stand that day, much less pose for pictures, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

RebellionBarbie, I thought I saw you Saturday, but wasn't sure. Thanks for your compliment. I remember your katina sheath being well painted...I still haven't attempted the snowflakes yet.

I'm trying to talk my daughter into joining the RPF so that I don't have to keep talking for her.

The replication of the onscreen costumes is getting better and better! RebBarbie and Cyna....amazing. I prefer you two to Emily and Vanessa! Great job ladies!

Wow looks like I've been gone way too long. I really want to cosplay as Blonde. My mind is made up. I would really hate to read through 40+ pages to find info on her costume but it seems I have to. Plus most of what I've read so far is about Baby Doll :(

I know about her knee pads, found the actual sports brand they used. I know about her goggles, and the boots won't be a problem.

I want to know if anyone has a pattern or soemthing they used for her body suit. Also what fabric would be good to use?

Hey there, forum! =)

I'm beginning research for my Sweet Pea costume, stumbled upon this thread, and wanted to leave some love and a heart or two for all you fantastically talented and observant people. I've read through the entire thread and can't even begin to tell you how helpful all your notes have been. The photos of all the finished costumes look gorgeous, and it's been fun inspecting them for construction details.

I've been cosplaying for a few years now; all my costumes are custom made by other people because I can't sew my way out of a paper bag. I've done Rogue from X-Men (film version), Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, and a rather horribly mismatched film version of Aeon Flux (my first homemade costume ever), but I'm mostly known for my Classic 'A New Hope' Princess Leia. I've never done a costume that shows much skin, so Sweet Pea will be a whole new world for me.

Anyway, boring introduction aside, I've been studying reference photos of Sweet Pea, and have noticed something about her hair: the coloring seems to be more of a dark, golden orange rather than a pure blonde. So something like this or maybe this might work better than just a plain blond wig. I found both those photos on Google, and it looks like they link back to eBay.

Here are a few shots of my costume and prep before Otakon last week. Haven't found any others of my costume that other's may have taken, but I'm sure they'll show up as the week progresses.

One week later, and I'm finally feeling recovered from SDCC. The past 3 weeks have been pretty crazy.

Here are some pics of my Sweet Pea... I was looking for you guys to get group shots but I didn't find y'all :( But here are a couple my friend took (theres more on my flickr if you want... http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizardjedi/sets/72157627181733213/)

There are still things I need to mess with...
The sword is pretty heavy, and likes to pull the backpack down, causing the straps to go crazy.
The mounting mechanism for the shoulder armor wasn't done, so for there it was zip-tied to the backpack... which caused it to move around a lot. I have a plan for that, just need to do it.
The garter belt is all messed up. I need to make longer straps.... if not remake the whole thing.
I broke the shotgun in the backpack, by sitting in a chair :angel. Easily fixable, but while looking at the GG statue, I noticed how they have the holster done, and it gave me an idea how to add something to it so it doesn't break again.
There are some small detailed things that I just didn't have the time to finish... that I will finish. Some backpack details, and the rosary cross.
Also about a gazillion other things.... costumes are never completed!

Though first things first, I need some better pictures.... hopefully that can be done in the next week or so...

I know what you mean, but I personally wouldn't go with either of those colors, because they don't look natural. They seem better suited to anime or video game characters. These wigs are flat colors, where as Sweet Pea has more than one color in her hair. Amphigory tends to have good natural color wigs and you can get ones that are highlighted with a second color.

I bought my wig from a company on eBay called CogMarc. They sell a beautiful mixed blonde wig that I think comes very very close to the photos. It's the one I'm wearing in my photos posted above. They're super affordable and ship fairly quickly as well. I think I got mine within a week of ordering.

This is what my wig looked like before it got all snarled from constant movement and scrubbing against the shoulder straps.

P.S. Sorry to photowhore

(Me as Babydoll, Cyna Myn as Blondie, Yaya Han as Amber)

And of course, after this day of the con, I realized I had the katana slung on the wrong side. *sigh*

Parks--haha the paint job on the sheath was seriously an 11th hour hurried job, I thought it looked a little too Luis-Vuitton. :lol
