Sucker Punch costume thread

I'm getting really frustrated with the whole katana business. I have yet to find a strap I really like, I feel like I recognize the kind of braided rope from somewhere but I can't place a name to it. I've basically given up on trying to find an accurate grip and all, just don't have the time/energy/money to even think about commissioning it right now.

It's a sailor rope/knot. My mother owns a boat, she knows a little bit about this sailor stuff and showed me one of these ropes.

here's a photo of how to do it.

it's a sample, you must do it longer, and the final rope will look like this.

10 pleats, that back shot you posted gave me a reference for "contecting the dots", so to speak. Thanks. Pattern is done, just waiting on the fabric now!

Some friends and I are also working on costumes. I just got my shoes for Babydoll from Last Call.

I also just ordered the FRYE Betty ankle strap pumps from the Last Call site. If you buy them by the 12th, they are $91 dollars after shipping, which is more than 50% off the retail price.

That's the shoes I got. I originally posted a pic, but as it was my first official post on this forum, the mods yanked the pic. :(

There is also a free shipping code, so you shouldn't have to pay shipping either! I was told they run a little small, so I ordered the next size up and now they are a little big. But I'd rather too big to too small as my feet swell at con after standing for hours. On the bright side, they are super comfy!

Shoot, I already paid for shipping. At least it was only $5. I got a half size bigger, but that's because my wife wears a 5.5 and the smallest they have is a 6. Good to know they run a little small.

Working on both Dr. and Madam Gorksi. I have a "cheater" version of both Gorski's outfits for a con next week, and hope to get an upgrade finished for D*C. As there aren't many costuming options for 40+ women, I really took to these.

Joining the ranks on these costumes. I'll be working on a Sweet Pea.
There is so much great info in here girls!!!
Reading through 24 pages was crazy, I have the boots, gloves and all the undergarments sans the piece on the bra.
Planning on doing the coat in leather. Or do you all think it could be suede.
I opted for boots in suede rather than leather, they looked suede imo.
Plus they are a bit more forgiving when they are snug like that.
Be checking in here and open to ideas from anyone who's done her already.

Gosh dang it! Ugh!!! What are Blondie's and Sweet Pea's shoes?!?!?!? I've been frigging looking on the computer all day trying to find shoes. I know I asked this question before, but I can't add onto other shoes, this is so difficult. *sweat* *sweat*

Hello!! :)

I was wondering how you got the boots? Did you make them or did you buy them??

YESSSS! Thanks! I started to make my strap today and I was completely LOST. I did manage to sew up the strips to begin making the rope...then i decided to check the thread and here is the answer. ^_^

I love this thread. :love

I'm not that poster, but I had luck finding plenty of suede boots similar to blondie's on ebay and various other sites. It took a week or so of looking but i found a pair i'm happy with and I'm going to add the zippers and leather details with barge cement.
I also found thigh high boots for my sweet pea on ebay as well.
They're out there, ya just gotta dig a bit and depends how much you're willing to spend as well. Lots of boots are 150$+ so we dug until we found some used ones for 25$, but if you're willing to spend more its easy.

amber's hat is a british side cap
They have some on ebay.

I don't know of any patterns, but that type of hat should be available at any uniform or army navy store. The only thing is the cut would have to be modified. So you should be able to dissemble the real one to make the pattern. IMHO the Suckerpunch one does seem to be of a more European cut.

Just thought i'd include a small update to my 1911. I actually scored a great deal on a malfunctioning airsoft WE All Metal 1911. I wanted WE in particular because there are no silly markings on the slide, perfect for this project. I still got to work on the grips; but I figured I'd test out the Decals on the Metal. They actually hold on surprisingly well! Going to take a wire brush to them off, which is what i wanted in the first place, so success in that department! These decals aren't my final iteration as these need major clean up.

Looks amazing epilepticsquirl. I have the exact same gun! Love the real metal and how heavy it is. I'm sourcing wooden grips for mine right now. Cheapest I can find are about $36 let me know if you find any cheaper. :thumbsup

I'm currently planning on my Babydoll costume. Although I originally intended to do Blondie, I picked Babydoll instead coz I wouldn't pass off for Blondie as I'm so gosh damned tiny.

Anyway, I'm still on the hunt for a prop gun to use, although it's a little difficult to look for such things in the Philippines. So I'm browsing online for cheaper ones because the ones I found were around $40 or so. Although I've commissioned a friend who does clay mini figurines as a business to make the charms on Babydoll's gun. Plus she charges only 35 pesos each (less than $1) for the chibi clay dolls she creates.

But does anyone know how to distress linen fabric without ripping it up? Because according to the Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props website, Babydoll's uniform was made of distressed linen.

@firstsonofsolo: Thanks for the link! Now I know that they're flamenco shoes and know what to ask :)

@epilepticsquirl: Awesome job :)

Awesome thread!! Great reference pics and info. Love all the costumes made so far and can't wait to see more!

I'm working on Blondie, and for the boots it's looks like a knee-high pair of boots were used and a suede topper was added, likely for comfort since the knee (elbow) pads are worn over top.

Just got word from Amazon that my order for the movie art book has been cancelled. Boo!
