Rogue One - Jyn Erso BlasTech A180 Blaster Pistol

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Here's some shots of the blaster with the barrel and stock attachments (from this review of the Elite Series Sergeant Jyn Erso figure):

And some shots from the figure's page on at DisneyStore.com:

I also took some pictures of the blaster that comes with the Jakks Pacific Big-Figs Jyn Erso at Force Friday:

And the 3.75″ The Black Series Sergeant Jyn Erso figure comes shows it with a longer barrel (it's pretty cool that they made the attachments detachable from the blaster):

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

After this last set of images, (the bust) I think I have put together something very close. I want an opinion from the others, if I made a casting of the front barrel cover, would it fit all the WE Po8 Guns? I used the Dennix as my model. Obviously I may have to adjust things, and I have yet to put the allen head screws in, but I did my size renders based on the shots of her running in the trailer. Comments and critiques welcome.

I feel like the holes in the shroud need to be slightly smaller, but holy cow, that looks great!!

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Thank you all for the input, it has helped. I think for the moment I'm pretty confident in this version. But Dann might be right. I'll try to make the holes smaller. At any rate I'm making a mold of the barrel at least. I need to get a more accurate back for my luger, then I'm molding the gun too. I have a friend mocking up a holster too. So expect a run thread soon.

I also think the very end of the barrel shroud could use a few adjustments. The very last section at the tip should be a smaller diameter and shouldn't protrude so far.

Take a look at this photo. It also shows the smaller holes.

Damn, there's a lot to change. What's this from, the poster?

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

I don't know that I would make changes based on an "illustration poster." Just like a toy, it's still a secondary source. In either case you have licensees that some times have to do the best they can with the info they're given. You'd think the licensor would be generous with their licensees when it comes to reference, but it's surprising how often they're not. Point is, what you already have could be just as good, in a sense, as what's in any secondary source. If the illustration helps you make sense of some detail you see in a PRIMARY source image, then I think that puts you in a better position. But without solid primary source backing, I don't think I would take the illustration poster image as scripture. Just my two cents.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

I added the two machine screws to the left side of the weapon on the trigger side plate to my design. This is in addition to the two machine screws along the back rail. I have decided to include them as there are two sources for their existence; the screws appears in the Jyn Erso in front of the sky-hung Death star poster (blue sky behind the weapon) and also in the "group of rebels" illustration (pants behind the weapon).

EDIT: They also appear in the cover illustration of the upcoming "visual guide" which was leaked early on and on one of the illustrations of one of the toy packaging. Once you start looking for the detail it can be found.

Was there supposed to be a photo attached here? If so, I'm not seeing it. Would love to see some updated photos! Keep up the great work!

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

All of the photos I referenced have been posted in this thread. I was just too lazy to add the IDs. I often wish RPF would provide a master album to put images for each thread so unique images could be posted once, then easily reviewed, and referenced by all posts. (Now I hope someone will point out to me what a newb I am, that the feature already exists, and everybody uses it but me.) It takes time to run through these threads to reconnect the dots and I even maintain my own separate notes as I work through the details so I can go back and double check them when something new goes up. That is what I did with the side screw detail.

Here are the links inside rpf. I do not believe what I call the gang poster has been posted in this thread, only the closeup. I believe I have the photo and will post it if I find it. It was used as a cover on an A4 notebook product, but I know there is another poster version as well.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Here is the "rebel gang" illustration. The same image has been shown on-line as a "leaked" poster and also as the cover of a notebook so I put a little more credibility to the details than a random image.

I do find it interesting however, that the rail under the barrel and the wide ring that wraps over the middle of the barrel are silver(ish) in this illustration, whereas in all actual photos or screen caps of the physical prop, they are black.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

All of the toys I have seen also have the rail and ring as [EDIT silver not] black. I believe that is just for ease and reduced cost of manufacturing the toy. One speculation about the artist's choice of using only silver in the illustration is because it is against a dark background and with black some details might have been lost. There are multiple photos of these parts as black so I believe that is a safe assumption. I do still wish we had better photos and perhaps will soon if the rumors about the final Rogue One trailer being released in the next week are true.
