Red Skull costume progess (new hi res pics pg 8)

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Mounted the buckle last night. My mannequin is far skinnier than me; but you get the point :lol

Re: Red Skull costume progess

That looks amazing! I just pmed you about getting a buckle.

I haven't gotten an ETA on my coat...or frankly even a response after I paid! I was hoping for a bit more communication. :(

Re: Red Skull costume progess

PM replied to :)

Shannon was really good about communication with me; maybe it was also due to it being a work-in-progress??
If you haven't already, drop her a short note to check status.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

I did buy some RIT Dye and attempted to dye my officer hat from blue to black.
It was a challenge to keep submerged without totally dunking the sweatband liner...that liner acted really goofy when wet.
I took the hat out of the container after 30mins....really didn't notice much difference at all. The yellow band changed color...that's about it.
Put it back in, with some more dye...this time, for about 4 hours.
It certainly looks deeper black now, but the sweatband liner is all jacked up now. It turned hard and brittle from getting a little wet...feels like it shrunk a bit too as a result.
I put the emblems back on it and sat it aside.
I have an event scheduled for this weekend so I'll be checking it out this week sometime.
I found a seller on iOffer who makes these hats out of leather/synthetic leather. I made an account real quick and asked he/she if they could make me one with red trim to match my coat.
They said yes, and to the tune of $150 shipped.
Not exactly sure I want to jump just yet...the hat I have might just have to do for a while.
I did take my leather punch tool and punched some airholes under my left armpit. Totally did not like the result and probably won't help the heat one bit...guess I'll find out.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

ohh, I almost forgot.
I am on an interest run in the J/Y; but a buddy here in town was adament about trying his guy to whip me a couple patches this week. I told him I wasn't in a hurry, but go ahead; lemme see what his guy can do.
The other guy who engraved my buckle; he is cutting me a larger diameter hydra logo. I was pondering the notion of making resin shoulder patches since it appears the newly released image of Red Skull gives me the impression the hydra is leather cut-out and stitched to the coat.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Great costume, by the way.
I had the same problem with an East German officer's hat years ago. It was the German grey/green color and I wanted it black. I was afraid to use RIT or other liquid dyes because it was wool and would shrink. I just airbrushed black acrylic over the whole thing in several coats and it worked really well. You might try that if it still isn't black enough.
I'm currently working on a more old school version of Red Skull and hope to have it for DragonCon this year.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Shannon (surely not her real name) contacted me back about the coat I've ordered. They're apparently taking your advice about a new fabric that doesn't smell. I'll post pics when I get it. (3 days more to ship + 10 days shipping?)

Are they doing any changes to the design as well or just the material change?

Mine went out on a Wednesday via Express...arrived at San Francisco...had in hand that Saturday afternoon. I was amazed...yet, I requested the express shipping. Maybe on regular orders, they do something more economical.

Are they doing any changes to the design as well or just the material change?

Troop, did you order a coat yet too?

Re: Red Skull costume progess

I was supposed to be getting express shipping too.

The shipping 10 days was just a guess based on how long other Chinese vendors for bodysuits have taken in the past.

I'm not sure what changes they are making other than the fabric, to be honest. They are shipping the gloves and the collar with the suit at no extra cost which is appreciated.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

Nope Chad I haven't ordered mine yet. Kinda waiting to see this new material. I am going to get one either way but at the moment I am putting together my SS version.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

What material did they change the coat to? I assume decatur's was p-leather, what is it now?

I'd imagine it will still be fake leather or the price will triple.

This came out amazing!

Thanks Keith! Someday, it'd be cool to troop with ya and get our girls together.

I am interested too...to see if they used any of my suggestions and how the new suits look.

Re: Red Skull costume progess

well, the buddy of mine who knows a guy, who knows a girl...yeah..it is Friday and I still have not seen what they can do on embroidery for my shoulder logo.
Oh well.
Next week sometime.
However.
Plan B was to have my laser guy cut a larger logo and see how that would do.
Ummm yea...freaking amazing.
Embroidered patches just got booted on my coat I think.

These are harder to do than my belt buckle was; and the red paint..takes a good while to dry.

Anywhoos...pics :thumbsup

I was thinking the same thing...until I really looked at the real deal:

I am trying to figure out how to get that red trim.
I the real deal above, it looks like the shoulder has a cutout and the red trim was installed while the sleeve was in pieces.

On my coat, right where that little "D-ring" is seen peeking out; holding that strap, you can slide your hand "up inside" the sleeve. It's sort of a pocket the way our China gal made the coat and could work to our advantage somehow...
