Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Thanks so much guys, your input always means a lot to me.

At last me reflector's arrived for the engines. They worked out a perfect fit & it wasn't too much trouble to get the halogen bulb out intact without killing anyone.

I have done a few tests with different LED's & I'd love your opinions?

On the ILM model its an off white/yellow but its always hard to tell with exposure variants. I've whittled what I have down to 2 different types & am waiting on 2 more to try.

I have also added a 1/35 tank detail as an LED mount that really suits the ship, not canon but it will hardly ever be seen lit & the tank part looks kinda cool when its not lit.

V1: a warm white 5mm wide viewing angle LED with the tank part in place. Its more like the ILM model and really picks up the colors on the reflector but isn't very bright for a thruster?

This one is a Yellow 5mm 20 degree LED that has a very orange look to it. No tank part in these shots? Its a lot less like the ILM model but looks way cooler in my opinion?????

This is the raw engine parts with the tank part in place, its a dark grey but the flash has washed it out. If I can I want to try and mount 2 yellow 3mm LEd behind the tank part with the tank part & Warm white LEd sat proud of the reflector dish by a few mm, hopefully this will alow yellow/orange light to spill through around the edge of the Tank part on to the reflector. I'm hoping it will work.

I also had to bite the bullet & buy a shed load of Gepards as I decide that this build wont have any resin on it, so if anyone want to trade or needs A wing parts let me know?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

:lol Ya you have to dig out that powder that holds them in there very carefully!!!! They should be around 50mm, the trim ring is designed to sit (and be glued) on the lip in the PVC coupling, then the reflector sits down into the trim ring. The lip around the edge of the reflector should lay on the front of the trim ring and keep it in place. But I am not sure about the reflectors in the UK if it will work this way for you?
But if you were wondering thats how I worked mine out, I just hot glued the back side of the reflector to the trim ring/coupling! I like the second picture in the dark with the amber glow.........NICE!

Regards,
Michael

I agree mate, I like the amber glow as well, hopefully I'll be able to pull off a mix of the 2.

I used some 0.030 styrene strips to thicken up the pvc ring that houses the reflector. I can get it a bit closer to the studio look doing it this way. Its a lot more work but I think the results will be worth it. I hope ?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Cheers TJ, I'm trying best and putting long but slow hours in to get this done. I really want to try my best to get it as good as possible

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Its a good job I ordered the extra Gepards, some parts have turned up again on the ILM models. These are repeated on the opposite side & also on the Rear bulkhead. A/t the moment you need 6 in total & there is only one per kit.

Not so sure Guy, looks more like the flap on the C sprue of the Sd Kfz 232 buddy......at least for me that part hits better marker points in the hinge area.

you got me thinking now, Im pretty sure it is the gepard part but I'm tinkering away to see if the 232 part fits?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Im talking about the flap/visor on the inside of the left/right engine body Guy?
Looks 8rad to me, at least thats what i ID'd it as a while back in the thread....not sure what the part is on the outside, cant even Gamma correct that well it for a better look.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Ahha, thats not the part I'm I'dn mate its the white parts on the outside of the curved 312T housing. I can see that my line points at both parts, sorry for the confusion. I'll highlite the parts.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

highlighted in Blue mate.

The funny thing is that there are 2 parts on the C sprue that could create this triangle shape & it had me doubting the ID. So hopefully I got it right?

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Massive thanks to Lee for sorting me out today with a bunch of important donors that I was shy of. As always mate you a star & I couldn't do it with our ya buddy. I just got primer on the Ramp already. It fit like a glove first time & I have to say I'd cut the narrow end of the ramp section mm perfect, & nearly perfect at the other end.

I will be motoring through this now, thanks mate.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

Very cool, nicely done Guy, glad it all went smoothly!

lee

Thanks mate, now here's one for ya. I'm convinced now that I have the 312T part in hand that it may not be the right part? :wacko

I dont want to doubt your find but there are a few things that I cant get to add up. I'll post pics tomorrow. I may just be a tad tired.

Re: ID help Studio Scale A wing.

If anyone wants to part with a set or 2 or the 312T4 wheel parts above also shown in post 234 I'd be willing to pay. This build is breaking the bank but I'd offer a decent price not to have to buy 2 x Tamiya 1/12 312T4's.
