Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

PM sent Guy!

Matt

If anyone wants to part with a set or 2 or the 312T4 wheel parts above also shown in post 234 I'd be willing to pay. This build is breaking the bank but I'd offer a decent price not to have to buy 2 x Tamiya 1/12 312T4's.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Guy

Sorry buddy, i dont have a T4, never bagged one due to it not being used on anything on my radar as yet....pretty sure its not on anything TESB anyway.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Dont worry mate, its my impatience to get stuff also. I've got a 312T on the way from Japan but its a great donor kit so worth having anyway.

I think I'm sorted with the 312T4 parts thanks to some very very very nice RPF's.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Looking great, Guy. You have quite the touch for scratchbuilding and I love the attention to the little details!

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Eye candy mate, there's some serious construction pics there, but man it's looking wicked!. I may be swayed to make one later after seeing how good this one looks, Hmmmm, maybe 1/12th!.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks Al, Stu. I'm trying guys.

Kind words fellas, I'm truly loving this build & have decided to add my own touch, although not canon I've gone for a real after burner type look to the thrusters. Its all very much pushed into place at the moment just t see what effect I can get but I think even if its not the ILM way it does look pretty damn cool. I may even make it so I can switch to ILM mode, but that will be a lot of hassle.

Please let me know if its OTT, I do like it though.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Update no: 123

Covering the rear armature mount!

I know the that the hole rear section is removed on the ILM version but I wanted to keep this in place whilst it is mounted form the rear.

I will make the whole section as one solid piece then fix it in place permanently. so how to cover the hole & have easy access for the Pana mount.

Stage 1: Using the pulls Mike did I have doubled their thickness with Styrene sheet from the inside. Then make the kidney shape plates for the rear.

Stage 2: The rear plate had to have the center section removable, so I made 2 kidney plates in 2mm & 1.5 mm styrene. Drilled the locating hole in the thicker piece the cut the thinner piece into 3 & laminated them together leaving the center section free. Now I have a trap door that I can attach the donors to that will make a handle to pull it free. It fits as snug as a bug in a rug & thankfully I dont need to use magnets.

Now the test fit

So far so good, no doubt when I get the donors on it will be impossible to remove the plate but he! Thats just a hole new set of challenges.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

This is a part that needs to be re-done in resin, sorry it's not better
Guy but again you made it look good!!!!:lol:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

They're fine mate, I'm sure if you dissect the A wing like I am then you could pick faults in everything but I've got to that stage where I just want it done now. Just the smallest detail can take hours. I have been working on the detail inside the the thrusters all night. I'm not being much fun for my girlfriend so I'm taking a break for a few days ( I know I'll be itching to get my hands on it though.

I have thickened the inside walls of the thrusters & added a new ridge inside ^ the steps up to the projector lens. It doesn't look like much but it's taken me hours to get it done. Only one hickup, I got a few calculations wrong somewhere, so there is one more step on the left thruster than the right. Bollox. They do look a ton better though & I think if I hadn't said most people wouldn't notice. I did consider stripping it out & starting again, but the 4 rings on the right reach the same height as the 5 left steps. So my inner wall must have one more laminated strip than the other.

Anyhow

All the LED's are fixed in place now, a cool thing happened I placed the UV led pointing through the Yellow LED & the effect is awesome. It changes color when you view it from different angles.

They may be non-canon Guy, but those engines look seriously cool :thumbsup
Do you have a UV led in behind the yellow ones?
Cheers, JT

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I do mate, its pointing straight through the yellow LED.

I cant stop looking them, I want to do a scratch build that has 50 thrusters. Cool

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I new I couldn't leave it alone, tidy'd up my kits to make room for the gepards that are slowly arriving & found this.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

:love:thumbsup Nice........ in second pic it has that threaded look
like the original filming mini, good job hooking that up in
there Guy!:thumbsup

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

A little update, just got back from a few days away & I wanted to get the front end wrapped up. what a nightmare its been. I wish I'd of followed Mike's lead with this. I want to replicate the angles of the ilm model but without it being a separate piece for the mount point.

The front end is giving me a lot of trouble & it wont ever be truly neat like the standard of all the great builders around here but it does look quite close. Only the top side is done so far.

This was really tough to achieve but I'm glad I tried. a lot of surrounding panel lines were lost or ruined & I''m chasing my tail to get them looking better, I want to fill the the one across the tongue as its so big you could fall in it.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Oh yeh! there is also a twist at the front that if I sanded out I'd loose too much of the tongue wall slopes. I can live with it as my eye site is quite wonky anyway. I have to keep reminding myself its my first attempt at this stuff so it aint going to be an award winner.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

I think it looks great Guy, and I never noticed that it was angled in there,
thats why I never tried........ignorance is bliss works for me!:lol:thumbsup
