Not directed at you, but at sabers in-general... I've fought in the SCA and in fencing classes, and having a big box or other obstruction on the hilt would be a big PITA and affect your grip very badly in a real sword fight. I know, it's "canon," but I can't believe Bob Anderson let them do that! haha

Same! I've sparred many SCA friends, taken HEMA training, multiple martial arts, and also used to perform fight choreography as well as teach. The hilt you asked about I very specifically designed for single or two handed fighting grips where the control box actually sits in the gap between the end of my fingers and my palm. I had to put my phone on the edge of my desk and take the picture on time delay to get the shot but here is one of four different two handed positions that lend themselves to where the box and grip sleeve sit.

I view activation boxes as “old technology“ that we’ve now found better ways to do it. Think Mace and Rey’s sabers…

Decided to make another “Derelict” style saber. This one is about 2” shorter and feels better I think overall than the last one. It has more weathering and a blackened end with a vintage Graflex top. Setup with a white blade and Greyscale’s “ Mercinary” sound font ( among many others but this saber screams merc so it’s primary on that one).

Alrighty! Here’s another! This one is an ESB graflex ( still waiting on a few things )..I had another spare empty graflex top. This one didn’t have any knobs or glass eye so these are replica knobs. Also the clamp is replica but with a vintage lever ( thanks Filandrius ). I still need to replace the incorrect screws but I decided this one needed weight and a metal chassis. I started designing and engineering a chassis made from all TCSS parts, clock parts, and some delrin . I didn’t realize that building this without carefully planned 3d printed parts would be difficult lol. I knew I wanted a 18650 for run-time. After assembling and disassembling this chassis about 1746382826482935 times… and watching the crystal chamber getting short and shorter , I finally got it all to fit.

The only thing that didn’t fit was a recharge port. However, after some research, I ran a secondary negative line to the blade detect pin on the NPXL pcb. Now I can charge the battery through the blade end.

Thanks! These are all prefab parts I pick up from one of the VHC suppliers (not sure if I'm allowed to name them or not due to anti-shilling rules) but then I go nuts in my little machine shop customizing them. In the case of this one I modified the grip sleeve and control shroud, stripped black finish from sections of the front two parts, and krylon coated the knurling in a nice gunmetal color to make it pop more.

Yeah that does look cool! Is that aluminum, that part with the cutouts? I thought about doing something like that because years ago when everyone was using the chrome sink tubes, I did cut outs and it didn't hold its shape very well.

I designed this for an on-going lightsaber design hosted by TXQ Saber. Feature three hilts that would compliment each other and could be formed to three different staff mode.
