Star Wars: Battlefront

Its like they are taking everything people loved about the franchise and just tossing it. The thing that really pisses me is their outright lies that things aren't being saved for DLC. I mean they are making that comment and then saying "pre order and you get the first day one DLC before everyone else does". I'm even hearing now the the Battle Of Jakku DLC that is a day one DLC will only be free for the first month or so. Who are these idiots kidding. They care nothing for the gaming community at all. They will sell you 25% of the game on day one for full price and then sell the other 75% over the space of a year or so at a huge premium. I really hate being negative about something I truely love but I'd really love to kick EA in the balls just like they are us. :(

My understanding is that the free Jakku DLC comes out on Dec. 1 for those who preordered the game and a week later for everyone else.

Yes but Why not just include it with the game on the disc. The game is already lacking content. My point was that they say they are not keeping things back for DLC but to the contrary they are by enticing people to preorder so they get the first DLC when the game is released or a week after or whatever . Also my other point is that theres talk it will only be a free download for the first month or so then you'll have to pay if you want it after that.Read between the lines, they are milking us.

All I know is what they've said. As for content, I think it's hard to make a determination at this point until they break down what is actually in the game. It comes with 12 maps and some offline stuff but that's about all I know

With vehicular combat and no ADS, it doesn't really sound much like COD to me.

How did squads work in the old Battlefront games? Are they saying you can't team up with a group of friends and play together?

Wolfburg,I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful but have you played the much loved first 2 games and have followed EA's track record these last few years. Also have you been following the storm that's been happening and growing over time with fans against what EA has done in the past and now to this game. EA has a really bad rep with most gamers these days as they milk players for every $ they can in the same way as I've stated above with other games. I suggest you read up a little to see what me and others are complaining about. There are a huge number of fans of the first 2games that are just feeling really let down so far by what they've heard. Wed love to be wrong but when it comes to EA I don't think we are.

The most likely reason is that it wasn't ready yet by the time the game had to go to publishing, studios like EA love to set hard and arbitrary release dates for their games and come hell or high water the game will be released on that date no matter if it's complete or not or if it's even playable without patching first. So, chances are the Jaku stage, since it wouldn't be ready by printing time, so rather than delaying the release of the game so that Jaku can be finished and included in the game they'll just release the game as is and simply release Jaku as DLC. Of course, in the end it's still all just marketing and making something that should have been part of the game a separate download. But like I said, most publishers these days won't delay a game release for anything and with DLCs it offers even less incentive to do so since anything not ready by printing can simply be used as DLC.

No I haven't and that's why I was asking how squads were handled in the first two. At this point I feel fairly neutral about the game but honestly think some of you are overreacting and already had your minds made up long ago that you weren't going to like the game. That's how you come across, at least. You were wrong about the DLC and sounds like some of you are looking for things to nitpick. I'm fully aware of EA's money grubbing reputation but I'm just going to sit back and see how it plays out rather than obsessing over rumors and half truths and blowing things out of proportion. DICE has clearly stated they are not with holding content so I don't know what more you want. Maybe they are but until they are proven to be lying, it's not worth getting upset over, in my view. This clearly isn't a continuation of the Battlefront of old (which is why it isn't called Battlefront 3) but I'm keeping an open mind at this point.

I like you guys optimism but I've got 3 words for ya. Google EA and DLC. ;)

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I don't feel strongly one way or the other but I'm just going to wait and see and save the histrionics until we know more.

That's four words.

Be that as it may, I have to agree that I think the optimism is misplaced. I think the highest level of excitement that I'd say is warranted is "absence of pessimism."

I'm mildly pessimistic, but more about the support of the game than the underlying game design. Some of the info has been less than encouraging (did I hear there won't be drivable vehicles?), but the rest is just kinda ho-hum to me. I'm expecting a modified Battlefield with a Star Wars skin, basically. That's not very exciting to me if only because I think the Battlefield games, while fun at times, have some real problems and are really poorly supported by DICE/EA.

Yeah, support is the most worrisome aspect for me.

They confirmed you can drive AT-STs. I would assume there would be others but I'm not certain.

They confirmed it's playable, that doesn't mean you can drive it rather than you can shoot from it...

I think I am wrong and all the vehicles except AT-AT can be driven.

That's not that bad, then. But like I said, the support and ridiculous meta-grinding BS that DICE does with its games leaves me wary still.

I was actually really enthusiastic about it when it was announced. I'm not one of the "EA is ruining the world" people either. I mean take Battlefield and put SW in it. How can you mess that up? Well they're accomplishing that. I'll wait until it's released, but I'm not preordering. I'm waiting for a review first.

I'm not too upset about the whole DLC thing unless something came out proving they were purposely leaving out content to make it DLC. I played BF3 and 4 and got the Premium "service". I didn't like it, but the DLC was cheaper and I had a group to play with that was really fun. So I didn't care as much about the cost.

Just to prove I'm not a negative nancy,on a positive note the millennium falcon is playable.

Ben

What about all the games where the DLC is already on the damn disc, you just have to pay more money to unlock the damn thing?

DICE has clearly stated they are not with holding content so I don't know what more you want.

So you think saying they are withholding content is even an option????

They addressed it specifically. All I can say is they'd have to be pretty dumb to go on record saying as such if the opposite is true. People will find out. If they do plan to intentionally withhold content, it'd probably be best for them to remain coy and not address it at all.
