Robocop: The Original for Pepakura **8/29 1st post update, foam glove**

Re: Robocop: The Original for Pepakura *6/16 UPDATE skull reveal and face added page

Hey Y'all,
Glad this thread is still alive and kicking. Finished the helmet with the help of a friend, the 11 scale was way to big so I had to start again with a 10.5 scale which turned out better. Will be posting pics in the coming week and start a thread by end of August or early September hopefully. Been doing research on Dino-Raptor costumes as I will be making two suits for September so hands kinda full.

Awesome. Let me know if you need anything.

Ouch that's a tough scale to work.... I modeled completely off of movie stock, captures and film pics (and random others) and that made the original scale barely wearable by a 5'10" individual. It CAN'T fit a 5'2 person. If you'd like to still try, PM me and I'll see what I can do. :)

Scale it the best you can
And if the parts dont fit you can modify them by cutting, when fiberglassed, then glue it back an fiberglass again, i have done it

I joined this forum just for this thread alone. HUGE props to the author and all those replying with their own works.

I can't thank you enough for these files. I've never attempted ANY building so this will be my first project all together. All my life I've wanted a Robosuit...

Thanks for the kind words. Feel free to post here or PM me if you run into problems, and I will help if I can. This is a pretty ambitious choice for a first build :thumbsup

So glad there are people out there building this now... so iconic.

Love this. Been lurking for a while and put my Mark IV on hold to do this. Wish me luck. Never scaled before, so it will be interesting (I'm 5'10, 155lb). Fist time foam build.

I'll start my thread soon (hopefully). Thanks for the great work!

Ya I figured I would run into all kinds of issues considering 1) it's my first build, 2) I'm using a method I learned from Toronto Wamachine who learned from Toronto Iron Man, I am building using aluminium, and 3) there's no good way to find that roundness of the top of the helmet.

I used a halloween-store army helmet which didn't quite fit the size despite all the heat-gunning and cutting. Stole that technique from someone in this thread. I'll post results tomorrow.

Thinking of hands next. I have decent high-cut black leather work gloves that night be great for the job.

Hey there,
I made the gloves as a prototype to help with sizing/scaling, so I never did a foam unfold. Having said that, give me about 10 minutes or so, I'll unfold one.

***UPDATED***

Glove foam template added to the first post. Finally added the skull reveal and face pep to the first post as well.

Has anyone done a scale on this for a 5"9-5"10 build yet?

Would be good to have a rough starting point, as I'm about to start the torso (helmet is done).

The builds I've seen were almost all for people over 6' tall. Having said that, I would scale the chest at 460 for your height. That is kind of a stand-alone piece; once you have a nice fit on that then you can figure out your lower torso scale.
As a side not, I modeled the lower abs to slide into the chest with space to spare between the two pieces. You can actually increase the abs and cod scale a bit, and it will still fit into the chest. Let me know if you get that far and want to double check on the fit between two scales.

Thanks for the help! I'll start printing in a few hours and should have the chest assembled by the end of the week.

I'm 5'11" what would be the best way to scale the Files to my size correctly?

A lot depends on your build as well. I would start with a chest scale of 470, and then use the point-to-point measurement tool in Pepakura on other pieces as you go to check scales relative to your own measurements. All of the pieces (except for the helmet) can be imported into Pepakura together to take longer body measurements for comparison. Here's a quick scaling breakdown that can help:

Chest is usually just scaled proportional to overall height, because it comes out roomy. If unsure, you can measure from armpit-to-armpit and adjust your scale accordingly on the chest's arm openings.
Lower torso can be scaled the same or even slightly larger than the chest; I left room for the two to fit together. Using point-to-point, compare the narrowest section of the waist with your own and make sure your scale is at least large enough to fit you. It may still be necessary to make a velcro seam/etc. to get in and out, although Robocop isn't exactly svelte in the waist area lol.
Biceps and forearms should be scaled the same to make sure the hinging matches up well. I measure from the center of my arm where it reaches my shoulder down to my wrist, and set my scale accordingly using point to point. Once the bicep is built, the arm opening 90% of the time is cut larger for mobility, so this also gives you more wiggle/fit room to help your arms function well.
Gloves I never intended to make pep gloves, I'd rather use neoprene or do custom casts. I left the forearm in two pieces specifically so you can ditch the lower forearm if you want and instead using a long gauntlet glove (like black neoprene hazardous chemical gloves)
Thighs and shins should also be scaled together like the arms for hinging. Point to point from the Thigh section top to the shin bottom is pretty comparable to the distance from your hip to ankle-bone (I'm obviously not big on proper anatomy). The lower calves on the model are VERY narrow even when scaled properly, just a heads up that depending on your build they may have to be widened.
Boots if you can fit your shoes inside the boots at the same scale as your leg pieces, awesome. If not, they can be enlarged a bit. The only point of connection they have to the legs is through the leg-pistons, otherwise the shins just reach down on them like an ironman suit would.

Sort of random question because I'm thinking of doing this. Do you know if anyone has ever made a Robocop suit with an animated thigh holster?
