Oblivion (Post-release)

If the cast listed on IMBd is a clue of what to expect... I'm guessing (and I kind of think I read on a rumor site) that Dillinger's son will have a much larger role on this sequel.
It'd be a cool way to tie things up.
Hope they're somehow able to bring Bridges back into it. And I really hope we see a young CG'ed Boxleitner as Tron in it. Maybe even have Alan finally get beamed into te grid... He's been getting ripped off all this time.

I liked it. Oblivion was like this neat little sci-fi package handed to the audience with a bow on top. Suspend disbelief for a couple hours and just enjoy it.

You could say that the Jack-clones would all be flawed because they're still human. Their memory could be wiped, but at the core he'd still be the same person, even though he was cc'd a billion times. :p

Cruise may be a little crazy but I see everything he does. Oblivion is a great, fun, suprising film. Worth my 10 bucks.

I saw the film today with my family, and I was the only one who enjoyed it. LOL...But I really did enjoy it. To the point that I'd say it's the coolest movie I've seen in a very long time. It's definitely not the best movie, but it absoutely had the best visuals/props/sets/costumes, and I liked the story and such quite a bit. I'll forgive the plot holes, because not many sci-fi movies can bride the gap of love story and post apocalypse together, and I think this movie did a decent job of doing so. I'll definitely pick it up on Blu-Ray.

I always say I know I've seen a good movie if I still think about it after a few days.....I'm still thinking about it. I've seen the new Iron Man film & loved it, but it has been logged and filed away in the 'seen, liked & will buy the blu-ray' filing cabinet of my brain.....but Oblivion is still sitting being processed.

I am in the camp that liked Prometheus, it does have flaws which I acknowledge, but overall I loved the film.

I think it's the drive for practical effects, which Kosinski also strived for.

I'm a huge Original Trilogy Star Wars fan & I really do hope that the new Episode VII will opt for practical effects where possible.

Saw it last night and woke up and read all seven pages of discussion here.
I loved it. I think many people here knew too much about the film before seeing it. I was shocked by some of the plot twists.
I saw the trailer but avoided any discussion on the film.
I saw the holes in the plot, but it was for the sake of having a movie. "Why do they use clones to repair..." because that is what the movie is about.
Why would the alien come to earth? Because that is what the movie is about.

It is a great story. Great visual. Very exciting. I really felt for the people. (except for Morgan, he was mis-cast). I think the references to "Moon", 2001, the Jetsons are all insignificant. I think the Hal "eye" was a tribute as was the Independence Day Opening.

IMO, we don't get enough good SciFi films. This is a good one. I can't wait to see it in IMAX if it's not too late.
Also, is there an x-rated alternate ending where he lives in the glass pool house with both ladies?

Saw this a couple of weeks ago, & sprung for an IMAX viewing because I read that the IMAX screen displays content, in this movie, that "regular" screens crop out (don't know if that's really so, OR if that's true of ALL films in IMAX vs. standard). Anyway, I was very happy with this film. Visually stunning, GREAT soundtrack, & good story (even with the plot-holes).

I watched a making-of/featurette on YouTube, & was impressed at the number of practical effects that were used. (Awesome how they accomplished the scenery around the main characters' living space)

HOWEVER, there was one weird thing that I had to try REALLY hard to ignore, because it would sort of snap me out of the whole "experience" every time I saw it. Being a shooting enthusiast myself, Tom Cruise looked extremely awkward/uncomfortable holding that rifle left-handed (like a righty being forced to fire lefty, without much practice doing so). If that's so, I'm wondering about the reasoning behind that choice.

Oh, & Olga Kurylenko. <3 her furiously.

<3 I says.

SO weird. I felt exactly the same way. It looked intentional. Maybe to contrast him with a soldier. He is a mechanic.
Thanks for posting.

i saw it in cinemark xd

even though i enjoyed it....i thought it was a complete ripoff of Moon with Sam Rockwell....

it seems like they took the story from Moon and build upon it with a huge budget......

Oblivion = Moon (+huge Budget) + matrix + a few other sci fi films

im really getting tired of hollywood recycling the same **** and trying to sell it to the audience....

rarely do we see an original film in theaters....im getting tired of paying for the same story over and over

I believe that Josepeh Kosinski was paying homage to a number of sci-fi films.
Also, aren't most things recycled now? Ideas playing on the same ideas...
But I did tally up all the movies that it referenced, in my opinion, as I was watching it.

Father--By Zuse do you mean 70's David Bowie? ;)

Everyone has their own opinion; not trying to convince anyone that mine is any better than anyone else's. But I like Tom Cruise and his unbelievable legacy of work. Tom and I are close to the same age and in a way, we've grown up together. (We're on a first name basis! :p) He has grown dramatically as an actor and has a lot going on beneath the surface which makes him very watchable and believable in any role he assumes.

He has shined in some of my favorite films, "Far and away;" "Jerry Macguire;" "Knight and Day;" "The Last Samurai;" "A few good men;" "Minority report:" "Rain Man;" and "Jack Reacher." So, for a Tom Cruise fan, this movie is awesome.

My wife and I just saw it for the third time, the first two times being in IMAX. This is definitely a big screen movie, and we'll miss that aspect when watching it at home in the future.

What struck me this viewing was the fact that this wasn't a "constant action" film: it didn't have the "machine gun editing" like we see in so many films out there today. (Also, no nausea-cam!:thumbsup)

The look of the film, the sets, realistic CGI, the weapons, and clothing were all so realistic and believable. I loved the white, grey and black design of everything.

We like films that have a bit of everything in them, sort of like life; action, friendships, challenges, conflict, emotion, love, honor, dignity, and loyalty. This film had it all and then some!

:thumbsup :thumbsup !!!!!!!!!!

So freaking cool !!

Comic-Con Meets Oblivion in a New Piece of Exclusive Art | Superhero Hype

Oblivion Comic-Con Exclusive Art

"The Joseph Koskinski sci-fi film set for release on DVD and Blu-ray August 6, Universal Pictures' Oblivion has revealed a special piece of Comic-Con inspired artwork that features the San Diego Convention Center in ruins. Designed by Andree Wallin, the film's concept illustrator, you can check out the image below.

Specially commissioned for this year’s convention, the image will be available as limited edition tote bags and handed out daily at the Geek magazine booth (#4014) with a special code word available via Geek magazine’s Twitter account."

That really is cool! Been attending the Con every year for long as I can remember; this is the first year we won't be going and I'm afraid I'm really going to miss it!

What a great piece of artwork especially for local San Diegans!

The Blu-ray is released this next week. There are multiple versions. Target, Walmart, and Best Buy have different offerings. The Target version has a concept art book along with the two discs, while Best Buy has a three disc version. The Walmart edition is just the Blu-ray/DVD combo, with nothing special.

Has anyone seen the small concept art book? If the images are already on the interwebs, I'm thinking the three-disc version is best.

The concept art does seem to all be out there, at least when you find it, it's all the same. Though very nice.

Does anybody know what the third disc from best buy has on it? I looked quickly but didn't see any details.

Also, it's next week, right? Aug 6, at least in the US.

On a DVD forum I saw:

Best Buy 3 Disks
Target, Holo Packaging, Concept Sketch Book
Walmart Metal Package, but not the more cool metal package from Canada / UK.
Amazon, nothing extra

I canceled my Amazon order and plan to get the Best Buy set.

I want the concept art, so Target is my buying focus. I was disappointed that an "Art of" book wasn't released for Oblivion like Tron.

What is supposed to be on the 3rd Disc anyway?
