ROTJ CUT SCENE on Star Wars Blu-Ray for next year....

I saw a transcript of the "Main event" at CV and apparently it was filmed years ago and Hamill says he vaguely remembered shooting it and he was the one to introduce the clip with George there.

The one thing I could say to support this being legit old style is that you'd think if it were NEWLY shot they'd let the green glow of the saber illuminate Luke's face as they did in the prequels.

The footage looks more dated and I think it's really the old original stuff...

Here's the Live coverage log that was on newsarama:
http://www.newsarama.com/film/star-wars-celebration-v-george-lucas-100814.html

And the excerpt:
12:02
There's some really good materials being included in there. Some of it is one scene, more deleted scenes you haven't ever seen yet.
12:03
Mark Hamill comes out to a HUGE pop from the crowd.
12:03
Mark "Take a deep breath, and sit down, you're cutting into George time!"
12:03
Mark: I just saw this clip for the first time on a golf cart on a computer.
12:04
This is my natural entrance as a Jedi.
12:04
When they told me, I said "I vaguely remember this" and when they showed me I really remembered it. It's very short, but it's very special.
12:04
For all you ultra-passionate fans, it's special for you because let's face it you're like family.
12:05
This is my original entrance into the film Return of the Jedi.
12:05
Darth Vader walks down a hall, and into a chamber, meditating, reaching out to Luke telepathically.
12:05
Luke is shown in robes, MAKING HIS Lightsaber.
12:06
He turns it on, glowing green, nods, and turns it off.
12:06
Wow. Very cool.

I hope it's not edited into the film.

It will lessen the impact of R2 shooting the lightsaber and Luke igniting it for the first time on screen.

...and quite frequently people "who were there" have no recollection of some events, and make up ones that didn't happen at all.

It looks to be newly filmed footage....George Lucas has the technology to make film look older than what it appears to be...

In the star wars series, I dont remember at any point luke having his face covered....but why in this particular scene cover it? I dont believe it was mark hammil...Didnt he go on camera saying he never filmed this particular scene?

Are you kidding me?? You don't see Lukes face at all in the first few scenes he's in during ROTJ.

That's probably why they left it out was the excitement of when R2 cast out the saber to Luke and when he ignited it for the first time as a green saber that was just awesome. I would leave it the way it is too, but I WOULD LOVE to see a high quality archive on the BluRay of these cut scenes to enjoy. It's something we've all been wanting to see for years.

Darn i forgot...You are right...I dont watch ROTJ that much..compared to the rest of the series..I watched it the least...Empire strikes back was amazing and I seen that dozens of times more than the other two...

I disagree... I think this has much more impact...It shows Luke being able to block out Vaders temptation and shows that he is very focused on saving his friends.. I hope it's added in.

Not all of us. I could care less about any added footage, old scenes, new scenes.

Enough already.

I like them the way they were released, anything else is jarring during the viewing because it doesn't belong.

Unless it is a significant re-edit like the Abyss or Daredevil, just forget about it.

Is it possible that its a CGI face over a newly shot scene? Didnt a few years back Lucas paid Mark, Carrie, and Harrison to be laser scanned?

I never noticed R2 across from Luke while watching the video, only noticed him with the screen cap posted above. I was wondering where he was.

I wonder how much cleaner/better this scene really looks since the video is filmed off of a screen.

I agree completely!

Although I love seeing these deleted scenes, I don't want to see them in the actual films themselves.

Exactly. I pray they don't stick it in the film. Luke popping open the saber on the skiff...oh my god, it's green! That was a huge moment for me in the film when I was little. Showing the green blade in the cave robs it of the surprise.

I can't see that it matters when you find out it's green. Okay, so he's got a different colored saber. Cool, but never cared. But when Vader later hits him with 'I see you've constructed a new lightsaber', doesn't the subtext become 'Yeah, and while I was blocking your sorry ass out, Voldemort, er Vader, er Dad'?

I don't see it that way mic, I think something like this scene was lacking from Jedi and would only strengthen it if inserted. Vader and Luke interactions are the strongest material in Jedi, and arguably the most potent of the saga - and this scene certainly fits in well. It's a great tonal bridge between Luke/Vader and the profound events of the previous movie also.

I don't think it lessons the impact of the original first sabre ignition either, seriously, it's wasted in the Jabba scene as an intro. In this new scene it's much better placed, indicating he means business, he's out to kill Vader.

Yeah, it's frightening how easy the brain is duped. The scene of Vader getting into the lift, I wonder if that's after the cut scene of Vader Force chocking the guards before seeing the Emperor. And I wouldn't be surprised if Hamill's face has been mapped onto a double, it's so dark and hidden they could certainly get away with it.

I doubt any new scenes would be added, even for a Blu-ray release.

Probably just on the Special Features part of the disk or part of a documentary.

No I could. As little as I care, I could still care less. I am not at the end of the amount less I could care.
