Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

RoboCop's most badass one liner in the trilogy:

"Don't."

:facepalm

Though the new costume's been compared to Iron Man, I watched Iron Man yesterday and thought he looked way better and more robot-like than the new RoboCop...

Hoping it will be better than we think in the end though.

Definitely toyed with the idea of buying the trilogy on Blu-ray...:confused

I need the R1 director's cut. I have all the others in normal form including Prime Directives (which was better than R3). Best part of R3 was ed 209 being on screen again, the rest of it seriously reminded me of the 80s Robocop cartoon.

I don't understand how they could ever make the jump from Robocop to 3 in just two movies. It was pure garbage. It lost that sense of drama and storytelling that the original one had. And it was what, pg-13? There is no reason, after watching the first, that the movies should go to pg-13. Nor should there have been the overtly obvious references to OCP being Nazis (look at the flags and uniforms in 2). They handed the keys over to Frank Miller and by that point he had already lost his ability to tell a story.

The reboot CAN'T be as bad as #3, but to me it just looks/sounds like they have missed the point of robocop.

While I don't want to compare it to the original, it's going to be tough to match the charm. The same can be said for the Total Recall remake, sometimes the premise doesn't work on it's own and in Robocop, there's a lot of satire that keeps the film from being just another action flick. I don't mind seeing a serious remake, but from what I've seen so far, everything just looks like something out of another generic action movie.

Wasn't Robocop 3 just the tv show pilot?

No, the 2 hour pilot for the tv show was called The Future of Law Enforcement and was adapted from a discarded RoboCop 2 script called Corporate Wars by the writers of the original RoboCop.

Ah! RC3 Looked "Made For TV" movie-ish to me. Never really got into any of it after the first one anyway...

I was 8 yrs old when Robocop hit theaters and had to beg an uncle to take me....fond memories and years of nightmares from the acid bath scene. "Help me..."

That was also my first exposure to excessive foul language as well, which got me in a boat-load of trouble when I went home and asked my parents the definition of certain words. My uncle had lots of explaining to do. Fond memories...

Ah, the good ol' days.. when R-rated movies were rated R for a reason. The 80s were the glory days for the R rating.. lol.

Sweet the whole thing is on Youtube! I'm like 10 minutes in-- it's pretty damn horrible, lol. RoboCop won't even shoot anyone!! He just keeps shooting 'things' so that they fall on the bad guys. Why even bother doing the damn show if you're going to dumb it down that much!
And the guy playing Robo looks an awful lot like Weller- but unfortunately he walks like a damn ape.

Oh man-- the first time I saw the first movie, it was when I was around 6 and it was on TV (edited). While they showed the part where Emil gets melted in the truck- and then the 'help me....' scene - they cut the part where Clarence hit him with the car. So for years I thought Emil just wandered the steel mill forever! The thought of that gave me nightmares for years! 'The Haunted Steelmill'- legend says a zombie walks the premises...! :lol

Yep! Acid bath = Nightmares. :lol

Although the worst for me was the innocent guy that Ed 209 takes out in the board room. He didn't do anything to deserve that!

Remake or no, it will never take away from the magic of the original. That had the lot, good script, good cast, plenty of O.T.T. 80's action and violence, but most importantly the movie had heart. Yes so far the reboot pics isn't filling us with confidence but hopefully we can only be proven wrong and plesantly surprised, but I kinda doubt it.

Does anyone know the tone of the movie?

The original had some very graphic violence, but it also didn't take itself too seriously, and had many moments of comedy, especially the commercials.

Will the remake do the same?

One thing I just discovered (may be already known here) is that Micheal Keaton has taken the role once heralded for Hugh Laurie as the villain. Now this is something that I'm excited about! I haven't seen Keaton in a notable villainous role in a while, and he's amazing, so hopefully this is a good omen for the movie!!
