REF PICS OF THE AT-AT

HI Everybody. I'm a newcomer to this forum. So let me introduce myself. I'm from denmark and has been building sci-fi kits from some years now.
For my next "BIG" kit I'd like t do the AT-AT. I've been working on some drawings, but there are some parts I can't identify. Please see the link to the picture futher down. The things I'd like to know more about are marked i red.
If there are any kitparts in there, what are they (Kit and partnumber)? Also please let me know if these parts are not identical on both sides.

1. The Chinguns. How much of that is kitbashed and how much is constructed?
2. The Sideguns. The two round parts that cover the lower of the 38mm. And the square shield thingy at the back of the guns.
3. The thing at the back of the guns. The square part on the lower part of the head. See pic.
4. The Neck. Well just about everything besides the ripped tube.
5. The Vents? Those little rectangular parts that are found all over the body.
6. Forward maintenence bay. The opening on the front third of the body.
7. Rear maintenence bay. The opening on the rear third of the body. It looks like an exhaust pipe.
8. Shoulder thingy. See pic. This part is missing from some the models that has been on exhibition.

Please see the picture here www.krokohunter.dk/stuff/staermose/atatbp.jpg

I know this is a lot to ask for for a newcommer, but I hope you can help me.

Try buyng vintage donor kits.....

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not a SS scratchbuild modeler, but being an admirer of those who are, and having spent a few months reading backlogs of RFP threads (and I would recommend you do the same), I believe there are folks here willing and able to help you, BUT:

First, you must prove yourself serious about your chosen task. (Having not walked the walk, so to speak, I know I might sound to the SS vets a bit forward in addressing this topic, but if I've got the board vibe wrong, I welcome correction.)

In any case, you don't need to ID these greeblies to build up the structures of your AT-AT hull, head, and legs (it is, of course, helpful to know the size of a few key kit parts for proper scaling, but there's enough info in this thread to obtain some of the major ones). It sounds like your plans are fairly mature. Go ahead and polish them up, get the vintage kits you know you'll need, and start building!

Post plenty of in-progress photos as you go (we all love seeing those), and then, when you hit a snag, I bet you'll find plenty of fellow SS modelers ready to lend a hand. It's just a matter of plunging in and showing you're serious about your project.

For my part, I've found the posts here very helpful, and will benefit greatly from them when I begin work on my Canadian AT-AT (#15!).

Thanks. I'll post a couple of update pics during the construction phase. I'll return with more questions when run into some trouble (and I will).

Ok man heres your feebie.. #7 tamiya 1/35 T-34 has the part your looking for.. thats the good news.. even better news there are several pieces from that kit used on the AT-AT. Heres the not so good news there are two other pieces that go in the #7 area that might not be that easy to find!

Happy hunting.. we have all been there! Look forward to your progress pictures!

Steve

So, has anyone here done a full set of castings of all of the various model kit parts necessary to accurize the Canadian kit? I'm getting ready for it now....

Ken

Let me asure you that there's a whole lot of other work needed then just adding the details. To get it accurate you actually need to rebuild a lot of parts before adding the details. It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

Steve.

I'm getting ready to jion this maddness, my up north kit is ordered and was said to ship this week. :D

Looking at his instructions and the parts changes he has listed in 9 years it looks like he has changed some of the things you guys have kitbashed.

****INFO TAKEN FROM INSTRUCTIONS****
Parts changes..

Butt detail to fit real one
Studio scale butt plate
(i include both sides and the one i made )
exact detail for the back of the body

****Armour ``butt`` plates
· The edges of the plates need to be thinned down or tappered inwards so as to appear thinner and in scale.
· If the studio scale plates are used then spacers for them must be made so as to create a spacing between the plates and the body. If the single, non studio scale plate is used, then the spacer is already there (a small rectangular piece sticking out in the back above the butt piece (on the left side)).*****

Anyone know if this correct? Steve, PM'd you on it as well.

Thanks for any info.
Lynn

I recall reading the same regarding my kit, but I think it only came with a single buttplate.

BTW, I'm glad to hear the kit is still alive. I had heard dark tales of molds dying...

Definitely a worthy purchase. I may buy the MR version, but this one will be to have fun with.

Lynn, got it, I might have read the info wrong though. Reading it here again it definetly seems like there's a new "butt tub" included.

From what I've heard the dark tales are true.

I think he's shipping out the last bunch.

The molds have been resurrected!!!!!! I received my kit today. I'll be building it next week.

I don't think mine will look as good as yours Steve, with all the add-ons that you've done, but I'll give it my best shot. I'll post some pics as they come in.

Yeah, but Ron told me the molds are degrading FAST and may not get many more pulls.

That is why I asked about it, I don't want to start buying kits if I don't need to just yet, I'll just wait until I get my kit or see what anyone else says.

From what Ron told me, there "may" not be many more, the molds are degrading very fast. I fact I had to wait for him to get two pulls out over last weekend before he said he would even make mine.

Gotta question that hasn't been brought up.

Where/what are the head lights on the AT-AT in ROTJ?

Any one have any pics?

Any one have any ideas of how to do it?

It just looks like two bulbs (probably weat of grain bulbs) stuck between the chin lasers and the two armor plates. Going ROTJ are you!

I may, It is a cool detail to add to it. I may even light the window and give it that red "glow" like in the comic book.
