Rey's Blaster - All Metal Build With Videos - S2Jesse

Lot more progress. Got all the metal parts finished. Just have to mill the slots in the side panel. I modeled and 3d printed the grips. I also just cleaned those up and got them ready for molding. Next video will show that and the assembly! Pretty excited its all coming together.

I've been following your build for the last week or so, amazing work. Your videos are really informative and entertaining. I've been planning to make a metal Rey gun myself, but I've only got a manual mill and lathe to work with and I'm not much good at 3d modeling. For the grips, I was planning to modify, mold, and cast the grips from an airsoft gun, but they just arrived and seem very small in comparison to the ones on my Denix Mauser. Any chance you could share the sizing of your grips somehow? I came up with the same barrel diameter you did, and I'm worried these grips I got will be disproportionate.

Beautiful. I want...so badly. Will have to make due with my 3d printer version for now.

I used Denix and Dark engergy grips as a base for sizing then modeled my own from scratch to be exact fit for the frames. I can prob cast an extra set once i get to that point if your interested. They would be very close to the size of typical mouser grips. So if your airsoft ones are smaller than denix they are "probably" too small, at least based on my measurements.

Ok Part 5 is up!

So close!.. I got all my waterjet parts back. I made the safety, printed, molded and cast the grips. Finally a near complete blaster. Feels real nice in the hand. Has a nice hefty feel! I just have to do a couple odds and ends and then polish and weather. I bought the digital version TFA and been watching it frame by frame. I have 2 small accuracy tweaks to make and i think its spot on :)

Oh I also I just started an Instagram. I'll be putting a lot more in progress shots on there. Check it out and follow for more frequent updates!

I´m sorry to say that, but Denix grips are the bulkiest of all known Mauser copies. Way to big, considered the size of real grips.

And as these grips seem to be based on the airsoft version (Modell 712 Schnellfeuer instead of C96), visible due to the much fewer groves, i assume your grips are noticeable to big. And if you based your overall dimensions on those grips ........

I did have to scale them "SLIGHTLY" down but barely. They are def a good amount thinner as I'm sure you can tell in my video vs denix grips. I feel like they have to be pretty close where they are because they are in good proportion to rest of the parts when overlayed on all of the reference pics. And the total length of the 2 i made are right around 11" - 11.2ish" which seems to gel closely with Justinian's report that the accurate length is 11". And if they are still a little too big maybe I also just got lucky with the rest because i did notice on his blueprint he has a little more metal showing around the edge of the grips.

Definitely awesome work on this. I'm watching your videos to learn how to use the mini lathe.

Absolutely Fantastic, looks so amazing, you are a talented man......
Love it,

Nicely done man, love it. I checked a higher rez version of the film yesterday, and glad to say the 7 hole version I saw in the low rez shot posted on the first page of this thread, doesn't actually exist, also the groove across the front plate doesn't seem to exist on screen as well. Really lovely job Jesse. Damn I need some more money for some machinery. :)

Come on, kid - do your homework.

I actually LIKED his work, but the sizing is still not set in stone.

This blaster can be done with hand tools by a skilled metalworker (and a LOT of work, some of us still remember how things were done before having cnc), but for sure i would use my machines. Material is already put aside for the day we definately know the size, and i find some time for it (time is rare, and all TFA is not very high on my wishlist, but this a little bit higher, just still no OT). Will not start now to learn later my dimensions were of.

You do realize you just told an actual Prop Master in the industry to do his homework, right?

Wow Jesse it keeps getting better and better. I'm with the other guys who love watching CNC and regular mill/ lathe videos. You've helped me out a lot, I only have an air setup on the CNC I use (shopbot desktop) but was worried I would need cutting fluid. i also see you have the PCNC 1100, Last week I watched about 6 hours of youtube video's of one of them. I think the PCNC 1100 and the 15L Slant Lathe are an amazing combination. Keep the video's coming!
