So Cal Prop Party!! PICS START ON PAGE 33!!!!

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

And 18% gratuity? Welcome to Orange County! Behind the Orange Curtain lies a great many strange and expensive things!

<Housewives, silicone, etc.>

Bah, it has NOTHING to do with being in orange county. I'ts actually VERY standard for ANY type of restaurant to charge an included, flat rate gratuity for parties of a certain size. it's pretty much industry standard.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because a large group typically monopolizes the time and attention of a server or two, and there have been way too many times when the person picking up the tab was a cheapskate and didn't leave a tip. Nobody wins. So now it's just enforced.

Oi mates aka RPFers!

I was merely joking about "After Party." I have no idea what happens after D&B. What I meant is that coming in costume may limit you to what you do afterwards (barhopping, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, etc.)

I am not saying that there is a sanctioned or planned event after 4:01pm. Merely stating that if you are fully dressed as Iron Man you may have a hard time getting around.

That is all!

Seriously, instead of spending money to come to California, why not instigate a prop party in YOUR area.

Unless you have all the money you need or have friends out here that actually know you, I just don't think coming out here for a five hour gig is very smart.

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

micdavis, I'd like to come to possibly become friends with some of the board members. While I don't have all the money I'd like, it's rare for me to get chances like this to just get up and go somewhere else. I love travelling, I love flying. Right now, I'm young. I don't have any real responsibilities that would keep me from coming. Yes, I could set up a prop party in my area, and I might do just that later this year. But I'm 19. It's hard for me to make reservations of this type anywhere. I can't put down any money for any deposits. I'm not well-known enough on the board to really get the type of attention for it that would be useful. And I don't know any of the other RPFers in the Florida area, which would be a useful first step (and one that I plan to undertake). In short, it's less practical for me to set up a prop party here in Florida (one that would be 2 hours away from where I live, at that) than it is for me to come to this one.

And as far as an after-party, I wasn't raising a fuss or anything, was just curious. I'm used to not being able to attend things.

Ceric, did you try any of the motels around Disneyland? With all of the conventions and vacation traffic that goes through there, there's got to be one around there that will rent a room to you, especially since you are legally an adult. As long as you have a credit card, you should be able to make a reservation.

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

Drew, I haven't, though I haven't ruled it out yet. The big issue is that I can't rent a car anywhere, so transportation is a bit of an issue. Somewhere close to D&B is a lot better than somewhere near Disney when it comes to getting a cab or something.

I said the same thing a few pages and months back, but he still wants to come...

Honestly, If your dad's position is going to get cut and you dont have a job, maybe it will be a smart thing to save that traveling money because you will never know when your family will need it...

coming out here isnt worth the risk....

Ceric....where in Floriday mate!? I know three Capn Jacks down there that would probably jump onboard a FL Prop Party. Two live in Orlando and one lives in Miami region or St. Pete I think! Another that I don't know as well lives down in Key West.

As he mentioned in his earlier post, he's 19 and doesn't care. Aparently looking at "big picture" type stuff and making rational choices isn't part of his plan.

Cuz you know, when your family is about to be thown out of their house, you can look back in satisfaction knowing that you had a good time spending that five or six hundred bucks it took you to get out to california to make a few friends and gain reputation points on an internet forum. And when ther'es no food on the table, or your college tuition is due, you can think the same thing.

Cuz after all, you're 19. only young once, right? why bother thinking about the future. that's for us old farts who have sold out to the man. am I right?

And aside from all that.

We just aren't that interesting.

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

Good point, man. I lived an hour north of you for like six years. Came to visit you once. :lol

Re: So Cal Prop Party 2011...Let's start talking

I am going to call my contact at D&B this Monday and finalized the deal...hold on to your butts!

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

There may still be hope for me. I haven't learned anything, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just not good either. I still want to be there!

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

You guys win.

I won't be there.

it's not about winning...we are trying to help you out...trust us...we would love the extra company, but you have many obstacles in front of you that need to take priority....

we all been in your situation....well, most of us.....or some of us....

and matt pointed it out perfectly with his tough love....

there will be plenty of prop parties in future....we have one every year...maybe your situation would be better next year...

Another rookie move. Blaming everyone else for your lack of progress. Cool. So now it's not your fault if you can't make it to the party. :rolleyes

Apologies for trying to smack some sense into you dude. I wish you nothing but the best, but you seem to only be digging yourself deeper into a hole. That perplexes me. Don't get me wrong. I'm not the master of prioritization. I screw things up all the time. But it just seems to be in your case it's such a clear cut one. Seems like your time, effort, and finances have a MILLION better places for them to be focused.

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

No, it's about winning.

Woohooo!!!! We won.

Now do you really think THAT'S what this is about?

Live and learn.

Re: So Cal Prop Party!! SET FOR MARCH 6th 2011 **SEE 1st POST**

One of the many great things I love about Micdavis is that he's EXACTLY the same way in real life as he is on the boards. There's no surprises with him, and if you expect him to behave differently just because you're in the same room as him, you're in for a treat. I appreciate his genuineness. Rare thing these days.

And he taught me everything I know about being a crusty old man.

Though I'm sure he didn't teach me everything HE knows!!

I meant it in the sense that you've succeeded in your goal of discouraging me from coming. I had been looking forward to taking a weekend break from classes and coming out to meet a lot of you, using my Christmas money. I really wanted to see not just the people, but also some of the props that were going to be there, as I feel there's a big difference between looking at pictures of something and actually seeing it (or a replica) in person. While I'm still trying to figure out where I said something about my dad potentially losing his job, I pay rent to my parents and have an actual lease stating how much I pay. I make my own car payment, pay for the gas, and pay for the insurance. I'm financially stable and that won't change even if my father does lose his job. So this trip was a way for me to start off my spring break on a better note than just sitting at home for 9 days.

Did I expect any of you to really be any different IRL compared to here? No, why would I? I've learned already that very few people on here put up a front or facade and act differently than they do elsewhere.

I'm honestly expecting that when a D*Con get-together gets planned over the summer or so, when I say I'll be there, I'll end up facing the exact same chorus of "You have better things to do with your time/efforts/money". Even though I've already got my ticket, my carpool people, and my room, and have had money set aside for it since last D*Con when I couldn't attend due to my location.

So, while you have managed to make me feel as though I wouldn't be welcome at the prop party (and correct me if I'm wrong there), please consider in the future that I may not be just another 19-year-old who doesn't know anything about how the real world works. I lived for 10 months entirely on my own and only received money from my parents twice: For my birthday and when I got double-charged a $750 bill from the hospital. I know how the real world works, and that'ts why you see me here asking for someone to split a hotel room with before I buy my plane ticket, instead of afterwards.
