DR Who-Sonic Design Competition (winners announced)

Hi Muldwych,
"Also if anyone wants to have a go at building mine let me know!"

I had a look at your design, I might be able to do something, although it will not be until the new year, and would run in parallel with my own next project. yep! already thinking about it and have some truly ridiculous ideas.

Hey Guys I was late to this but do you think I would have had a chance in this?

Here is the Final Draft Picture of it:

Anyone want to machine one?

Also the fins are to be silver but it didn't look good in the design.
And Tube is clear but it didn't match background.

So... With no offense to the winners do you think I could have had a chance at 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

P.S Can anyone get a machined prototype? If so, I will send dimensions and Design work.

OK I am just a new member so I missed all the fun but it was great to read thru this knowing when I got to the end I would find out the winners :)

Great designs all around ! The top three are awesome but I bet it was a really really tough judging job.

Can't wait till another competition like this :)

Next year’s comp will see some rules and update changes, along with prizes that will be offered for the 2013 comp, 2nd and 3rd place prizes have been sent out, the 1st place winner design is still on the drawing board at this time, and in the coming weeks I will have it complete and will start prototyping parts from the workshop drawings.

Next year will see prizes from other prop builders that I will commission to make for the sonic competition, as I think there are better prop builders on the forum with more interesting props that would make excellent prizes.

The judging will be undertaken by the same expert artisans with the winner of the previous year as one of the three judges.

Ages ago I was interested to see the judges top 3 (or was it origanally 5) but revisiting this site I fear it may now be dead, but if anyone is reading, here are my top 3 & interestingly, since the gap of looking at them originally, my favourites havent changed.

3rd place Organic Mechanic. - A little steampunk with a dash of retro. It looks like it could be made out of Bakerlite & im a sucker for that. As soon as I saw it I thought 'yeah, I can really see McGanns Dr using this'. Its a good link between 8th & 9th Dr Version.

2nd Place. Jedibugs. - As soon as I saw this I thought... 1). I like it & wish I'd thought of that, 2).I really like the engraving on this, its looks a s though it could be Gallifreyian. 3) blast, he's beaten me to a placing!
Looking at this again now I think it would compliment the new version of the TARDIS interior.

1st Force Commander. - This is SO original & always my favourite all the way, nothing came close IMO. RTD mentioned, while he was showrunner, that the TARDIS was grown not built. I can see this Sonic not looking out of place with his vision. I have to say, in all honesty I was really surprised that this did not make top 3 as this is quite unlike anything else. A totally unique concept & I wonder if it had been computer illustrated (if you see what I mean) it may have gained a higher placing. I hope someon has a go at realising it. Well done Force Commander.

Anyone else gonna add comment? I hope so as this was a great competition. How about a design a TARDIS Key Comp sometime soon?

Not a bad idea at all! :)

The problem with judges coming out with their personal choices is:

A) They're very busy folks!

B) They run the risk of being judges on their picks. In order to be impartial they have to be able to pick without that fear.

See What you mean about the judges, was mainly thinking of others who entered the competion, but again, dont want to start a sonic war ;)

Thank you very much! I did make one of these on my 3D printer. I decided it should be a little larger than specs, but have yet to remake it with that in mind.
