By the way, for those wondering/following the wrap fabric question, I took this at JoAnn today.

Natural on the bottom (this is what I got, on the advice of others here and, well, how it looks) and papyrus on the top (stupid phone rotated the pic - sorry!).

Either could be dyed appropriately, I think, but in a pinch, the natural could be left alone - though a touch of grey and some weathering ideal, I think.

Wow,, I would have thought the top lighter beige would have taken the dye better no? The bottom one seems do dark already. Interesting!

Filled with fluff or a box was my plan, as well.

By the way, they have some canvas at JoAnn for the budget-minded/good enough folks. You could easily make a bag with a half yard or whatever. It's thinner than it "should" be, but it would work in a pinch. I'm going to my local military surplus store tomorrow to scope them out for a "close enough" bag to modify.

That is exactly what I did. I was stoked to find an almost identical bag for $20 at a surplus store. It was too wide, so I just modified it. I cant say enough about surplus stores!

I went back and forth on it, but in the flesh, the darker one is just about right all on its own to me. Depends on how earth-tone versus how grey you go. It's so variable, depending on lighting, etc, in the pics. I think either works, really. *shrug*

Exactly. The P-37 needs mods anyway, so it just doesn't matter to me. I have a few British friends keeping an eye out in case one comes their way, but, for me, why? I can modify another bag or make one that'll do. Yes, I 'm trying for Rebel Legion with this costume, but still...there's accurate and then there's perfect. I'm okay with accurate.

Great stuff.
You can get a new large bag in Australia from the army disposals that is made of the same material as the p37 signals satchel, and has the same buckles as straps for about AUD$18, US$12, so this pattern means you can make the bag up from the same materials quite easily. Thanks so much!

I was debating the same thing. Strongly considering no dye. I have some liquid Rit pearl grey here, but...I'm thinking not...just some weathering-type work.

By the way, anyone know what page the wrap pattern is on? I'm trying to find it and....yeah, this thread is 60 pages long. Sigh.

That said, I can do it without. Just trying to remind myself of where things start. Start at front of right knee -> left shoulder -> loop down by left knee -> right shoulder -> end behind right knee, correct? Crossing in front, but not in back.

Has anyone attempted to make Rey's wrap using the crinkle gauze available at Dharma Trading? Their crinkle gauze is rayon, which matches what we know about the wrap used in the movie (as viscose and rayon are basically synonymous), and it would have the same built-in wrinkle texture as the fabric people are using from Joann:

I also think the texture of her pants indicates a silk crepe de chine, not raw silk as most people seem to be using. I ordered swatches of the Stone Wash Crepe de Chine and Heavy Crepe de Chine from Dharma, so I'll report back with further thoughts when they get here.

I actually read all 61 pages of this thread and it was most enjoyable. I'm planning to do a Rey costume for Dragon Con this year and there's detail in here I had overlooked in my costume planning. You all are amazing!

In this last pic it's just pinned roughly together for a quick pic. I'm going to stitch it all together tonight quite proper...so it won't look so uneven on top.

I am starting my Dark Rey costume soon. I plan on keeping with as screen accurate as possible just going to change the colors from tan to black with a dark grey accent. (Possibly going to make the undershirt dark grey with a black slash). I am also highly considering using a replica of Han Solo's belt instead of the one she uses in the movie and I intend to carry around a lightsaber. Most likely, Kylo's because it is my favorite red one.

This will be my first full costume build (does it still count as build since I plan on buying a few pieces?) and I am more than willing to post pictures if anyone is wanting to see them.

I may have located a readily available white shirt that will work. Anyone have suggestions on what Rit dye color or colors to try on it? I see they have a "tan" and a "taupe."

I should also be getting a few swatches from Dharma tomorrow, and because I'm a super nerd and I have no shame I'm bringing them along with me Saturday when I visit the Star Wars costume exhibit in Times Square lol I'm also hoping to hit up mood fabrics.

What I plan to do is use PVC rather than a dowel. With PCV, very easy to cut it in the middle and connect it with a coupler, then just pop it apart when travel needed. Might even do three pieces, as just two make it unlikely to fit in a suitcase for, say, Dragon Con*. My Mindy Stick (Hit Girl) breaks into four pieces (both blades, then two sections for the middle) and that's perfect for travel.

*Though I shipped cosplay accessories for the first time this year, and it was wonderful, so I'm less stressed about this than I might be otherwise. That said, this staff will cost me much more than my Hawkeye quiver, bow, and arrows, so...I'd probably rather keep them with me?

Just thought I'd let folks know that I got my Po-Zu boots in today. They fit true to size for me. I wear a women's 8-8.5 US, and I got the 39 EU and they're fine. Comfy, too.

I used the sort of fastener that one puts into the bottom of a sofa leg. You will need to drill an appropriate sized hole in each end that you'll want to join (2). Then you will need a section of threaded rod which fits and cut it off to length, and then thread one end into one of the sockets, and then thread the other half of your staff onto that and you'll have it.

I'll take a picture of mine when I get home tonight.

JDM Ninja and I discussed breaking down the staff made with PVC and decided to keep it in one piece. There is a lot of flex and give to the PVC pipe and getting the cut and screw placement just right is a challenge. Just some food for thought.
