I have a limited run started. I don't think I'm allowed to post a link so just search for "Poe Dameron Macrobinocular"

I plan to start my build later this week and was wondering where everyone placed the sling mounts? I grabbed the adjustable square and I am looking at between 0.75 - 1.25 in from the end, centered on each side. At 0.75in, it is just past the curve of the body. I plan to grab a hole punch and punch out a circle of painters' tape for placement and and see how the sling mounts look in that range.
    Thanks in advance!

I eyed my sling mounts, but I have them in line with each other when it comes to side by side

Basically got them centered, I was able to get some work done on mine

    Two questions :)

Does anyone have a tutorial how to disassemble the camera?

Should the leather on the top and bottom be completely removed? For me it looks like there is no leather anymore.

I think it's personal preference at this point. The visual dictionary appears to have the leather removed. But there's also evidence that the prop on screen was cast, so there probably wasn't leather on it at all. I think it looks really cool with it on so I left it for the one I made.
As far as disassembling the camera, I took a few photos when I did mine that I could use to make a guide but I think Halliwax might even have a video tutorial in the works. Not sure yet.

The trapezoid will pop off. Re read the thread back several pages.
For the dial, that disc is glued on and covers a screw. use an exacto blade to pop it off.

You need to pull the entire lens assembly off. there are three screws that hold it on. two are under the lens turret and the third is under the small dial. Unscrew the "normal" lens to access the other two screws.

When you remove it be careful not to lose this ball bearing as this is what allows the turret to turn and click into position.
    8D2A36B4-559C-4BDC-98EF-5FB200CC44C4.jpeg

Then behind the lens turret is a nut held by a bent spring washer. keep note of how this is assembled so it goes back the same way. you have to get the back plate off so you can paint the lenses black

But why i have to pull the entire lens assembly of?
    For the trapezoid greeble?

Or the disc? But can’t i just break of the disc? It will be replaced anyways?

I have the directors series, I removed all the internal guts to install the swivel clip mounts

Trent walked me through it, and I followed his instructions exact. This way you can put it back together and the camera keeps its bulky wait

    46367110-6FB1-4663-AAEF-BF09AA49FA76.jpeg

You have to remove all the guts to install the other part of the swivel mount because this one is held in with a nut. I cut the bolt short to fit all the camera guts back in

Dang, really nice job modeling and printing all those parts, Trent!

What printer are you using? Form 2?

I also like your faux bare metal paint job on the viewer hood and other parts, do you use any special paints or techniques to get that lovely worn/dirty yet shiny-in-places finish?

One thing I see that I'm not sure about is the pill shaped detail on top of the viewer. In some screen caps it looks like it's not parallel with the edge of the viewer. Do you see that? Looks slightly skewed or rotated to me. And wow, the trapezoid detail is ridiculously close! Crazy good.

    Anyway, again, VERY nice work!!

Are you talking about this piece? Not sure I see what you mean, are you sure it's not just perspective? Show me what screen caps you're talking about.

Yep, that's the part, and that's the screen grab I was referring to!

See how the greeblie isn't parallel with the edge of the viewer?

It could very well just be the angle the picture was taken. Perspective distortion, perhaps.

Maybe I kinda see it. not sure That area of the viewer has a wonky edge anyway. It's not straight so that could be throwing it off. Look at the bottom of it compared to the bottom edge. It looks much more in line. And also note that the whole thing is angled from the camera so parallel lines would appear farther apart as they get closer to the lens. I'm thinking i's mostly just perspective.

    You're probably right. It's a funny angle.

Inspired by Trooper Trent's work. I started my building again, only mine build is based on the Visual Directory.
Most metal parts. Still have to do some weathering and I will make a custom viewer.
Good luck with your builds everybody.

No found parts, I saw Trent making his own parts and thought: making them yourself is faster then waiting for the greeblies to appear.
The bottom-dial with the ribs is from a movie-camera and transformed a little.

Funny this thread is bumped today. I’ve been on the couch trying to kick this head cold..

Indiana Jones has been playing all day on tv, movie after movie. I’ve only seen the crystal skull a few times but noticed today, when Indy is tied down in the chair and the Russian chick puts the skull to him, a Russian is in the back ground with this tri camera recording everything
