Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - FINISHED PG 3

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Looking really good so far, those box pleats are so crisp!! You said you got your sailor fuku pattern from japan...can you point me in the right direction as to where? I have an old one I got for free out of a magazine but it's too stylized.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Jordan, your progress is awesome so far! I can't wait to see Jade at Dragon*Con! :) I'm actually working on Amber currently, we'll see how that goes. XD

Thanks Tiney, saw your progress in the other thread and it's looking good! I actually have more progress then what's here, but with the brooms I've been making, the fact that it's the end of the school year, and I just finished running 1 of 2 FULL DAY FIELD DAYS for my school, I haven't had much time to post progress on this one. This is my last week with the kids, so expect the progress to speed along after this week. DC timing is perfect for me because I have all summer to do costumes and work out since I won't have to work again until the end of August!!! :cool

PS -- I'm reaaaallllllly hoping you decided to do Cho Chang's Yule ball dress so I can wear my Dress Robes to DC again...........pretty please!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

:lol I'm going to try to do Cho's Yule dress, but I'm not sure if I'll get it done in time. It's the pink embroidered flowers that scare me as I've never done embroidering before. I'll let you know. :D

Here's the magazine I got mine from, but it will need many mods to look like the BD version.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks for sharing so much of how you're creating the costume. Really great for anyone else who might be working on a similar project.

I have a friend who's awesome at matching screen used fabrics for potter costumes who's going to help me try to find you something!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Really, you just need decide what your budget is and go from there. What you're looking for is a T-Strap Mary Jane Pump with about a 3" heel. These were about $95 after shipping because I caught them 40% off the sale price on the Neiman Marcus Last Call site.

Thanks for the link. My daughter changed her mind just 3 weeks shy of Comic-Con to do Babydoll instead of Amber. I have been scrambling to get her new costume ready and the shoes were impossible to find in my price range. I used the Last Call link that you provided and got the shoes -- in her size, thankfully -- at 50% off. We're all ready now and you'll see Babydoll escorted by a German soldier zombie at SDCC.

Saw the pics you posted in the other thread and they looked great! I've been out of state for a while for my sister's wedding, but I now have the shoes, tights, katana (still waiting on paper to print out decal), skirt, headband, gun, charms, and hand wrap done.....just have the top, holster, sword strap, and scarf left! Pics will come of the current progress as soon as my paper comes in to print the decal for the blade.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Sounds like you've got a lot done. :) I'm currently working on the holster for Amber and it's going pretty well. Can't wait for more pics!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

So with my sister's wedding :), jury duty :cry, and tons of Harry Potter projects for other people :eek, this project was on hold...but is back in production. Just have the scarf, top, and holster to go and it's done. Here's some update pics, if you have any questions, ask away!

Pic 1 -- overview of the created pieces
Pic 2 -- Refinished heel on shoes, and sword strap. Will most likely dye sword strap darker.
Pic 3 -- Charms, bought off Etsy
Pic 4 -- Sword and sheath -- all wood
Pic 5 -- Guard Handle side (dremeled on both sides to include cherries and daisies from a circle wood guard)
Pic 6 --Guard Sword side, Handle wrapped in same vinyl I will use for holster.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

I'm working on Babydoll's costume and I had just some quick questions. For the blade, how did you get the design on the blade? Is there some sort of decal I can find or can you direct me to the place to get the decals? Or if you have some spare ones, may I buy them from you? Also, for the pleated skirt, can you remind me how you did the measurements? You mentioned having to go back and correct for a measuring error? And the last question I have is for the top, since it is form fitting below the chest, do you recommend putting a zipper some where? Thanks so much for all your help!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Amazing work!! what did you use for your sword strap was it a saego?
The shoes look spot on! This is so screen accurate!! :) x

Thanks girls!

I'm working on Babydoll's costume and I had just some quick questions. Also, for the pleated skirt, can you remind me how you did the measurements? You mentioned having to go back and correct for a measuring error?

1. Blade -- ask Epilepticsquirl, he makes waterslides and can scale it to the length of your blade if you give him measurements. He has a junkyard thread for the gun decals, but I don't think he actually has a thread listed one for the sword decals.

2. Skirt -- it wasn't a measuring error, it was a math error. I didn't double check the numbers I was putting in which caused me to make the pannels slightly bigger than what they should be, so they were too long in total when I finished.

3. Top -- The top is now finished, and it is VERY formfitting. My wife is a tiny woman (00 or CH 12), but I didn't realize just how much smaller a Japanese Sm is than an American Sm. Because of this I inserted an inverted, invisable zipper in the right arm pit seam so it will not be seen when she lifts her arm as much. See attached pic.

If your intimidated by putting in an invisible zipper, don't be. this was my first one, and it's not hard once you know the concept. Just make sure to buy a zipper labeled "invisible zipper". Otherwise ou may not be ale to find it, being invisable and all. ;) Here the tutorial I used to learn.

Search for this on ebay --
#STA006 SAMURAI KATANA BRAID SAGEO BEIGE COTTON ITO

It's the best price I could find, but will need to be dyed slightly darker. It's cotton though, so it shouldn't be a problem

Update:

All pieces of the costume are finished except for the gun holster! Having done a lot of leather work before on previous costumes, I should be able to get this done in a few hours this weekend when I have time to run to Tandy and get the last few bits of leather I need. Pics to come this weekend of the finished costume!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks for that info! that was what i had been searching for just thought yours looked so spot on that id check it was the same thing :D

i love the material you have used for the top and skirt it looks worn like hers in the film!

Bet your wife is dying to wear the completed outfit now! :)

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks so much for all your help!! I might actually see both of ya'll at Dragon-con, how crazy is that!!? XP Is your wife going to make it to the big Sucker Punch photoshoot Friday afternoon? Oh, and you answered all my questions! I finished the pleating on the skirt, just have to make the yoke now, and then work on the top. I was thinking about just adding buttons along the front of the top, since the scarf/tie and belt will cover most of it. For the sheath holder, I might not get it in time, but I went hunting around and think I can use something from Hobby Lobby if I don't get it in time. I will definitely look at asking Epilepticsquirl about getting a decal for the sword. Went to Tandy Leather a little while back and got all the materials to make the shoulder holster, now I just need to make it. XP Again, thanks for all your help!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Any time! My wife won't likely be at the Friday Sucker Punch shoot because Friday night is always 300 costumes for us. If she can sneak it in, she will, but for right now the plan is for her to wear it saturday night while I wear my new Spiderman costume.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Oh, last quick question, did you use any sort of sealer for the decals and if there is, can I find it in stores because I don't have time to get it in my DC. Do you think I'd be okay without it?

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Beautiful progress so far, this costume is very well done, can't wait to see you all suited up!!!!
Kepp up the amazing work!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

heya i used this as a sealer for the decals for my gun. im not sure if your from the uk but if you tried a diy store or any car/bike store they may have something similar. or apparently you can use clear nail varnish (but i think that has the chance of going wrong? :s) x
