And i also see several on here referring to these new predators as "bad-bloods". Can we please stop, we were directly told that they aren't some rogue band of psychopath predators. They are a different clan entirely, hence the different physical build. If they were a group of bad blood rogue types then who the hell dropped off the new guys at the end of the movie? And Nolan said that they always return in 3s with new weapons, tactics, armour etc and that some have been killed. There is obviously a clan backing this little hunting experiment and they aren't friendly towards the P1 style pred, lol.

I've heard the idea of the 3 super predators being part of a bad blood clan that created an illegal game preserve. I liked this idea and even made a thought of my own: A group of 3 gets dropped off every season and are studied closely by the mothership lying in the atmosphere. This is also how they are 'sent' to the planet. The new batch of 'game' that get dropped off are also deployed from the mothership. Where do they get the specimens? Smaller cruisers that collect and bring them back to the mothership.
Sorry for going off-topic :p

I think I see where your going with this. Do you mean, for example, in a sports event like American Football. You have the pre-season where teams go against each other to see key weaknesses and strengths and to hone their skill before the actual season starts, where it matter more?

OOOOOOOH some nice reading this morning :p

i think the reboot as said , was meaning more of restarting the Predator franchise.

I mean comon, we all complained so hard about AVP and AVPR, yet they go back and semi stick to the formula that made P1 so good, and some people are still not happy.

I mean people are up in arms about the Mud thing, duuuuuuuuuh!

put it this way, this thing is hunting you , and you are fortunate enough to find out that MUD can mask the beasties ability to find you so easy, as it had previously apparently worked, i ******* double dare anyone here NOT to use it... would we be all, "**** that im not using that guys idea ill cover myself in something else hmmmm."

reminder the pred does not want a cuddle, they want to remove your spine whie you are still breathing lol.

I give in ( not really ;) )

I think the fact that alot of the lair are picking holes in it, is because as i said, we are the sharp end of the fan base, and are uber critical, even when we get a film thats a **** load better than the last 2, people HAVE to find fault with it, as they cannot accept we got a decent flick out of it.

Its all good anyway, i bet we will hear rumours of a sequel in the next 12 months or so.

people starving themselves and gaining weight hmmmm lol.

The mud didn't really matter that much to me. I just thought it was a little redundant seeing as how he set the whole damn place on fire. The flames obviously being waaay over body temp the Pred couldn't have seen hom no matter how hard it tried. I think it would have been nice if they left that little bit of P1 script replay on the cutting room floor and showed that Royce could think for himself.

Isabella could have still told him the P1 plot points but he would have gotten something entirely different from what she was saying. The equations pretty simple: Infrared = Vision Body Heat + Fire = Camouflage These are things that would have made for a slightly better movie.

I'm in no way hating on it. I'll even buy it on blu-ray after a good price drop. I just think there were missed opportunities that could have made this something more than 40% retread.

seriously though, would you TAKE a chance that fire hid you enough? or would you use the mud that just happens to be everywhere to make sure?

did he know fire was enough? i doubt anyone would take the chance. :p

I'll share my thoughts on the movie. I enjoyed the film and will watch it again this weekend. Sure had the feel of the Predator movie thanks to the awesome score and also had humor.

Sure wished they new hunters had more unique weapons but still a decent Predator movie overall. Looking forward to a sequel or another film, this time the main character is a Predator.:p

I loved this movie, and plan to see it again this week. I loved how they used the music that was played during the time of Billy's death in the first film for the fight between the Asian guy and the Predator. It really makes you wish you'd gotten to see a fight scene between Billy and P1.

It was also beautiful that it ended with Long Tall Sally. My buddy and I drove into the theatre lot with that song blasting. A perfect close IMO.

I forsee Arnie making his big screen return soon, since his Governorship here in Cali of over......... Maybe that was his screaming voice we heard in the last scene.... "I'm fawlling out of da choppa!!!!!!!!"

I told a friend that IMO, he was the only thing the new movie was missing. I loved how they even mentioned the original covert op back in 1987.

Is it safe to conclude that now with this 2nd race of Predators in the mix, that the series will keep going?

lol at "fawling out of da choppa ! "

Bring him back then kill him off. at least then they cannot be accussed of copying the original :p

in a word the film was Poor at best.

felt rushed.. lack of imagination ...

I totally disagree on this. Maybe it's because I'm a bonafide Predator fan, but I wanted a glimpse of the Predators earlier on, and was chomping at the bit to see them. It didn't feel rushed to me at all.

The only character I didn't really like much was the guy who was supposed to be executed (the con). I didn't think he could act for crap. But I'm sure the budget on this was tight anyway.

That could probably work, considering how they talk about how the race "evolved". If the P1 pred had any kind of transmitter or log of his expeditions, they would be able to see that Arnold took the pred out, and they could put him on a Predator "Most Wanted Skull" list!

After talking to kit, it seems the best idea now Predators is upon us , is to have a seperate thred where people who have seen the movie can talk freely without worrying about spoiling it for others.
the other 150 odd page thred will remain, as some parts of the globe are not getting the movie until next month, so they can still have a look in the thred without the ending being blurted out. ( which already happend, and the post was removed, another reason why this thred is now here )

anyway, if you have seen it, post away, no need for official reviews really, just our own little collective.

Hope you enjoyed it anyway.

It has been confirmed- I'm going to see it again this Thursday! Woot!

Most of the same people criticizing this movie, will still watch it over and over again as one of their favs. It is human nature to want to put something down in order to be in control. Some are good critiques. Some are just people being people.

The thing is, as predator fans, we can be both overly forgiving as well as critical. I'd really be interested in seeing a parallel thread six months from now with the same folks reviewing the movie after all the fanfare is over. I think peoples opinions will have changed a bit by that point. Again, I gave it a seven to start but marinated over night to an eventual five.

People with negative reviews aren't being asses for the hell of it. These are their personal feelings. Respect that.

Here is the review given by comingsoon.net now I do know that this is where the MEMBER talks about the film, but I'm still working on mine and I saw it opening night.
PREDATORS REVIEW

In other news the financial aspect of the film was not promising for both 20th Century Fox and RR.
"Fox's newcomer Predators, directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez, opened in third place to $25.3 million from 2,669 theaters, averaging $9,479 per theater. The sci-fi action adventure only cost $40 million to produce."

I do. I do. I just think it's funny how some (read "some") people will pick it apart and still watch it 15 times. :p

Caught the 1 am showing Friday night...and loved it. It was a damn good Predator film. Im not gonna pick it apart, it had flaws but, what film doesnt. Im a die hard Predator fan and I thought it did our beloved monster justice. Its the movie that myself as a Predator fan has been waiting for since P2. I will watch it over and over till my DVD player wears out. I hope I can meet RR and shake his hand and tell him thanks for getting it right.

I completely agree Scott, I loved it. What I didn't love though was the dumb bitch that was texting on her phone during the movie. the boyfreind did say sorry and she left to douche her self in the main lobby for over half the movie. then at the end says loudly, and i quote " that was the dumbest movie i have ever seen!". So.... i have come to a decision, if you text or talk on your cell phone during a movie i'm paying to see you will be taking texts from your anal cavity. O I allso thought the predator fight seen at the end was awsome. The P1 or "Classic pred" was amazing, when he was puting his armour on i got goose bumps. COOL AS HELL.

But world wide the film brought in more then the production cost, so it's a win for Fox...just not to the level that they may have hoped for. I still believe that they will do a sequel, Nimrod and Royce [I forget the guys actual name] stated that they would love to return and do another Predators movie. Nimrod is currently tied up writing and directing a movie right now, but he said he will jump at the chance. Look at the movie review on my previous post.

As for another movie in general, in that same review I posted, it states that when Rob Rod wrote this movie in the early 90's, he basically didn't write it as a "one and done" movie. He wrote two or three actual movies that are tied together. So, in a way, I expect to see at least one more.

As for Arnie returning to the Predator series...he was actually picked to do the "Predator 2" movie, but opted out because he didn't like the "city setting". So, thus he didn't do the Predator movie and he went to a new movie series...."Terminator"! This, imo, is a big reason, if not THE reason why we see Danny Clover in the movie. Although I would have preferred to see Mel Gibson in the movie instead of Glover. Gibson is more movable then Gibson and his anger seems more, realistic. Could you imagine Braveheart vs Predator"

So, with saying this about Arnie, I believe he will once his reign as Governor is up. Was he possibly watching this new installment very closely to see how it would do...to see if he would like to have a chance to do it?

Personally I agree with Lee, bring him back and yank his spin out while he's still breathing! He wont get lucky this time....no log to help him out! You can only cheat death once!

Ok, first the rating: 9/10.
Now the explination.
Pros:
The characters we're fantastic as a whole. Royce was believable and a total different kind of "hero." Dutch would never have abandoned his men. Royce rationalized it in a split second. He felt authentic.
The preds looked good overall.
The sword fight was one of the things missing from the first movie.
Loved the mimic action with the dead Cochillo. Very creepy.
The dogs and "falcon" were nice additions to the preds weapon's cache.
Loved LF's character. I honestly didn't think he looked to bad. I mean the guys like in his fifties or sixties I think. I loved the parts when he was talking to himself especially when he was trying to smoke the group out. He says something along the lines of "I can bearly stand living with you how am I supposed to with them..." LOL.
Loved the score, had me giddy as a school girl throughout and I broke out laughing a couple times because of it.
Loved the Goggin's trophy scene. Always thought they (directors) put that off in the distance to far i.e. Jerry from 2 and Billy from 1.
The opening sequence was awesome.
The ending sequence was awesome with a couple exceptions.

Cons:
The captured preds internal jaws never move. The mandibles do but his mouth is always open. Just kinda bugged me.
Wish the sword fight would have had a definative winner. Maybe have Hanzo best the Falconer but then have the Berserker impail Hanzo from behind.
Need more info as to why the two subspecies of preds were both on the planet.
The cgi was pretty weak throughout but since it was limited as a whole it didn't bother me much.
Would have liked a little more background on the characters.
The ship sequence at the end was too vague.
The pred fight should have been longer.
The berserker should have taken more damage from the Topher trap. I mean the guy has like ten pineapple grenades blow up in his face and he doesn't even have a scratch? By that logic Big Dog could still be alive. On a side note, why does everyone persist in calling the pred with the tusks "Tusky" or whatever. LF names hime and it makes sense. He is the dog handler so Big Dog seems to fit well.
The berskers decapitation seems unlikely, considering he has neck armor on. Also, when Royce takes his arm. Not buying it since we had seen only moments before this pred taking a face full of explosives.

Overall though, I loved it. Seen it twice this past weekend and I may go to it again. I am hoping for an extended version on BR or DVD or both.

I would have liked to see a "winner" on that final sword fight run too. Even if afterward the Pred got up and took the Asian guy's head off..

I would have loved to see Falconer win, then be taken out by the classic. C'mon, show the classic some respect!!
