Sideshow Hellboy Samaritan - Take 2 (merged)

DAMNIT!

Well, as was mentioned, the shelf could be replaced with something else.
I'm going to try and figure out an option for that as my current Sammy is on the top glass shelf...

I got mine today!! I waited till the last minute and had to be put on the wait list about 3 weeks ago,and i got #36/#850. WooHoo!!

I just got mine. Already started removing that silly silver pant they smeared all over the place. Use on of those sanding spongy blocks and the silver paint comes right off. Just be careful you donut remove the black paint . another benefit is it actually polishes the paint makes it look like bluing.

So, is anyone else planning on stripping all the paint off of this gun and going to darken it with bluing solution to make it look like a real gun? Kind of like what we do for the Metal kits of the Blade Runner Blaster...

I advise against Blueing the metal on this gun. Blueing this kind of metal does not really Blue it. but produces a brownish gray color. Its ok for a Firefly pistol, but would look wrong on a Samaritan.

I was wondering about what kind of metal they used. It seems a lot lighter than the pewter and other pot metal I usually use. Probably a lot cheaper too!:unsure

Probably some mix of aluminum and cheap, lightweight metals, like the stuff Denix uses sometimes.

With regards to the detolf shelving, I actually don't use one of the shelves (I have my RHoD on the bottom so I had to remove the first shelf up).
Could I just double-up the top shelf to support the gun and base?
Is the glass rated at 6 kilos or the weld joints?

Received mine and all of my reactions have been expressed exactly by the members that have posted previously in this thread.

Although the tracer rounds were essentially "free", I think that they really missed the mark and I for one would like to see someone do a run of tracers that do a proper job of diffusing the LED. The base containing the electronics is fine so just a replacement for the upper case/clear bullet would be all that is necessary.

I still havent been charged for my last flexpay payment and no emails regarding delivery. I think I will call them tomorrow.

Im still waiting for mine in the UK!

People say it 'looks great from a foot away and a bit crude up close'.........
If Sideshow gave it a more subtle paint job, then it might photograph badly, and look poor on the shelf ?
Bit of a trade off then maybe ?
Just a thought.

I see Sideshow are offering a last Minute order run if people still want one of the Ltd Editions btw.

Got mine late last week and finally opened it over the weekend. I love it! I actually think the tracer rounds are pretty well done. Maybe could have been a little better, but I'm happy with them. The stand is cool although the little rods that hold the gun seem too loose. And dang is this thing heavy! I had the first one and sold it to buy this one. I'm very pleased. Here are a few pics.

I just don't get why they needed to paint the METAL on a metal gun. Even the worst dull metal Denix uses looks like dark iron when weathered properly. I'm reserving final judgment until I get mine, but it kinda seems like they really failed to deliver on several major selling points of this release.

IMO, they should've skipped doing the gun in metal, just done the grips in wood and done the tracer rounds properly, in metal. It shouldn't have been that difficult. I personally think that real wood does far more for the feel of this type of gun than the weight, and the original polystone version was pretty heavy anyway.

(And regarding the Big Baby, I would much rather have a wood stock on that than the musicbox.)

Fake weathering comes off with a scotch-brite pad. Weather naturally and polish. Looks 100 times better.

On many real guns, the hammer and trigger are made of different metal than the receiver and cylinder and/or the metal is finished differently. Look at a basic Smith and Wesson L-frame or N-frame gun and the hammer is not blued at all and often has a slight case-hardened or raw metal look, same with the trigger. Those might be two parts that can be easily improved. Mine has not arrived yet but maybe this week.
