Star Trek (2009 J.J. Abrams movie) Phaser Defined Thread!

Wait..... Star Trek has ALWAYS been cool... because I have ALWAYS been cool....

.... right? Right guys.......???

Guys?????

GUYS??!!!??? I AM COOL, RIGHT???

MOM???!!!!

I guess it all depends on how someone defines "cool"..Confucius say, one man's cool is another man's crap...;)

I've never thought of Star Trek as being particularly cool (I blame the Trekkies more than the series itself).

On the other hand, Shatner's Jim Kirk is an undeniably cool piece of work. Kind of a 23rd century Don Draper without all the lying and nicotine.

OK... back to the topic at hand! :D

Whatever the new phasers look like, let's all hope that they don't look like this abomination...

Based on the description of the barrel spinning and glowing as it transitions from one setting to another, perhaps it looks something like this:

And look, it even has a built-in laser sight (below the main barrel) and a built-in mini-rocket launcher on top! :D

Still no pics of the props, no phaser, communicator or tricorder. And STILL no real pics of the big 'E'? And why is Kirk wearing a black shirt in all these pics?

I can field those... Kirk is "out of uniform" according to info that's floating around... tho the all black could well be some kind of Commando or Academy outfit.

The delta insignia is very hard to see in the "on set" pics, but in the "character" shots we're now getting (as on the Empire magazine cover), you see it pretty well.

Also the black shirt might be the undershirt that everybody is wearing beneath the color tunic, tho I think that's less likely.

As to no pics of the Enterprise, well there were a lot of "too close to see" closeups in the teaser trailer, and those can be pieced together

This is enough to tell that the saucer section at least, is very similar to the 1979 Motion Picture design which was used in all the TOS films.

The warp engine nacelles do look more bulbous and organic, possibly more like jet engine cowlings.

It seems clear that it's a story point that it's a big deal when James T. first slaps on the command gold. BUMP-bump-bump-BAHHHHH bah-dump bahDAHHH! :lol

What's scary is that just based on what Larry Young posted, I can actually HEAR the musical cue in my head.
