Robocop: The Original for Pepakura **8/29 1st post update, foam glove**

Sort of random question because I'm thinking of doing this. Do you know if anyone has ever made a Robocop suit with an animated thigh holster?

I modeled the free panel and hinge system, but it was not a practical addition to the pep thread because of the components. The entire assembly is also inset so deeply, it would be difficult to make it practical on a costume suit. It'd be great to see a freehand attempt though!

I'll probably tinker with the idea some more, and if I do I'll be sure to post about it :)

Hey Guys,
Been kinda busy and quite frankly missed my September deadline for the suit. But I have continued to build the suit. Pics below...
Started with a scale 11 for the helmet which was quite big for me and had initial problems with the dome part. View attachment 244250 GEDC2077.JPGGEDC2085.JPG
I thought of modelling the dome by way of a kettle but that looked good from the side
but kinda like robo moe from the front (LOL!)

Anyway started all over again with a scale 10 and this time, together with the help of a friend, we designed a 3 piece helmet that attaches together.GEDC2255.JPGGEDC2252.JPGGEDC2253.JPG
It also has a hinge that allows the upper part to be tilted up to reveal the face (although I may not be using that feature when I wear it-- too ugly :lol)

We also made an etched OCP 001 on the side of the helmet.

And here's the rough chest part (with the back turned)

I'll probably tinker with the idea some more, and if I do I'll be sure to post about it :)

Laelee could I have the pep files (or unfolded foam files if you have) of the panel and hinge system? It might save the trouble of having to cut up the finished thigh armor fro the holster mechanism. TheBlackPhantom am also working on a working thigh holster, I basically based it on the way Iron Man motorized helmets used servos. Nothing final yet but will post progress-- I am serious about an opening holster for the costume.
Can someone help me scale to 5'1" - 5'2" person? Thanks
Phunkymunky I am 5'7" (although my daughters say I'm really 5'6 1/2") and Asian build (Filipino). I used a scale 10 for the helmet and 450 for the body. If you're kinda stocky or wide at shoulders the 450 will work well even at 5'1" i think. If your thin or medium build you might try 430 or 420 scale but try to experiment with scrap cartons for cutting and building first to see if it fits so as not to waste foam (I know I wasted a lot of foam) :D I think it may be challenging to do the thighs as they are really modeled around a tall person but I'll let you know when I get there.
Hey there,
I made the gloves as a prototype to help with sizing/scaling, so I never did a foam unfold. Having said that, give me about 10 minutes or so, I'll unfold one.
Laelee thanks for the foam gloves!

***UPDATED***

Glove foam template added to the first post. Finally added the skull reveal and face pep to the first post as well.

The builds I've seen were almost all for people over 6' tall. Having said that, I would scale the chest at 460 for your height. That is kind of a stand-alone piece; once you have a nice fit on that then you can figure out your lower torso scale.
As a side not, I modeled the lower abs to slide into the chest with space to spare between the two pieces. You can actually increase the abs and cod scale a bit, and it will still fit into the chest. Let me know if you get that far and want to double check on the fit between two scales.
Laelee, I was thinking of doing a shiny cloth with thin upholstery foam lining and attaching the abs ring you made for the abs part. The flexible cloth/foam will give the illusion of spring like motion or compressing decompressing rings when robo moves his abs in the movie. The eva foam does not allow for that illusion. Also I attached the lower part of the abs to the upper part of the cod as that would serve as a better "belt or garter area" for the cod part.
Thanks for all the ideas and keep on building guy!

I'll dig up the thigh files, I think they are on my work computer :(

Keep up the good work, I really like your hinge idea with the helmet. Especially working in foam, those multi-piece helmets can be a hassle to fit and get to keep shape. :thumbsup

Thanks

I thought that was the inner neck...

just put it on ... very tricky piece

IIRC, i left a lip around the edge to lay against the chest's matching edge if the two pieces were going to be kept together. In foam I would just extend the neck's edges to tuck under the chest, also to allow for some movement while wearing. That piece is definitely not friendly in paper pep for wearing, because of the mobility it wants.

Laelee, replied to your post on Stealth's thread... Any luck on the hinged panel files?:)

I've not found the file, I will keep an eye out for it though. Been very busy with other projects as of late, and I have a lot of data spread over a lot of stuff, :(

just wanted to show you what I made with your files :)
not completed to my satisfaction yet

Wow, that looks pretty amazing to me! And the proportions look good on you too (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

new to this. can i ask. have i missed something. i,ve download all the files and made a start on the helmet. but is there a file for the right leg

The left and right thighs are in the first post of the thread for both foam and paper pep. The shins, on the other hand, are identical, just opposite. After opening the left shin file in Pepakura Designer, go to others at the top menu bar, and click on the Mirror inversion (both 2d and 3d) option to generate the opposite piece. The same is done for the boots, gloves, and forearms.

This is the best suit anyone could ever build in my eyes. I have my links to my FOAM Iron Man Foam suit that I built. It came out awesome, but i wore it 3 or 4 times and Foam suits just aren't practical to keep on display or for future reuse. Take the time for the paper pep and it will pay off. If you ARE interested in foam, follow my steps for an outstanding finish. (sealed with 3-5 coats of white glue/water mix, modpodge, plastidip, adhesion promoter, primer, paint, and clearcoat.)
Once again, great work to both of the pep creators.

made a start on the helmet i appear to have the sizing right. time will tell. any you guys have a pic of the finished helmet

hi there master laellee
tomorrow will gonna start building this awesome file for a friend will post progress in this thread.
i already scaled the chest and the helmet.
my friend body physics same as mine
i scaled the chest 450 my height is 5'9" the measure of my arm pit to armpit is 15" do i scaled the chest right??

my head size round is 22" 1/2 i scaled the helmet. 9.9 is that right??

and im planning to scaled the whole suit with the same scale for every part 450 is that posible or right?

hope you can guide me master laellee

thanks for the people who make this file possible and easy to build.

Hey there IM, great work on your Buzz suits!

I would probably scale all of the pieces to 455. I think you can probably scale everything the same and be ok. The two areas you will probably have to modify are the bicep arm openings, and the ankle area. For the biceps, some people have cut the top opening larger in diameter to get more movement and better fit; the bicep can be built normally, and then you just take scissors or knife and enlarge it to what works for you. The ankle area of the shin is pretty narrow, you may need to add a little foam to make it fit loosely. Hopefully not.

The helmet is the hardest part to scale, I would print out the templates for the center pieces first (the wrap around the visor opening) and try that to check the scale wrapped on your head. That helmet was a pain for me to fit properly in paper pep, and I'm the one who modeled it lol.

Keep me posted on your progress, problems and whatever else... I'd like to revisit these files in the next month or so to make a version 2. I think I can clean up the original models to make building easier.

Wow thanks for the kind comment about my buzz and the info you reply back. Will do what you said here. Thank you very much
