That is some really nice work, I wish i had skills like that. keep it up...

Thanks so much. I will do that.

Well not to bore you much further but here’s the final scribing to the saucers under belly. Most of the panels are not scribed except for the quarter panes and even they are just barely scribe to aid the builder in being able to pencil in the panels as the actual model was.

I scribed in the NAV light locations as well as all the port holes. Now I can finally move on to the saucer top and the rim windows. They shouldn't take as long now that I've redone the bottom scribes about 10 times and that's no lie. The problem is the surface and the three different densities of material. Epoxy glass, Evercoat putty and finishing putty. But I finally found the careful technique of scribing that works. Basically, take your time and go slow!

What a pain! Arggg!!!! Yada, yada. You know the drill.

Tomorrow I'll do the top and sides and it's secondary hull construction.

Steve,
Whats your take on the forward quarter portside saucer rim windows?

Symmetrical to the starboard (a la the remastered design and the "mirrored" shots of TOS) or the two window version of the actual prop?

You can always put them in if you want to. I'm doing the original version but I'm going to give it real windows like the refit. But the modeler will be able to do anything they want with it.

You have inspired to pick back up the 33 inch model I started this summer. You have also solved a lot of problems with it for me. Thank you. Is there any chance of getting a copy of your plans?

I'm really glad to hear this. About the plans I have an agreement with the person who helped me make them not to give them out. Sorry. But this site will really help you.

There's some of the 33 inch plans here but as you know this model was quite different from the 11 foot design. Most it not all of the plans are wrong on the net for that build. However the pictures of the original help point out where they are off quite well. Hope that helps.

Finally got to the saucer rim windows today. Same old thing but they came out nice. Just a little clean up. Tomorrow I'll get the top of the saucer and the dome done.

Here's some pictures.

Lots more done today. All the scribing is done except for adding the two port holes in the front of the dome I over looked. ;)

I opted to use tape for the dome window locator's or scribing. It was far too difficult to get the scribes positioned correctly. On curves in two directions, it's a night mare.

So the saucer section except for final preening is done enough to move on to the secondary hull. I'll go back over all the masters before I make any molds.

Enjoy your turkey tomorrow. Happy Thanks Giving to all of this great group here. I'll be back at it Friday. Lets build that darn lower hull next!

And I want to thank Doug Drexler and Mike Okuda for their help on this. You guys are a BIG HELP!

Steve

P.S. Here's a little video. I meant to do this all along for my Youtube account. About time I started.

My God! I am 58 years old and have cold chills watching this build. I dreamed when I first watched the show, of someday making a model this scale. I can not wait to see the updates on this. Thanks for taking me back to a better time.

Damn, you have Mike Okuda helping you on this build? You dont mess around. This thread is the reason I come back to this forum every day, keep up the good work!

Wow, Brandomack, thanks for posting this link to Jason Ware's work - you probably should start another thread. I just love looking at behind-the-scenes construction photos. These masters (Jason and Steve) have so much in common in their build and the same approach to the hull construction except different materials I guess - Jason's looks like wood slices - there's so much to learn here, thanks again for posting.

Steve, that youtube progress video's wonderful - thanks for posting that. Like what other people have said, your thread keeps me checking back on RPF.

Thanks you guys and thanks for the link! What a tough build the refit is from scratch. He did just great.

Rob thanks a whole bunch.

Yes Dough told me I could give away my secret help. You notice he's found out what a great group is here by his presents. I told him about this place yesterday and the great modelers and projects here related to Star Trek.

Doug is a super good human being and a space nut equal to that of my self. As he would say, "a brother from a different mother." Talk about a nice guy! No one in my book knows more about Star Trek (and that other favorite subject of ours, WW2) than Doug. It's great to have him here.

This is looking better every time I check in! :D Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us, Steve.

As to Enterprise plans, the "good stuff" is usually kept under wraps, true. Those Restoration photos which Steve linked to above are pretty remarkable though, and reveal much about the old girl which had been kept hidden.

The best "public domain" plans for the Enterprise are these by Allan Sinclair, from about five years ago
