Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - FINISHED PG 3

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks, got a lot of work done on the pistol and shoes this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled for an udate later tonight! Already took the pics, just didn't have time to get them posted.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

She wears it a little higher on her waist than what is in the pictures, and when it's there it's as short as I can make it without her backside hanging out. Disappointing, I know, but she IS my wife.

We'll, lets start with the shoes. When I got the shoes, they had a little bit of a bluish tint to them, so the first step was to put some black leather dye on them. Next I had to color in the gold lines near the heels black to cover them up. I then painted the brown edges with acrylic paint. All that they need now is the clear coat. I didn't paint the brown stripes on the shoe that continue from the straps because in order for them to look right, they would need to follow the same line as the strap. If I follow that line, the lines will go too close to the heel and not to the bottom middle of the shoe.

I might also sand down the heel and re-stain it to match the screen used shoes more closely, but for the most part they are finished.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Now for the gun, also not completely finished yet, but here's the progress so far.....

1st pic -- the airsoft I ordered and the decals from epilepticsquirrel. If your doing a BD gun, I HIGHLY RECOMEND THEM!!! I picked this particular version because it was already silver (if paint gets scratched, it will show the silver underneath) and came with a red removable barrel plug besides the orange tip. This will allow my wife to removed it for pics, but still have an orange tip for saftey/legal reasons.

2nd pic -- next I removed the screws to take the grip and weights apart. Easier than masking them off, plus I have plans for them.

3rd pic -- held the slide back and used pvc cutters to remove the red tip. I left a small sliver of red on the gun which peeled off after, indicating that it was actually weakly glued on and didn't need to be cut off.

4th pic -- trimmed waterslide decals. All edges were cut within 1mm of the outer edge of the artwork to minimize visability of the decal edges.

Here's pics of the gun with decals and clear coated, but with no grips yet. Just TRY to find the seamline on the decal! :D

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

And here's the grips. I noticed that a lot of people are kinda ignoring the diamonds at the top and bottom of the grip, but I wanted them on there. Started by drawing them out with a sharpie, and then took out the texture with and exacto chisel and sandpaper. They just need to be painted, and I need to make the double cherry coins to go into the middle and the gun will be done, minus the charms.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Holy hell that look amazing! Great job! :thumbsup

edit: I'm still in awe about how close you managed to cut those things!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks! Really good pair of art scissors and a year of a Grapic Designer Teacher making me cut out everything by hand before I was allowed to make stuff on the computer made for some mad cutting skills!

This is coming out BRILLIANTLY. Since you're spending so much time on screen-accuracy, are you going to try & re-shape the mainspring housing so it's flatter, instead the old-school curved one? Seems almost a shame not to...

Anyway, again, AWESOME.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thinking about it, but unfortunately I've got a lot on my plate with my wife's costumes, my friend's brooms, and my costumes, plus dieting down/exercising to wear the Spartan at DC again. It will most likely be something I'll go back to once I've finished everything, or I'll just start from scratch again on the pistol since I have another set of decals and just sell this one.

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Where did you get the pistol? I am trying to find one exactly like the one you have. You can PM me if needed. All the gas powered pistols I am finding have a slide around grip!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

I bought it off ebay from a company called United Outdoors that specializes in airsoft. It cost me $25 with free shipping. As stated before though, the mainspring housing isn't accurate. It was just a little more important at this time for me to have the removable red barrel plug and for it to be silver in case it gets scratched. Repainting things that have decals already on them is a complete headache.

Here's the exact title for the gun:
UTG NEW UHC 1911 HEAVY WEIGHT AIRSOFT PISTOL SILVER

I like your guns and envy your talent in making something like that =)

Now I have a question : Where do you get the shoes from? I have already been searching for these, but i can´t find any... so could you tell me where do you get them, please?

Have a nice day,

Nex

Really, you just need decide what your budget is and go from there. What you're looking for is a T-Strap Mary Jane Pump with about a 3" heel. These were about $95 after shipping because I caught them 40% off the sale price on the Neiman Marcus Last Call site.

Thanks for your help...;) and yeah, you´re right..hmmm...

Then, good luck with your wife´s costume! :thumbsup

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Awesome job on removing the checkering from the grips(not to mention the level of commitment :)); I agree with you however that it just looks "off" without the smooth sections (and is much more noticeable than the curve of the mainspring housing).

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Wow, amazing commitment! You've done such a fantastic job on everything so far!

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP

Thanks for posting where you got the decals from, your a life saver! Will look so much better than the design drawn on in pencil :p

Re: Sucker Punch - Babydoll Costume - WIP
