Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Did anyone notice that the very top of the bridge area on the ship exterior you can just make out an OFF CENTER "rim" in exactly the same shape as the shiny window/veiwscreen we've seen in the interior bridge shots? Am I seeing things? Could that be a little easter egg/inside joke for true fans?

If you mean this thing, I suppose it could be.. it looks dead center to me actually.

IF the Bridge is in fact housed in that smallest "bump" on top... this would be equivalent to how the TMP movie Enterprise was designed.

What bugs me though is that the window in the interior set seems to be angled OUT at the TOP, which is counter to the slope of the outer hull. Maybe the window is in a "cutout" in the hull, inset a bit.

The main viewscreen was never "supposed" to be a real window of course, so this would be one of Abrams' "improvements".. Then again, on the pilot versions of the TOS ship (seen in "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before"), there are suspicious structures on the outer hull which would correspond to the viewscreen location.

Judging by the small amount of evidence we have to go on, the most logical location for that window is in the area indicated on this edit of the photo that I made:

But, given the various blueprints we've seen for the Enterprise in the past, that particular room seems to be a deck or 2 BELOW the bridge. And all we see in that image is Spock and the window with the HUD overlaid onto the glass. There's no set cues to tell us definitively that the scene actually takes place on the bridge. Guess we'll have to see where that scene takes place when we see the film next year.

What I find interesting is the LACK of a slot on the right hand side.
Its almost as if we are seeing the E being refitted. We dont know WHERE this scene takes place or when so it is possible what we are seeing here is the E being refit
I dounbt seriously if in teh movie they build teh ship then brake out saws and cut out slots....

There is a slot in the right side... but it looks different. Possibly it's due to the "smoky" environment that the ship appears to be sitting in, or due to lighting perhaps.

As has been reported elsewhere, STXI's time travel plotline effectively deletes much of the TOS-era backstory before it ever happens.
