QMx & Other New Sonic Screwdrivers Thread

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

There is one Sweeeet MFX sonic on Ebay. It clearly shows the differences and what MFX should have done to nail it.

Out of my price range, If QMX make one like that and affordable, I'll be one happy bunny.

Is that some kind of actual MFX prototype or is that just a regular MFX (1 of 3 :lol:lol:lol) someone polished and repainted and is trying to get 1500.00 for?

If it is an original prototype very cool but if it is just redone (collectors value pretty much destroyed) I think 1500.00 might be a bit steep (although the paint job does look nice). If you are going to go to all that trouble why not just make one from scratch or buy a CT for 1/3 the price that is already painted like that ????

It's more than just a polish and repaint, it looks like some parts have been recut to be more accurate as well. It is a bit steep, though.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

If it fails to go at that price hopefully it will be relisted at a more acceptable price. Some eBay sellers do get the concept of extended negotiation. We'll see.

It does have best offer, which means they don't expect to get the full whack.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

You people are kidding yourselves by thinking or believing that QMx will ever release the Sonic. If they ever do there's a great chance it will go the way of the MFX sonic as a foot note in the history of failed "official" prop replica's.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

the polished mfx was touched up by CT for a customer. If this has already been said, then blame my tired eyes. I can't wait to see if QMX delivers on this one, though I am pleased with my trusty CT ecclestone sonic.:)

Which parts are you referring to? To me it just looks polished and painted. Anyone with a mfx replica and a little elbow grease should be able achieve that look with their mfx in a couple hours.

The description says the CNCed parts of the head were made deeper to make the arms stick more, doesn't it?

What's the word? Gotta keep this thread bumped

Frosty,

News at SDCC for sure, both on the QMx Twitter and the Facebook page.

Oh and, if you read io9.com, you may see details a bit sooner than that ;-) Hypothetically, of course.

Hmm, the discription is down, so I cant see what is said, but I don't remember that. Some of the look of the sonic head is changed when polished. I know this myself from some of the mods I made to my own QMX sonic.

Since I'm one of the unlucky many that won't be at SDCC, I hope we can get info posted here as soon as it is 'officially' released at the con.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Dan is correct, It is just a polished and repainted MFX (possibly took some sand paper to the ridges on the handle to round them off a bit). There simply is not enough material on the MFX sonic head to mill down. I think some poor soul paid a bit for a "MOD" and is trying to recover some money.

The crackle looks too big to me.
The cracks are way bigger than on the original (just from looking at photos).

Since Nick from rubbertoe props has said he is going to be at SDCC (and said he is working on a licensed offering) lets hope we see him at the QMX booth. If he is working on the sonic project all of the accuracy discussions on the QMX sonic are over.

From what I have read they have the original prop maker from Warehouse 13 making the QMX Tesla guns so it is possible they are taking the same route with the Sonic. That would likely drive the price up a bit but it could not possibly be done better if that is the case.

In my opinion they did a great job on the WH13 Farnsworth so I think it is a bit premature to write off the Sonic Screwdriver project (especially with the amount of interest in it). I think they will nail it.

Know what? They all look AMAZING. Of course, so did the David Tennant sonic that they unveiled a YEAR ago and haven't mentioned again since.
These are pictures of prototypes that are (probably) not ready for mass-production. Hopefully at SDCC, they'll give us a solid release date and some pricing. Until then, it's just MFX all over again.
I will say that, from what I can see, the 11 sonic has come a long way from the prototype they showed at last year's SDCC. If there's anything not spot-on about it, I can't see it.
I know I've been rough on QMx, and vocal in my support of CT's skill, but I like a pretty prop. If they actually release this thing before CT gets his out and the price isn't astronomical, I would totally buy it.

But I'm still not holding my breath.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

If they do like they did with the Tesla Gun and just have the Rubbertoe shop make these nothing will compare. They should do it right and make the run small, handmade, and target the collectors that are really serious about accuracy on these props (maybe a signature model from the original prop-maker). It would drive the price up a bit but you would have your "Ultimate Sonic". Lets face it, the originals were hand made one at a time and you are not going to nail that process with something mass produced in China period.

The CT can cover the close enough to carry around in your pocket and make sonic noise at people market, I hope they do this one for the hardcore prop replica collector that is made with the same techniques and materials that was on the show.

Those sonics look amazing, but like jedibugs said, we haven't seen anything on the 10th sonic. Hopefully these will be released soon.
