Fifth Element: Korben Dallas blaster (mostly metal)

Yep, that one.

I'd love to anodize them, but I don't have the setup for it. I'm planning to look into it, but for now the plan is to paint them.

Can always try powder coating as well..

Easy to do.. and fairly cheap as well..

Powder coat doesn't really have the right look for this. Anodize would be ideal, but matte black and clear paint would be the second best option.

I dont think any of of the (dark) trans colors will match or be as good as being anodized either..

but you mentioned painting. (which I thought might be as equal as far as the black goes) :)

Not sure what (if any) weathering you may have planned.. so painting might be best as you say.

I have done both clear and matte finish on parts powder coating. (although these are terrible pictures...lol)

That's really interesting. We get a lot of parts anodized and powder coated at my work and the powder coated ones compared to the anodized ones always look like a really good airbrush paint job compared to hosing a part down with gloss rattle can from 3 inches away. Very goopy. Do you have a tutorial you followed for that?

Just the normal powder coating process...

Trans colors.. I have found at least... are much more difficult. You need to 'hot coat' it for to come out better.

But for blacks (matte and gloss)..

just clean your part REALLY good.. and dust/spray it with your PC machine.. and back it.

I use a $17.00 toaster oven from my local WalMart to bake my stuff too.... (I dont have room in my garage for a bigger oven).. :(

I got all 4 CNCed pieces machined. They need the holes reamed and tapped still and some minor fitting, but it's coming together.

oh my god this is super fast and super awesome! this is the best 5th element blaster I have ever seen! I'm so jealous right now!
congrats (y)

Thank you!

It's unfortunately going to start slowing down a little. It took me months to model the gun and program the CNC, running the machine was the fast part. Now I've got to turn all the other parts on a manual lathe, modify the resin gun, and rapid prototype the grip frame a bunch of times until it fits.

I got a little more work done today than I expected. The two side plates and the barrel are done.

I have to do some fitting on the pockets for each disk. This is my first project on the CNC machine and I didn't know to compensate for tool wear, so all of my pockets ended up being a couple thousandths of an inch too small. Shouldn't take too long though. I'm planning to start on the large turned piece at the front on Monday, but I'll have to stop short of finishing it until the radius bit I ordered for the lathe shows up.

Do you think you could make some extra front barrels, and a couple parts from the front? I
know there are some other folks, looking for some metal upgrade parts.
