SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

You want to know what sucks the most about all this?

Not only is MFX limiting them to only 500 pieces, but the unlicensed recreation from the Celestial Toystore still isn't available, either... and if you look at that website, it says it's limited to 500 as well! Then, to top it all off, he never has shown any pictures of it, even though they were due ages ago... and the page also says it's SOLD OUT, even though I don't believe it ever went on sale. :confused

So, those of us that want a proper replica of the new series Sonic Screwdriver are well and truly SCREWED. Way to go, MFX! Thanks for leaving TONS of fans worldwide out in the cold! :rolleyes

Neill said a while back they they were going to make each one themselves. So, yea, five hundred are a lot to put out themselves. We've seen the prototypes and they are awesome! The really big problem is, is that those with enough cash will grab five and scalp four on eBay!
I hope that MFX will limit it to no more than two per customer.

Ah well. There goes the nice dream of owning one of these.

That pretty much sums up how I feel. It will probably be the best ever made, of that I have no doubt. But it is a prop replica, and to my wife it would be an expensive "toy" even though she knows I have wanted one since 2005 and I doubt there will be any way I can justify the cost that it is going to run being a very limited production run with the economy, the high unemployment (I fall into that category), a new baby, and money being tight as it is. That kind of money buys a lot of diapers and formula.
The dream of owning one just did a swirly down the crapper. I am pretty upset by this news to say the least.

Any chance MFX will do a favor for the long time supporters of the project here on RPF and set up a reserve system or take downpayments or something? I would hate to miss this and end up seeing sellers with 10 for sale on eBay at inflated prices.

Depending on how much they are, I would like to get an extra one....to sell on eBay for inflated prices! :lol

Seriously, I just want one to put in my little pocket, carry around with me everywhere for the first four months and keep on the night table for the next five, then FINALLY put it on the display shelf!

Except for the fact that living in the US means, 200 pounds is 400 dollars and THEN we talk shipping!

Crap. now I'm sad too.......

you'll be happy to know that according to google the current exchange rate for 200 pounds is 321.2 dollars which feels a lot better then 400.

When I really sit down and think about it. It really is nothing more than a fancy flash light (Or, 'torch' to my UK friends). A really, really cool fancy flash light, but a flash light non the less. So, if it's going to be more than $200.00 US, I'll take a pass. In the grand scheme of things, as cool as it would be to have one, I just can't justify so much money for one.

I think it'll be more than $200 and worth it for those wanting to invest :thumbsup My MFX cyberman head is the pride of my collection, I would never part with it, yeah it cost me but no one forced me to buy it, its whether you want something 'truly' authentic

:cry son of a, man I am going to start rocking in fetal position now,

where did the price of 200 pounds come from? I don't see anything on their website in regards to that.

I believe the oirignal hope Neil posted was under 100 pounds. With them being a limited in-house run we can kiss that one goodbye on toast.

It was actually around $100 and they would be outsourced en masse. When they switch to in-house, that's when the price explodes.

Well I've been thinking about it. We could go with the doom and gloom of a way over priced prop, OR we could trust that Neill really wants us to fulfill our prop fantasy to have one of these. For all we know, he is going to do them just above cost to get them to us, which could be why its such a limited number.

That thought takes me to my happy place. I'm choosing to stay here, believing this, until proven otherwise!
