I did a design with cross guards like a sword, based off of an image from the Jango Fett Open Seasons comics back in the early 2000’s. I’ve not seen anyone else do a cross guard, and yours is very well done!

That oval opening probably had a clear cover at one point. It reminds me of a pepper grinder or something:
