I have ran out of actual Id's now so its free form in from here on in. Stabilizers are still to be attached but the end is nigh!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Rich, still a ways to go yet but I can smell the Tamiya paint & here the airbrush like a distant sound on the horizon. Oooohhh

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Oh yeh! there is also a twist at the front that if I sanded out I'd loose too much of the tongue wall slopes. I can live with it as my eye site is quite wonky anyway. I have to keep reminding myself its my first attempt at this stuff so it aint going to be an award winner.

You're too humble and don't ever bet on it not winning an award!

Outstanding.:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks guys, I can smell the end is nigh. I really wanted to get this as close to the studio A wing models as possible as far as I know there is only me & Michael that will have almost studio accurate A wings & that is something I'm really chuffed with. I feel I know it better than my own soul know! Well maybe not!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Wow, you've done a great job Guy. That's an awsome build. Can't wait to see it all prettied.....ooops I mean dirtied up with paint and weathering :lol
I'm sure you'll do a magnificent job on that.
Cheers, JT

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Rats, I'm so trying to get it to the paint stage, just cant find the time to get much done at the moment. Saying that I had a go at Vac forming for the first time this weekend & managed to pull a close ish version of the thing on the top of the rear cockpit bulkhead & worked out a way of keeping the shape to the bendy straws by adding springs inside them. It worked a treat.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I'm in awe, Guy. :love
Makes me wish I was more of an ROTJ man... Still, the A is one of my fave designs.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Allan mate, I'm Empire all the way to be honest but I always liked the A wing as a ship. I think ROTJ had some great ships & they def never got enough screen time.

A bit more done over the Easter brake, I've nearly got the vector rings finished tonight also.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Guy, it looks Excellent. You Definetly did a great job on a kit that some said was un buildable. and to think where it almost ended up.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Al, It did really strike a nerve with me the way these hulls got bashed, I've had a few requests to post on it RI so its up there now as well. I'm going to try n keep it on topic but from my title people who know about the history & politics will know what they are & where they came from.

As my first proper build ever I'm really really chuffed with how its come out, I just hope I can get enough time to throw some paint at it before time gets the better of me with work. I reckon that I've studied the ref so much that I could paint every scratch with my eyes closed so its going to be a quick turn around I hope. I may even get the base coats on this week.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks for the kind words chaps, Its spurring me on to get it ready to paint. Only a few more bits to add & its time to clean the old airbrush.

The strips on the rings are a little deeper than on the ilm models, I cant afford to be to anal at this stage , only a few days left to get it finished. I added all the inner strip by eye, I didn't count the amount they're was on the ref material but it I think maybe 4 per side are missing but it looks the part to me.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Guy I will get you a canopy puled this week ,so you can get her finished!!!:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Mike, no rush mate.

Been working on the cockpit rear today. I noticed a patch work pattern on the studio mini that looked like material behind the pilots head. Its quite scruffy looking.

I scribed the lines into styrene then opened them with a triangle file then smeared filler over it all with my fingers. When it had dried I gave it a light sanding to soften the edges. When its painted black it should look quite close to the original.
