Sucker Punch costume thread

where did u get the babydoll gun grip with the cherry design, thats all i need left for my pistol

Pm sent, but the gist of it is that this post wasn't of my gun, it was a quote of Vos's gun. I'll be making mine in the next few days. I got really sidetracked making a Nimbus 2000 for a friend, and haven't worked on the pistol lately.

I'll be making mine by cutting some disks of dowel rod ~ the right diameter, drawing the design in pencil, dremeling the design into it, and painting it silver.

It seems like Babydoll is getting all of the love in this thread :(

Anyone out there still working on Sweet Pea? I'm looking at the lining fabric for the duster and I can't decide what to use. It has a lot of texture to it....do you think its linen or more silk noil (like Babydoll) or something I'm not thinking of?

And does anyone with the art book have a good pic of what her reddish-brown bracelet is? I haven't been able to find a good detail pic yet and I don't remember seeing it discussed in this thread.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I'm still trying to work on Sweet Pea, just have not had anytime to devote to it atm.
But the coat lining was hard for me to find as well. I went with something that is called onasburg. Its pretty inexpensive and has the coarse type of natural textile look the lining has. And its already the oatmeal color too.
You could even distress it a bit more and it should be perfect.

The bracelet looks to be like a small very distressed leather belt to me.
The other one is hard to see...almost like a chain on a bike? Its so small.
I was just looking into beads for the rosary type accessory and started thinking about the 2 bracelets as well.
The leather looks like the same sort of leather around the upper cuff on the extended part of her gloves.
Question for you...
Any ideas on her rig for the weapons? :confused

Since you are an expert, then you probably already know that WW1 marked a turning point in textiles. Many companies experimented with new treatments to make fabrics (especially cotton) waterproof and somewhat resistant to fire. Some treatments, like wax, sealed the fabric well but made it unsuitable in situations where it might be exposed to fire. Eventually, certain weaves and treatments gave cotton the durability required of field uniforms. Before WW1, wool uniforms were the standard; afterward, cotton grew more prevalent until it almost completely supplanted wool. In more modern times, synthetics made an appearance but cotton is still preferred because synthetic fibres melt into the skin when exposed to heat, complicating healing (cotton turns to ash). I know this from personal experience.

Yes, I have two degrees in costume technology/design. History and textiles were both part of that and I could go on for days on this. But, Let us please stop derailing the topic. I was merely extending cool trivia with my last post and not trying to continue any unnecessary argument.

My sweet pea is still a wip. I'm making the "duster" out of real leather. I'm about half way done with that. I've finished up the harness, just trying to figure out how to rig on my shot gun that sits on her back. Sadly in the movie they used a foam replica...so it was light weight and my airsoft is not >.< So im trying to figure out a way to get it to sit in the harness they designed with out having to alter it to much. I'll post some progress pictures up here soon when I have a few more. :) Going to have this done by SDCC this year.

Also, i'm right there with out about the reddish-brown bracelet. Have no idea what that is and have been trying to search for better high quality pictures to get a good look but I haven't had any luck. :(

epilepticsquirl i have a question for you...
my friend is so kind to offer me her metal katana for my babydoll costume and I was wondering, would you be able to make a decal for the katana?? :p if not, it's all good! just an idea that popped into my head :)

Back to topic, then. The original question was: Where can a Wise Man trench coat be found? Answer is not easy. I am fairly familiar with the WW1 re-enactment vendors and the only overcoat I know of that is available is the issue heavy serge coat. That won't do. Not only the wrong fabric, but also the wrong style. Somewhere, you have to find an olive-drab coat (either wool or cotton) in the Burberry style. The U.S.-pattern trench coats (WW1 and WW2) don't have the same features (like the buckle strap on the cuffs) as are shown on Wise Man's coat.

if he doesn't have a katana blade to measure the decal's scale (and remember the actual engraving comes close to the hamon but doesn't touch it), it will be hard for him, but nice suggestion ^^

Well, I'm another working on Sweet Pea.

The pictures of the Gentle Giant statue kind of show how the sword and shotgun are rigged up. There is this weird backpack thing (with the green straps) that has the scabbard and the gun holster attached.

My plan is to make a custom holster for the gun once I get the airsoft. Probably vac-form some plastic over it, and cover it in something (CF maybe, I dunno what it really looks like)

That part is whats next on my things to work on.

Hey all!

Im planning to do the Babydoll outfit for Midlands mcm expo in the UK next february. It's proving to be abit of a challenge because some of the things i cant buy over here. The holster is okay although it wont look exactly like it :/ the gun and the sword is what is going to be most difficult. the gun is gonna cost me £80 and the sword im just gonna use one i own.

Does anyone have any tips on where i can get some of the items or fabrics cheaper?

thanks :)

I think you're the first person I've seen in this thread who's from the UK. If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your holster from?

Also, a general Babydoll question. This sounds a bit silly, but where are people getting her single glove from? It sort of looks like she's just wrapped a bandage around her hand but I'm not so sure.

You are indeed correct in that it is just wrapped like a bandage or a boxing hand wrap and it's not a glove. Use whatever fabric your going to use for the grey parts of the costume.

Blah, I missed the last few posts

While I would love to, Interceptor is right in that the differences in swords are so great that I can't accurately print out decals without having the sword in hand to measure and go off of. I'm more than willing to work with you though to see if we can't get a good decal printed out for you!

i think you also messaged me on e-bay. If so I can kill two birds with one stone. I know with the current laws the way they are it's difficult for you to buy an airsoft. However I did find this site that will ship without requiring for you to be a UKARA member.
Colt*1911*A1*::*Colt*::*BB...
With a little TLC this one should get you started on a decent Babydoll pistol. it's more or less the same pistol, just need to paint it and fix the grips. Do so at your own risk though! I'm not versed that well in UK law so be advised.

If you need help with the charms, I can get some for you and ship to the UK if you want.

hey again

yeah i didnt think there was many people from the uk on here. Although we do have airsofting shops its just alot more expensive to buy. so i have to buy a clear gun and then change the slide. where ill get that from i dont know. the holster im looking at a couple. however they arent like babydolls they are just tan coloured. you cant even buy leather ones here i dont think. so im at a major disadvantage because most things i need have to be shipped over from america.

YES! i did message you on ebay! i didnt know youd be on here haha! thanks soooo much for the offer. and i may have to take you up on it in about a months time! when i have the funds. the gun you sent me is clear but im gonna need a silver one wont i? im guessing i need to get another slide?

another question id like to ask does any one do the decals for the sword? i want to put them on my sword so it looks cool hehe :D

Risu i might need your help in making Babydolls gun holster, would you be willing? About how much do you think it would cost to do? :) x

My boss and I were just talking about how all the girls in this movie have excellent leather gear. We're up for making anything that's asked of us, so long as you have reference pictures to work from.

Lauren, im from the UK too and im having loads of bother finding UK things to use. Found a good Airsoft 1911 replica BB gun on a uk site for £18 so just need to spray it cos its bright orange lol :)
You can get a few holsters off etsy from America that are Babydoll replicas that people have done really well :) Theres a lovely girl on there that makes the charms for Babydolls gun too :)

YAY! Another UK MEMBER! haha im buying the Colt 1911A1 that i got advised to get. Have also got to spray paint that. It's also hard for me to buy it cause i turn 17 this summer and i have to be 18 to buy the gun. The holster im currently looking at this one:

Flyye 1000D Shoulder Pistol Holster w/Mag Pouch Coyote Brown [AS2264] - $21.60 : Airsoft-Club.com, Online Shop for Airsoft Parts & Tactical Gears

I can't find anything really close to baby doll's holster so please if you would link me to one more similar to that one. Thanks :)

Im hopefully starting the gun next week as an airsofting project with my boyfriend soooo! haha first time spray painting! :D

I made my Baby Doll wearable enough for the con this past weekend. I don't know if this picture link will work but its all I can post from my cell right now :)
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hpho...0189630565994_751080993_7163949_1413511_n.jpg

I didn't bother with the gun or holster since the con had a very strict replica gun rule. I will do them for Dragon*con. I had the sword but its not pictured because we couldn't carry props in the dealers room. Waiting on better pics from a friend.
Before D*con I need new shoes, thigh his, and the gun. Overall I was happy with the costume. I don't think it was very well received but it was an anime con. I did have some people recognize me.

Did my first test run of Babydoll this weekend, despite being at an anime convention it was very well received. Got lots of compliments on it and people who knew who I was.

My more accurate wig, of course, arrived the day after I left so I had to wear my old, darker one; but I have the new one now and love it <3 <3 it's so perfect, right color and wavy without being too curly. I'll get pictures later.

Sword arrived in time to paint the scabbard and do the designs on the blade but not enough time for the hilt and re-wrapping the handle. Also am looking into getting better/more accurate thigh highs.

Over all, I had a ton of fun in this costume! Can't wait to wear it again and do more versions!

Better pictures later o3o!
