SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Hi all

Thanks for all the positive repsonses we've had from SDCC....

...These will be distributed in the US - details are being finalised at the moment. This will help keep the price competative as you won't have to ship from the UK. At the moment we're playing safe and saying the price will be 'under' $200. By how much we don't know but obviously we'll get it as low as we can.
hopefully that quote remains true.

One can hope all you want, but be real for a minute. That post is 13 days away from being ONE YEAR OLD from 7-27-2008. That was from when the were going to be mass produced in China and we now know it is not going to be.
We all know things change in a year and one can hold out for hope or you can be smart and realistic. It is going to be way more than $200 US Dollars due the the limited production run.
I hate it just like everyone else here but the facts are the facts. We will wait on pricing, but I will bet they will be a lot more than we heard last year. I am betting nearly double what we heard in the past. We will see if I am right.
If it is more that $200 though, then I am out as I said in my above post.

Oh good golly gosh... Just got the email! Out tomorrow - £219 PLUS VAT! that's more than £250 with VAT - or ~$406.82! I'm not sure that's fair. Not even with sound. Yes - I know the real prop wouldn't have - but that's not good.

I think it is Absolutely unfair also the way they taunt you with "This is your only chance..." When they are limiting it to only 500 people - or less if they don't limit 1 for each household! That means that it's likely that people who cant find hundreds of dollars by tomorrow, or within a week or two at least, have to miss out completely! Yes - I know, manufacturing limitations and so on, But that is quite a poor show. The richer people get the goods, and the poorer have to go without. They seem to forget - while they act like you have a sporting chance and taunt you to buy one, that some people simply can't afford that much for something that boils down to being "a fancy flash light (Or, 'torch')" as NakedMoleRat said.

I was seriously considering buying one of these - I love the sonic screwdriver. But the extremely high price coupled with the 500 pieces limitation - I fear that I simply can't.

Not very pleased.

219 British pounds = 356.3787 U.S. dollars

Ahh - But will the VAT be added on to the price for America before the conversion? It's £219 without VAT - and with VAT - It's £252 (approx) so ~$406.82!

Not sure if they add in VAT first to sell to the American market or not... I thought they'd add VAT to sell to the resellers in America (EFX) Don't know how that works...

Yup, cheaper to go to the local Home Depot and pick up crackle paint, clear plastic rod and some pipe with a stop by the machinists to shape it...

I was very hopeful MFX would provide us with an affordable and durable accurate replica. Well, it's accurate at least.

Yeah, I just got the email too. It's so pretty but it's not over $400 pretty. Had their circumstances allowed them to keep their promise of accurate and cheap but durable we all would have been happy but life is more cruel than we would like.

Read and responded to with style and aplumb. ;)

Replied here with flair and aprune.
