SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Well, one of you guys who is able to pick one up should definitely post pictures, videos, and measurements here when you get it. That way we can all be amazed by how great it looks and those of us who are still interested in making our own will finally have the exact measurements to do so.

with VAT price, say 250 GBP = ...$512.40 Australian!!!

and that is without postage, which I imagine is another 30 GBP at least. So closer to $550-$600 bucks. Out of my price range. Back to Character Options for me.

Also, what if the light burns out? Is it replaceable?

They tried multiple times to outsource and it all tanked which is why they're doing them in house. Doing business with China right now is not like it was 3 years ago.

But this is Doctor Who, we can just go back three years. :p

I really wanted one of these. :(

At least I already have a Charecter Options Screen Accurate version. xD

This thing is almost the same exact price of the Star Trek Assault Phaser? That doesn't make any sense. It doesn't even make noise*!

*Not a downside

Neither of Character Options toys are accurate at all. If you are reffering the the rumour about using the toy on set, thats just a rumour and was unfounded, sorry.

50 pounds to ship? Doubt that! But you cannot fault them for that.

As for the lightsabers that light up....the MR/Hasbro FX sabers or the Parks versions are neither high quality replicas and some are not licensed. This is a licenced replica that is functional.

I saw one Anakin AOTC SE for for what? 600 US? And how much do the idealised props from MR go for on the market? Especially the rarer ones?

These sonics are the most accurate you can get as of right now, and at least they are coming out. After 5 years of researching and looking there is finally one here. I was quoted at various machine shops, 10,000, 5,000 and more around that mark...for 1!

Personally, I'd rather pay the price, knowing it will be made outside of China, considering the amount of QC issues I've had over the years with various products made there.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're all lousy, there are some excellent products from the collectables market producted there - just not of our genre for some reason...

Bets on when the first pre-sell on Ebay with even more ridiculous price goes up :rolleyes

Site seems to have melted down.

I think its a fair price and I completely buy the fact that the MFX guys will take a hammering on their profit margins, Neill and the people at MFX actually care about putting out quality authentic replicas, not something that is simply idealised and mass produced for as little cost as possible, it is the most accurate replica that will ever be made available, if its your dream to own such a prop then do it. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that once that Sonic arrives at your place and you open it up, I'm betting the price will be the last thing on your mind, thats how I felt when I got my Cyberman helmet, its so rare to have the chance to own these pieces that come from original manufacturers, as Dr Who fans we should count ourselves very lucky indeed, I know I do :thumbsup
