ROTJ CUT SCENE on Star Wars Blu-Ray for next year....

If they do not show R2 being given the saber by Luke, does that still ruin the punch for you, Mic? As to the Luke Jedi thing, he calls himself a Jedi Knight in his message to Jabba. Yes, according to Yoda, he is not a Jedi until he confronts Vader, but he still feels he is a Jedi.

I just hope this Blueray set has every existing cut scene from the entire saga. Even the ones mentioned in the cut scene article from back in 96 or 97 issue of SW insider.

Me too.

Though I do get where Mic is comming from. And I do understand why some scenes are removed.

I just love the whole Luke looking up with his macros and thinking he sees a battle then going to toshe station to tell his friends. I love the way they pick on him and think that adds to where/who he was and makes where he ends up that much better. This ROTJ scene in particular. He isn't a lil brat farmboy any more. He BELIEVES he is the last Jedi and is going in with a purpose!

I don't feel that it detracts from the coolness of R2 launching the saber to him and wish the scene showed him hiding it in R2.

I think mostly that after meticulously studying every frame of the OT I just want to see more. Not new stuff mind you... just more from that magical time.

That is all. :)

I'm with you. I 'd love it if they gave you the choice to watch it edited into the film or not. Kinda like the way the new Star Trek TOS special edition BluRay were handled. You can watch it or not.

I'd love to finally see the Biggs Scenes all cleaned up and the HAWT Koo Stark snubbing Luke. I'd love to see the 3po Wampa sticker scene. i'd love to see all that stuff put into the movie.

A couple things that caught my attention is that his mental status seems alot more darker than then rest of the film where he just acts like a mature Luke Skywalker and not some bad-ass hell bent on revenge in this "new" scene.

C-3po appears to be frantically looking for something but you don't hear any panicked dialog from him.

Also...do the doors opening and closing sound right, or do they sound a little more high-pitched?

Could be because it was a recording of a recording, but they sound different to me.

.

Awesome! Too bad that wasn't in the movie! I just hope this isn't a half*ssed version where all the cut scenes that we KNOW are around aren't included.

According to Slashfilm,

The scene has completed visual effects and music because it was cut right before the final edit of the film was made during post production.

Also, the blu-ray version will... of course... be the special editions... :rolleyes

Lucas said that the original trilogy films included on the Blu-Ray release will be the remastered special editions. He explained:

“Releasing the originals is kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good. You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally. It’s a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.”

It's a very, very, expensive process to do it and I only have a few billion dollars laying around. It's not like I'm made of money.

The SE's were an upgrade? That's news to me.

No more money from me Mr. Lucas.

You gotta think they're doing something different with them for BR. They're taking over a year to put them out and they've likely already got 1080p masters of the PT and SE's since they're running on cable already (althought at 720p and 1080i).

I'd like to have both, too, but i know he's too stubborn to do it. You'd think the vast majority of digital transfer was done with the SE's. Take the new stuff out, clean up a couple old shots and stitch it back together.

In all seriousness, this quote (sadly) sustains my shred of hope for a future edition of the originals... At least he didn't brush aside the originals and say, "They're not the real movie anymore.".

I think adding this scene would change a lot of the tone and first impression of the movie right from the beginning.

Remember, Vaders meditation chamber is on his Superstar Destroyer, so instead of the current ROTJ opening you pan down from the crawl to his ship and cut to this scene.

Next we would cut to Luke building the Saber, because he has to give it to R2 before sending them off to Jabbas palace.

THEN we would cut to Vaders Destroyer reaching the DS2, the shuttle taking him aboard, and then cut to the droids walking up to Jabbas.

Effectively this would be the VERY FIRST 2 scenes in the movie with a pan down from the crawl to the Executor.

Ever see Adywan's cut of ANH?

Yup, and I stand by my statement. Fan edits of the original trilogy are right up there with pimping out your wife. The original trilogy is sacred, and doesn't need any "fixing." They're a part of film history, acknowledged classics, and beloved the world 'round. You don't want to "fan edit" Seven Samurai or Casablanca, do you?

Lucas's comment about the price of digitizing the originals is good though--he used to claim they were totally destroyed to make the SE. At least his comment lets us know they originals are possible. Somewhere. Maybe.

See, if the SE was just cleaning up matte lines, etc, like the Blade Runner Final Cut, I'd embrace it. Blade Runner is one of my favorite films, and I felt NO fear about a Final Cut messing it up. In fact, it improved it. And when I bought the Final Cut, I got the theatrical, the 92 d.c. and the Final Cut in one nice package. But the SE of Star Wars didn't just pretty up the image...it took a big steaming dump on a cinema classic. It basically took the Last Supper and drew t!ts on Peter.

I would love a really nice transfer of the OOT on DVD, but I don't have the know how. Is originaltrilogy.com still up? About ten years ago, I used to be there all the time. I should have bought something then.

EDIT: yes it is. Good.
