Sideshow Hellboy Samaritan - Take 2 (merged)

I'd be very surprised if someone didn't do a run of wooden grips for these.

That being said, I know what you mean. I was very disappointed when they changed that.

Honestly, the grips are lovely. I think they're great. I did gussy up the silver bprd badge on them, painted it with adhesive size and silver leaf (about 15 bucks from the art store) and buffed it and then weathered it back with burnt umber, raw umber and raw sienna (the holy trinity of weathering).

As for the screw: turns out that that's where they have a pin, and it drilled out far easier than I thought it would... I then used a countersink bit to open up the holes a little, and then bought a pair of countersunk headed wood screws. They're only like 1/2" deep. They self-tapped right in there just fine. I've removed them twice since, and each time they've replaced back real nice. I think i used a tiny dot of the super thin ca glue to set them so they don't spin. All in all it was FAR easier than I thought.
That's the most mystifying missing detail. So freakin' obvious, and in all actuality, from a manufacturing standpoint, it's EASIER to use a pair of machine screws than to put a pin in and bondo and paint over it.
It boggles the mind it does...

My bank account finally shows that it has been charged!:cool:thumbsup Still no email from Sideshow though!:unsure
I'm probably going to strip the paint off of mine and get some bluing solution to darken it and then buff out the highlights.:love:thumbsup
Then attempt at making a wood grip for it.

Is the BPRD emblem in the grip metal too, or is it part of the resin grip?

Mine should be here Wednesday. Good tips there, Adam! It does suck though to spend the moolah for a finished piece and then have to re-finish it.

No Charge, and no email yet. I was really hoping to have it by November.

I just talked with Sideshow customer service today and they said Samaritans are shipping out in 2 groups, 1 now and the other one closer to the middle or end of november.

Mine came today. Alot bigger box than the first samaritan, but at least the wait is over. Its true, there is not much difference from the first one, other than the weight and the display base(awesome display base). But, Im still happy with it. Still one of my favorite prop.

Came a day early for me. This is the samaritan they should have released in the first place. When I tap on it, I can't tell that it is metal! The tracer rounds are indeed loose. Did everyone's come with extra batteries or are they supposed to go in something else? :lol I'm also a little saddened that they dont include any paperwork/certificate, anything.

It sounds like I'm thumping resin. :lolI did the scratch test and it is indeed metal. The paint kind of flakes off where it is scratched. It also makes a good 'chink' sound when you 'sling' it closed.I'm also glad the grips aren't as shiney as they appeared to be in the previous photos.

Sweet Surprise! It was here, but all they left me was a note. I signed it to get them to leave it tomorrow. I hope to come home tomorrow and find it on the door step.

So this makes up for not getting any emails (almost).

Can anybody give me dimensions on the bullets? (Dia. etc.) I'll be recieving my samaratin in about a week and I'd like to have some real brass cartriges. I wanted to get a jump on making some.

Thanks
Pete

For those not getting emails - what type of email service do you use? I always get my Sideshow emails to my Gmail account.

Check your spam email box. It was a suprise to discover a delivery via UPS coming my way, considering I was on the second chance list. I checked my spam email box and found a bunch of notices from Sideshow. Had to do some fast talking to the wife about this one...usually I'm prepared.

Tracer rounds are a bit of a let down. They are lit by what looks to be a 3mm water clear green led. Mine all tend to back light the painted crimp ring that forms the bottom of the clear bullet tip because the brass paint didn't quite cover. The light from the led also doesn't diffuse very well and tends to "collect" at the bullet tip. Need a little work to tweak them but all in all not too shabby for a freebie "exclusive."

Overall the Samaritan II is cold to the touch and certainly felt like metal to my hands. It makes a satisfying "click" when you close the gun. Trigger and hammer are both spring loaded however they are not connected to one another (ie. pulling the trigger won't work the hammer). The "wooden" grip quite frankly looks and feels like shiny plastic.

The base is beautiful and are all numbered on the bottom (087/850 here). My only gripe would be the back of the BPRD disc is felt covered and has some makeshift hanger holes to attach it to the wall. It looks rather tacked on because it seems pretty obvious that the disc was designed to be displayed in the base.

I got mine. Overall great piece but crappy weathering. Love the display and bullets.

If anyone makes wooden grips I am interested.
