If you think rivet counters are bad, try hanging out with Trekkies who are into screen accurate uniforms.
The argument between sparklyness versus sheen, in the first and second season Original Series velour is enough to make you kill.
It makes the arguments over color look simple. (1st and 2nd season IS gold! 3rd IS avacado green! I've seen William Ware Theiss' original swatches which James Cawley owns.)

Sorry. I've been in the trenches man, I've seen, I've seen too much...

That may be the case at times but it was not so this time . . . at least not about the point about the deflector spike colour, the fellow was right about that. Still I agree that pointing such minor things out while the work is in progress and to someone who obviously knows this ship quite well, is a bit premature at the very least. But it was not rudely expressed nor was he incorrect.
And here we have the perception issue. When somebody starts out with, "I hate doing this, BUT...". I read it as an excuse to be a jerk. It's quite common in fandom, after seeing the same behavior over and over it will get to you. I almost decked a snarky Trekkie at a con many years ago for just that very attitude. I was in a Klingon costume and he was in a Federation costume, it would have appropriate for the venue. The reality of the legal system is what stopped me from acting on my instincts. There is one other thing that guys attitude had on me, I never wore the costume again.

To me that comes across as very rude, ignorant and even a little arrogant.
But even your statement also comes across as rude. As to put up a similar attitude.
"But it was not rudely expressed nor was he incorrect."
But he is incorrect the model isn't finished. So how could he know what Steve is going to do next?

The video is uploading. and thanks to all the observations however. She's not finished. The spike was glued on and I painted it all copper. This enamel takes days to dry. Then the Aluminum.

Thanks Max. Oh and hey. I don't think I'm going to do the freaking grid lines. So lets get that out of the way now. To each his own. ;)

I'm back to wiring the NAVS and closing the engineering hull for good today.

This isn't just a model. This is a work of art!

If I could only hit the Lotto, it doesn't even have to be for millions just a hundred grand or so , to commision a build with Steve :)

Sorry Steve..

Too true Ray, too true.

I just need enough to put Portia through school, have Bruce build me a command chair, purchase ANOVOS' monster maroons, have Steve build me an Enterprise...and that's it. Oh and...

Thanks a Max.

Moving on thanks for re-posting the last pic. And yes that brings up a point. I will do complete commission builds of this model but contact me for price.

John I just got you're email I'm going over it. thanks for that!

The secondary hull is closed and I'm seaming it now. More later and thanks for all the great replies.

Steve

WOW! Sorry about the comments I made earlier being taken out of context Steve. I hope you didn't take it as and full frontal assalt. I go away to a model show down in Orlando for 2 days and BLAM! LOL

I meant it to be read light-heartedly as constructive input you could use. The written word comes across different people in different ways I guess. I thought it would be taken better than "Hey dude, what are you thinkin'? Dat spike is silver" LOL

Respectfully,

Tracy

The problem is, the rivet counters normally do not have a clue.

I've run into it countless times, people who think they know so much about a subject. Only they do not have any info on the subject, expect for what they saw presented. So there is a perception issue, and the counters are trying to place their perceptions onto others. Worst of all most of them are not modelers, they only point out (what they think are)problems with other people's work.

In the ST community they are quite rude about it. At least that's been my experience, they are so annoying that it makes me not want to post anything anywhere. Much less wanting to interact with other Trekkies.

I'm not the only one that thinks this way. Be very thankful Steve has been showing his work, it is a rare thing in this community.

Sorry Steve for the rant, but it will help your hit count. :lol

Well said Max! I completely agree and for the same reasons you have listed here, I rarely post on many hobby boards. I have actually found the RPF forum to be quite different for the most part. The majority of the folks here seem to respect one anothers opinions; for the most part. :thumbsup

It seems Steve is wide open to some constructive criticism amongst all the well-deserved fawning. Now, let's get back to watching him create !

Video is uploading now. Two days to close up and de-seam the secondary hull. According to YouTube 132 minutes to upload. It's not my connection it's the size of the files. To repeat they are HD and you can watch them full screen.

I mixed light ghost gray and white. A 1:1 ratio but feel it's still a bit dark. Ran out of white so tomorrow I'll get it a bit lighter. I have color charts and reference pictures of the real thing and we could argue and carry on for some length and it would be days before it had paint on it. Not on my watch. This will be to my eye.

This is a picture without flash in low light. If you see the nacelles in the BKG they are primer gray and the difference is clear.

And here's a shot with flash. Clearly this is near the right color or lightness anyway but I'm going to make it just a bit lighter.

Next up this week is making another kit but I hope to get some work on her done in the evenings. Brass sets will be here tomorrow. Bussards are on hold as the man building the boards for them got in a car accident. So I'll be waiting a bit on those.

BTW she's seamless now and Lou's windows masks are fantastic. I removed two to see the nice crisp well defined window. Thanks
Lou you rock the house!

Steve
