SS landspeeder from "5-25-77"

Still no refund here... perhaps he's not going in the order paid...

Wasili... a new nasty-gram is heading your way, buddy...

Moments ago I received this response from Wasili to my nasty-gram. At least it is a thoughtful response... I will wait until Tuesday for his follow-up. Here is the email in its entirety...

Hi Dan,

I'm working very hard on getting everybody that ordered a Landspeeder kit,
their money back.

I worked out a deal a couple weeks ago with my biggest client, for whom i've been
working for years. Commitments were made with my client, which through the
course of administrative delays, made things only worse. Due to their summer
break, and the size of their organisation, the deal is still on the board,
even though it should have been completely dealt with by now.

And that's what the whole initial 14 days for refunds was all about. Never before
did this take so long. So i was forced to go elsewhere at the last minute.
That is still being worked on for all of the remaining refunds.

I will let you know on tuesday when you can expect your refund. I want to
give you a firm date as to when you will get your money back, and not
an estimate that may become an empty promise. As i have done so with
the other people that were refunded, i will add the paypal fees as
a small compensation, so you don't loose money on this.

Everyone gets it back in the order of the list. You were the fourth.
At least, you were fourth on my list. You mention i am not refunding
in the correct order, but here is the list i have:
1) Maths Halstensen
2) Jason Eaton
3) Titanfind
4) 1138
5) Temponaut
6) GF
7) Mike
8) Vaderdarth
Maths Halstensen contacted me within minutes of the list being open, but now
i realize that he did not put down a deposit until a couple days later. I had
simply kept his name there.

I know my word means little at this moment, but in no way was i out to scam
people out of their money. The project started out in good intent, but
washed ashore bit by bit as my workload became the biggest to date. My
daytime work suffered considerably from work on the Landspeeder, and it
started to affect longtime business relations.

Truth is that the advance payments for the kits went into overhead for the
workshop, while working on the Landspeeder. And with the strong euro against
the dollar, that took care of less than i had hoped for.

I have every intent to honor this part of the deal, and i know very well
that this will haunt me for quite some time. The internet, after all, is a
very small community.

Best regards,

Wasili

I just got my refund from Wasili. I have to give him credit for coming through with it. Really the worst part of this was the lack of communication but he seems to be making good on things.

Cheers

Archie

Hi, everybody.

My apologies for the long silence. Through a series of mishaps, I've found myself without Internet access for the better part of three weeks. I'm now logging on from a Starbuck's in Portland, Oregon. :redface

I'm very pleased to see that a few people have received their promised refunds. I hope Wasili will follow through for the rest of us, too. It's a shame he hasn't the decency to post here in person, but I'm glad that other members have heard from him and are sharing his messages with us.

I'll update my list to reflect the latest information. If anyone else receives a refund, please let us know.

szarchie: At the time you ordered from Wasili, was your screen name Titanfind?

How long a delay is there going to be before the next person's refund?

Wasili?

Why don't you show some courtesy and post here? :angry

Here is the email I received from him yesterday (8/14/07). My patience grows razor thin...

Dear Dan,

With 100% certainty i can tell you you'll be refunded for the Landspeeder on tuesday the 21st of august, in the evening, somewhere after midnight.

Highest regards,

Wasili

Thanks for posting, 1138.

I'm glad to know that Wasili has given you a firm date for your refund. Please let us know if he comes through as promised.

Anyone else been fortunate to get their hard earned money back from Wasili????
According to the list, 1138 is next in line. His refund has been promised on the night of August 21.

I guess I'm next in line after that. I wonder if I'll be graced with an e-mail from The Invisible Man in order to tell me when to expect my $475.00.

Refund came through yesterday as promised: $250 (which includes a slight bump for fees).

Despite the lack of comm, Wasili came through - so I'm grateful for that. Here is the email message that came along with the refund.

"Dear Dan, here is the refund for the Landspeeder kit. I've added a bit to compensate you for the paypal fees. For what it's worth, i do apologize for the mess i caused. All the best, highest regards, Wasili"

I'm sticking this one in the category of "decent guy who got in over his head."

Hope all the rest get your refunds asap!

I'm out...

Thanks for posting the good news about your refund, 1138. I'm very happy to hear that Wasili is coming through this way.

I've always thought that Wasili is a good guy who got in too deep. And, honestly, it can be hard to know in advance what's going to be too deep.

I don't hold it against him that he took orders he couldn't fill. People make mistakes; I do it all the time! :)

What I resent is Wasili's unwillingness to communicate. I would have taken all this with a smile if he had just taken a few minutes to post regularly to this thread and let us know what's going on. To me, his unwillingness to do that is insulting. I feel that I extended him not only my trust (in the form of $475.00) but also my friendship, and in return he insulted me. I haven't felt this betrayed and unhappy about a transaction in a long time.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that Wasili is coming through on the refunds. I wonder when I should expect mine. I appear to be next in line.

Well, I have mixed feelings on this situation due to Wasili's work circumstances. It's very difficult to communicate properly within your hobbies when you are spending every waking moment catching up at the office. His livlihood comes first and unfortunately that puts the rest of us at an inconvenience with our $$$. Still it can be haggering to unexpectedly get in over your head on something like this. I will always believe that a 10% down policy is best for projects like this. Generally, 10% down from every participant would be enough to get the project rolling and then the balance would be due when the item is ready to ship. Personally, I don't like taking any funds until I'm ready to deliver the item. I have done so but am still not comfortable with it. I do wish Wasili well in his life, but hopefully he can learn from the experience as well. Now the poor guy is just scraping in every direction to comply with refunds. Refunding 10% to everyone would have been a hell of alot easier to manage.

Dave :(

The latest:

I sent an e-mail to Wasili last night (Saturday, 8/25) in order to inquire about when I might expect my refund.

This morning I was pleased to find a response from him:

Yes, you are indeed next in line. I will get back to you on thursday to let you know when you can expect your refund. I do not want to give you an estimate now, that i could not live up to. This thursday i have better insight into an exact date for your refund.

More as things develop.

Update:

I woke up this morning to find the following message from Wasili, sent on the night of August 30, as promised:

Hi Gary,

I can refund you for the landspeeder on friday the 14th of sept, in the evening (my local time). Just to be sure, please send me your paypaladdress.

Highest regards,

Wasili
