Sideshow Hellboy Samaritan - Take 2 (merged)

Finally, after a week of waiting, they finally responded to my email inquiry. My final flexpay payment is going to hit on Nov. 14th.

And I also got an email saying that the Sideshow Indy (https://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=3905) is due to start shipping in the next 2 weeks as well. My credit card is going to be very sad for a while :cry.

If you're not afraid of modifying the piece a bit, take some sandpaper and sand the tips of the LEDs flat (do a little at a time and test along the way). The flat tips will give better, wider, softer diffusion than the dome tips. Then get some brass paint and fix the "crimp" area. And if you're really daring, try giving the grips a coat of semi-gloss/satin clear to kill off some of that shine.

They left me a second piece of paper even though I signed the first one. This is in accordance with their instructions: "I authorize UPS to leave... SIgnature_____"

I am bummed. I mean I am really let down. I waited all day at work to run home and play with my gun. Was I going to pull the trigger? Oh you bet I would. You know I would too, because you would do the exact same thing. Did I even get my finger on the trigger? No. I didn't even get my hands around the barrel.

Yes, this is sad, sad, day in the Dork Forrest

Sorry to hear that, but I tried the slip signature thing before with a sideshow item a year ago... missed the first delivery and signed the slip. they didnt leave it the second time, and I got pissed. I called up and asked FedEx why they didnt leave it even though I signed for them to "leave at doorstep", but they said they needed someone to sign in person, and I went into a huge angry rant talking about why they would have that signature area if it they wouldn't follow it. She just said sorry.

I basically had to wait until the weekend to go to the FexEx shipment facility to pick my package up. It wasn't the best week for me.

I just got mine too, and I'm pretty impressed in general. I didn't think it would be so HUGE... I can barely get a grip on the thing and pull the trigger--and forget about holding it in one hand and pointing it at someone :lol

I never saw/handled the original version firsthand, but I do like the look of this Sammy. The weathering clearly looks painted on if you're looking close at it, but from a foot or more away and it looks good. I also wasn't a fan of the base when the piece was unveiled, but i really do like it in person--Looks great next to my RHOD. The grips look pretty good too. They definitely would have looked better if they were wood (it's actually right by my MR Han Elite blaster and the wooden han blaster grips definitely look more natural and classier), but they look enough like wood that it doesn't bother me all that much.

The big annoyance for me is that it looks like one of my tracer bullets isn't as bright as the other three... the LED is more of a dull green than a bright blinding green like the others. I dont have my camera on me right now, but I'll get a pic for you guys tomorrow. (The last few months haven't been great prop months for me... there always seems to be an issue with something I buy :()

But overall, I love it. Definitely worth the price imo, even with its flaws.

Love the pics! Can't wait for mine. Should have it no later than tomorrow depending if I catch the UPS guy or not.

I too received my Samaritan II yesterday. Nice big box for shipping. Overall I am impressed with the piece, but the fit and finish certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

As odd as it might sound I think what I was most impresed and pleased with was the base. I really like the design and mine at least is actually very well painted. I agree that the hooks could really use gluing in, but I've got to say I love that base.

The Samaritan itself is a great piece.... with a really bad paintjob. It's no wonder some weren't sure at first if it was metal. It looks like regardless of the material used stuff all gets the same crap paintjob at the factory. I use the same phony hard edge line weathering techniques when painting the little 28mm figures. Looks great on those when viewed at arms length on the table. Not so great on a piece of this size. I'm curious as to the level of effort in stripping the piece and repainting it. IMHO the handle is the best painted piece on the Samaritan. Sure they aren't the wood handles we were initially promised but I don't think they look to shabby at all. The medallions could maybe use a touch up.

The metal bullets are pretty dreadful. They are one piece, polished on top and painted the fake brassy gold color on the bottom. Mine aren't perfectly true in every aspect either. They are a little wonky and the stamp in the bottom isn't even perfectly clean. They also either seem to small for the chamber, or the chamber is a little too large. They not only slide up and down, but they also have play to the sides towards the rear. I would have liked a lot better fit to the chamber(even for a fictional prop gun). Heck I'd love to see someone undertake a project to make better Samaritan rounds. An actual two piece design with maybe an aluminum round and an actual brass jacket.

I like the design of the tracer rounds better. They seem ever so slightly larger and mine are much more regular than the metal rounds. They have a better fit into the chamber and they only slide up an down and there is no play to the sides like seen with the metal rounds. The LED definitely needs some difussion because as is it creates a hotspot at the tip as others have noted. They are two piece design with the innards and bottom being a fricton fit to the tip and casing. The fit on mine is pretty good actually. They aren't loose. Though if they do loosen up it seems like some tape on the inside of the casing should help snug the fit back up. I know some aren't pleased with these because they don't meet expectations, but I can't really complain about these as a freebie. And like I said, in my case they are a much better fit and more regular than the standard metal rounds.

I don't have mine in hand yet but perhaps a sleeve can be worked into the chambers to provide a tighter fit for the shells...

Kudos to sideshow. It's beautiful, and a nice toy. They delivered.

Hmm... I wonder if the glass shelves in an Ikea Detolf will be able to handle the weight of this.

I'd be nervous a hell putting this in a detolf. BTW, don't try to unscrew any of the screws! I was hoping the grip could be removed, but now I'm thinking that it cannot.

I still want to remove the grip!:unsure
Oh well, I was wanting to make a wooden one anyways, so if it gets damaged, it gets damaged...:rolleyes
Plus, it will increase in value with the wooden grip!:love:thumbsup
I'll need to make the recessed emblem in metal too.

I've got my old Samaritan in a Detolf, as well as a few other heavy props, but this is probably a lot heavier. I think Ikea has weight limits listed somewhere.... lemme go check a little later.

I'm planning on getting a Detolf one of these days, and it would be a shame to have this on the bottom shelf... I could always put it on the top of the case, then I really wouldn't need to buy a Detolf...

What a predicament... That weight limit info would definitely be helpful ^_^
