Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster! After a few different Iron Man foam pep costumes (thank you to this generous community for files, foam-working tips, etc) I decided to tackle Magneto, specifically the design from the new Marvel Rivals game:
Got the raw helmet from an Etsy vendor, and the rest is EVA foam and 3d-modeled and printed belt pieces.
(I went with the Krakoan-era Xs on the sides just to better fit the theme since he references Krakoa a bit in the game.)
Templatessssss... fashion tape measure was my friend for SURE.
The shoulder baubles are plastic treat/confetti orb halves that grabbed off of Amazon for cheap. Then I just made almost-circle templates to get the angled ring for the base. The middle chest bauble is a security cam half-dome
Initial back details starting to take shape...
Collar details...
Great lightweight sculpt on the 3d-printed helmet, just had to sand it down since it arrived raw.
Base layer of plasti-dip almost like a flexible primer.
Painttttttt...
Belt coming together...
I feel like I did a B-minus on the helmet paint job; some of the blue tape masking failed and I had some red paint dribbles in a few areas but not bad for walking around con and I was out of good weather paint days
(Draped over the chair behind the torso armor is a baselayer long sleeve compression tee that I cut asymmetrically and glued 1/8th" foam details to)
Foam chain link drip
And, after final assembly (using a bunch of rare earth magnets as the basis for the various clasps because on-brand)(and some beard dye )...:
I had a blast during the build, and walking around con was amazing. I had room, and I only had one magnet-based fail on one of the hip Xs so it was kinda flapping toward the end of the day.
Hope you enjoyed the thread, and let me know if anyone has questions about the build!
