Late to the party - Peter Quill Star Lord Quad Blasters print and paint

Took me a while to get round to making up and painting another of my absolute favourite sci-fi weapons...pair of...Peter Quill's Quad Blasters

Original models by the brilliant @henrycreations

Using a ton of reference pics from promotional display of the props from the time the movie(s) came out and some lovely shots from a Propstore auction I modded several parts from the original STL files for additional (needless) accuracy with an extended top muzzle and lower "stun" attachment for the right hand blaster and rear gold/silver barrel sections totally re-modelled AND top muzzle inner details details modelled by me cos further nerdy pedantry

Additionally I remodelled and restyled the plasma ammo vials with a kinda swirly colour changing light effect.

I didn't take a whole load of pics of the build but there are some obvious stages documented.

Very nice result, these are still on my list to make sometime too, so you're not the latest one ;)

The subtle weathering around the grips really sells it. Can you tell me what paint you used for the gold parts? Or did you paint them silver and tint afterwards?

Well thank you for your kind words! and get on it!! :D it's such an awesome project for painting funs :D

For the gold I did a standard gloss black primer then the chrome/silver and then went back over with this gold paint :-

It did look a touch *too* pale so I ended up mixing it with a few drops of metallic copper for a more orange gold until I was happy with the shade.

great work! though you didn't need to model the extra bits - I'm pretty sure those details never actually appear in the films.

Oh I ALWAYS need to make the unnecessary details. Not only cos I'm a deep nerd but also cos I didn't want to make two duplicate blasters, that'd be boring :D - it was at least included as a functionality in at least one of the hero props so I made mine to match the displayed blasters (also the extended version was in the Propstore auction)

The lower stun extension is visible in one scene at least.

I do have a line through a colleague to the actual prop makers and have extended a question to them as to the story behind the extended muzzles. I'll post here when/if they can remember back to those days :D
