Re: So Cal Prop Party 2011...Let's start talking
I thought about the larger room as well. I would have to see it again to make sure it would work. If I remember it was about twice the size of our last prop party room.
Yeah, that sounds about right. We have done a couple prop parties in there in the past. The weird thing is that like HALF of it is for tables, the other half is the "dining" area, so I'm not really sure how much extra room you get unless you let people set up stuff in the dining part.
The bummer about doing a community room is that you run the risk of the host/organizer/sponsor dropping out at the last minute. I threw a couple parties at the community room at my apartment complex, and that worked out really well also.
In my experience, Brad, the way to do it is this: Take ownership of the thing, and just make it happen. Don't try to run it by committee, and depend on nobody except yourself. If that means you need to fund it yourself and then take collections at the door, do it that way. Trying to get everyone to agree on a date, collect payments, size the room... bleh. Just take ownership, make the decisions, make an announcement and let it happen.
I think if I lived in Socal, I'd be doing this every three or four months. Even if it just turned out to be the usual suspects, it would still be more fun than I knew what to do with.
