REF PICS OF THE AT-AT

My Canadian "Friend" was thinking about constructing the landing platform from ROTJ as a display for his AT-AT. Incorporating the two gain of wheats.

We mulled over the idea and realized it would look great, but the diorama would be so huge, that he'd have no room for it......pitty!

The imperial shuttle looked the right scale and all. What do you think about the scale Steve?

OK, I'm confused....

Why does this MoM exhibit AT-AT have taperd legs on the back of the thighs and shins instead of being straight up and down????

I noticed this on the AT-AT in the "From SW to Indy" book as well, it is probably the same one.

Is this a protype???

I don't rmember seeing a walker like this in ESB, I'll have to look again.

Well, I just got my AT-AT from the great up north!!
This thing is AWESOME!! and HUGH!
I already stated on it tonight doing mods to the head to make it look more accurate.

The reason the legs are cut away like that was to make it possible to push them into an extreme pose for when the AT-AT was felled. You can see the same cut aways on pictures of the large AT-AT too.

The legs of Walker as designed can't collapse fully beneath it - the cutaway leg's enabled them to cheat the crashed pose.

Lynn, got it, I might have read the info wrong though. Reading it here again it definetly seems like there's a new "butt tub" included.
Steve.

Actually, Now after unwrapping everything and see if it is all here, the butt tub I have is the same as the old one you replaced. There is two butt plates on the back however.
wishful thinking... Off to eBay to look for the kits to make the real tub.

I do have the 2CM Flakverling (SP?) gun on it's way now.

Can anybody help me identify this part? Its that round part that sits on, what I believe is a part from the Saturn V. I know that there some backside seats from the flakvierling attached and something that might be a lifeboat. But the roundish thing, what is that? Or is it several parts put together?

So far nobody have ID'ed that part.

I'm actually planning to have one machined from delrin plastic and add on the other details.

Steve.

Has anyone else ever thought of painting there's too look new off the showroom floor? Just to be differant, I think I'll be painting mine that way. Of course, I'm still trying to figure out the exact color shade to paint the body.

I have a theory that the part above in question could be the wheel hub to a semi truck like the ones used for the Jedi Remote. The thing is that the part above doesn't have any of the details like the holes that the wheel hub would have. The dimension and that edge lip sure do look like a wheel hub though.

Anyone else agree with my theory?

Actualy mine is... #19 and signed as well.

I asked earlier about at the part in the front of the motor that sits on the Saturn parts. Could it be from the Tamiya Tyrrell 6 Wheeler? If you compare the part at the top left with the pics of the MR AT-AT, then couldn't it be the same part? I don have the six wheeler yet, but if any of you out there has it, could you please make a comparison?

Ok just checked the 1/20th version its not in scale... its to small..Damn! Does someone have the 1/12 Tyrell 6 wheeler to check it out. Parts are simular but way to small.

Steve

Getting close keep hunting!!!

What exactly is used from the Airfix 144th scale Saturn V kit is used? will a Monongram kit of the same scale work, maybe not accurate, but will it work?

Lynn

Both scales of the Tyrell 6-wheeler are used on the ESB Falcon, so it's a likely candidate for mystery AT-AT pieces.

The Monogram Sat V is in the same scale and the equivalent part is the exact same size, so yes, it would work. Just minor detail differences that only the likes of us here in this forum would ever notice.

The Airfix version is easier to find, though.

Thanks bud!
But what is used from the Saturn V kit? and where? I've looked through the thread, but have not found an answer.

The tube shape the mystery part is nestled into. They're the same parts (two halves) used for the engine intakes on the X-Wing. (Recognize 'em now?

I do believe that the sphere that the mystery part sits on is also from the Saturn V. And the two large cylinders on the top, is used on the belly of the beast. Also a part of it is cut out and used at the end of the motor at the rear. Its the last bit before the Tamiya Sdkfz 222 butt tub part.

The Studio Scale website has lots of great kit scans, mainly for the Millennium Falcon, but many of these kits are also used on other SW props. If you want to ID a part try looking there, its a nice place to start.

Thanks Jay and Staermose!!
They must have done some heavy mods to them!

They added a wider strip of plastic in beteween the two squarish parts in the lower front, added a greeblie in the mid section, they removed and sanded the row of 13 "tear drop" shapes in the mid band, curved and reshaped the heck out the back section to fit the dirve motor to leg connection.
