Red Skull costume progess (new hi res pics pg 8)

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Our Little Chad is all grown up J/K. Actually I heard this online contact dealer is real good and I know a few members here have used them. Coloured Contact Lenses, Costume Contact Lenses, Halloween Lenses, Fashion Contacts

I am so excited and like you this will be my first pro silicone mask...I am nervous as kittens about how to handle it. Got your buckle today. Thank you very much. Very happy with it.

Those guys are more affordable...hmm.
Glad the buckle arrived safe and sound :thumbsup

Screw them if I'm gonna get it , it will be from you or themechanic.....Cheers

yea...
If I do a uniform style outfit like the sideshow statue, I'll prolly use embroidered patches.

The next thing I need to work on/figure out are those shoulder straps.
Mine keep falling of my shoulders; need to fasten them somehow...hopefully this week because I suit up again this saturday.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

well, I put my hands to a sewing machine tonite. :thumbsup
I bought some black vinyl from Wall-e-world that matched my coat pretty good.
I made some little bags...strategic spots were filled with quilt batting. The batting raised the ribs to look puffy, and at the same time, raised the ribs higher than the velcro.
I tried stitching by hand, to mount the ribs to the coat...um yea...no dice. I suck. :lol
I got a little ticked off and said to hell with it...I used my wonder glue.
Yep, I put the rib pad into position, my kid helped hold the coat up and I ran a bead of glue along the three edges. Everything else sticks to this damn coat, why not this :lol
It worked perfectly...and man did it bond...did it ever bond.

I used a toothpick and applied some of my glue to the backside of the shoulder Hydras to keep em down and it gave the shoulder sleeves some body. :thumbsup

I suit up this Saturday for a short event.
The weather forcast is a bad one...high Nineties with a heat index of over 100. I'll know if those armpits vent holes release heat or not :angel

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Great stories with the suit! Scary! lol Regarding the heat issues with the coat, I know you said you were wearing compression shirt & pants, but are they UnderArmor HeatGard? About $60- a set and they work tremendously well keeping me comfortable in all types of armor-

The hard patch is damn cool!

Wierd about the coat sticking to everything. That sucks! It's made of pleather, right? I wonder if there's some type of coating you could spray on it. Did you contact the people who made it?

Regarding the contacts- I wear soft contacts too, and for my Underworld Deathdealer Vampire, I just got the regular $60- colored contacts and wear them over my regular ones. I use the daily wear for these. A little odd feeling at first, as the two contacts are "heavier" than just one.

But once you get used to them, they're fine. Another odd thing is that they don't "track" side to side quite in sync with your eyes. About a heartbeat off, and it makes people a bit nervous. (not that you have any problem doing that already! lol) I wasn't aware of this at first, but people kept telling me about the effect.
When you remove them, I liberally douse them with saline solution and carefully peel them apart.

Works great for me, they've lasted for years and waaay cheaper than Wild Eyes! (that's where my eye doctor pointed me too)

Whelp, I jumped. Ordered me a set of prescription lenses from your place. Little over $70 US and I chose the 4-7 day delivery. We'll see how they do.

My compression suit must be what you're talking about. It is amazing how it sucks the sweat off of ya as well as the heat. It fits like spandex...but waaay different effect. :thumbsup

Thanks about my shoulder insignia. I've had a thread up in the J/Y for a few days now...no takers. The buckles I had left over went reasonably quick.

As for the weird stuff the coat does when I pack it; meh, I didn't want to complain to Shannon :angel
Her and her team in China did a great job, worked great with me...and from the sounds of a couple buds - they are making some of the mods I suggested. I'll be interested to see their coats land and pics they post.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Sounds like you've got it covered! About the best compliment I can give you is this- I only do good guys- but you're outfit, the fun you're having, the extra detailing, the coat and the mask of course...make me want to do my first villain! :lol

Re: Red Skull costume progess

I'd say go for it!! lol
Being where I am, smack dabb in the middle of Soy Bean Capitol of the World, I am alone.
No one in my town (that I have found anyway) does this level of stuff.
The closest to me is about an hour drive...there's some 501st buds and a couple dabble with superhero suits.
Guess the day will come, where I just save the darn money, and go to one of these DragonCON events or simliar.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

btw, for documenting..
these are the contacts I just ordered:

Freaky White Zombie Contact Lenses

When I first started wearing prescription contacts, I went through a couple brands before I found the ones that fits best...can't even tell I have em on my eyes. The first couple brands...I could tell there was something on my eye...felt it when I blinked..they moved around on my eye a bit, causing blurry vision.
I hope these zomibe eyes do me good.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Decatur,
I wouldn't complain about a lack of serious costumers. Where I am, costuming is either done by kids or teenage goth cosplayers.

The fact I am interested in silicone masks and some cool costumes puts in soo far in the left field that I would be considered a pariah if anyone knew.

We don't even celebrate halloween down under to seriously display these costumes. Last time I got to show off a costume was when heading off to the US for a costumed ball in a work conference I attended

I need to look into contacts as I wear glasses, but just can't get used to them. Need to talk to an optometrist again about them.

BTW sent you a PM about the insignias

Re: Red Skull costume progess

hat's both badass and creepy all in one...Looks like you walked off the set..IF they were still filming...you could walk right on..I GURANTEE IT!! :thumbsup

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Got my Red Skull suit today! The fabric is quite decent and doesnt stick or smell at all. (I had to beg the Post Office manager, who was the only guy there at our main post office today, to let me in the back door and give me my package...but it was worth it!)

It's been sitting in the Alabama heat for a day, so I think it was a good choice of plastic. Being a faux leather connoisseur, I won't say that it's as nice as the clothing PVC (dont think shiny chinese PVC...think pleather) that you can get at Sy Fabrics, but it's very very nice!

The design definitely isn't for the faint of heart. I looked at the additional strapping and thought...what the hell? at first, but Decatur your pictures above helped immensely. Thanks so much for blazing the trail on this one. Once I looked at yours and realized...hey...it goes on like an apron...the rest fell into place.

I asked her to keep the patches of the shoulders, but she fogot. Not a hard fix, but mildly annoying. Your buckle, DV, is going to work nicely!

I've already got red contacts coming for my Bizarro costume so I'll probably use those. I'm going for a mix of the movie & the Sideshow Collectibles, so I've made a skull cane, repainted a Luger waterpistol, and bought a faux cigarette holder to go along with my PVC riding boots.

Can you post a pic of the jacket with the new material? I too have the cigarette holder and I'm making the cane plus cosmic cube.. But spending more money on the German
uniform version

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Will do. I made a quick and dirty cosmic cube too. By frosting a 4" acrylic cube from Hobby Lobby and putting a glowing dog fetch ball inside, I got a decent result. Of course a guy over on the SCF went and blew that out of the water ha ha...but it's all good. Just making me want to step up my game.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

decaturvader, my thanks to you also. I've ordered my suit and have asked for several minor changes. They said they will make all requested changes. Again thanks for the R&D and info.

Awesome! I can't wait to see pics of it. Has the design changed any? Did they take it upon themselves to add the ribs in that little shoulder area like mine? Were the new shoulder patches and belt just those cut-outs, or did they use my logo I gave them to embroider??

You're more than welcome bro! :thumbsup
Least I can do for the RPF.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

today's event was a bust. :unsure
Too darn hot outside...no one showed up.
There were about 30 people there - and about 4 really gave two poops about seeing Red Skull and Iron Man.
My kid was a little disappointed he wasn't the star; but that's showbiz.

The weather - yes. Very hot. I wasn't outside too much since the crowd was so thin. I was in the coat and mask for about an hour and a half.

Early on, I had sweat roll down into my right eye.
Mkay, little weird..hasn't done that before.
I don't think I had the mask on right...prolly not up against my face as usual.
Half hay thru the set, I noticed water pooling in my chin.
I took a paper towel, wadded it up and stuck it down the mouth opening to absorb all the sweat :angel

I also noticed in his pics, my black dye-job on the hat still doesn't look black enough...heck, it doesn't even look like the dark blue changed at all in that light. Gonna airbrush black water-based paint into it or get a different hat.

My son's friend came this time with his $1000 Canon DSLR camera. Yeah, 18 megapixels! Wow.
Here's some biggies to show his lense and color capture:

Re: Red Skull costume progess (high res pics page 6!!)

Wow what a fantastic costume, i hope that also goes up on display at your home and not packed away in a closet, because that deserves to be seen!

Re: Red Skull costume progess (high res pics page 6!!)

the shot in the bar is awesome!

Most def. I am on the fence about displaying the mask. I don't want it on a mannequin, out in the open, collecting dust though. The coat; sure bet it's gonna be on a dummy for display. I might get an acrylic case for the mask though.

the shot in the bar is awesome!

Thought you'd like that one Tom. :thumbsup
I was gonna go hit a tattoo parlor, get a shot of me in his chair getting the side of my head inked or sumthin :lol

That kid's camera is awesome.
Here is a crop from a 1:1, optimized 15%:
I love how the paint job on the mask responds to different lighting...and the guy in the background looks like he is saluting :lol
