Hello,

I have been into cyberpunk fiction/culture since the mid 1990's and Bladerunner was always one of my favorites but I never get into creating anything inspired by it until after Bladerunner 2049 came out.

Now I'm working on many projects that are all inspired from the Bladerunner universe. My goal is to make replica props that are practically usable for my own needs.

I found this forum while trying to find the dimensions of the Film Holder notepad thing that K used to fill out a report in Bladerunner 2049. I'm currently working on designing one that I can comfortably used for notes in my workshop/office.

I'm also working on making my office and car very much Bladerunner inspired, but in-universe styled, not just inspired by the movies. My car is a 2013 Scion xB that I'm slowly modding to look like it's owned by a character in the Bladerunner universe that is anti-corporation and pro-replicant. I even made a bumper sticker with a fictional grassroots organization.

I'm glad to join this forum and meet others that are passionate about similar things as me

As a tech expert reporter and producer on live Canadian television and radio, the latest gadgets are my props, but ever since the days of Master Replicas meant I could do a live lightsaber battle on Canada AM I’ve keenly watched this space thrive and have become a replica collector too. I got to interview prop master James “Jimmy Claws” Gawley and see all his prototype Wolverine claws (and wear them too). I love hearing about how props are made and am excited at how affordable this collection hobby has become for my audience. What HasLab is doing is incredible and seeing professional prop makers sell copies of their work as a side hustle is wild fun.

I'm Artemis! I'm joining this forum because I'm hoping to join the Misty Mountain Rangers cosplayers, and I'm excited to get back into costuming.
I'm currently going to be working on a Rangers of Ithilien outfit, but also looking at Dunedain ranger and Riders of Rohan.

Other projects I've worked on include several renaissance faire characters, Danaerys Targaryen, a few cool steampunk outfits, The Witch King, some flower fairies, and Toph from Avatar. I've dabbled a little bit in leatherworking, but so far the only armor I've done is foam. I also paint minis for DnD. Aerospace engineer in real life.

Hello Everyone,

I'm Adam, I recently got into 3d modeling and printing and have now set out on my journey of making a prop replica of Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa)'s Particle Magnum from Stargate Atlantis (pictured in pfp). It is one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi blasters, There have been some castings from the hero prop that have sold in the past, but I want to model and make my own from scratch with working electronics, lights and sounds from the show.

I'm looking forward to post my progress and problems and hopefully get some advice and tips from more experienced prop makers.

Real, fake, things I like: Material accurate restrikes of significant, rare and ancient coins (real) and some bills, books etc, art forgeries especially if they are modified (so not forgeries but it sounds so much more fun and a caper to call them that over reproductions), real stock certificates and replicas of the rarer ones. old telex/western union/tape machines. Any numismatists, fictional or real (the money, only real people please) on here? I want to create fauxthentic restrikes but not setup yet. 2025 goals.

Fake-fake things I like (props): Any good MacGuffin, like a sports Almanac (especially if we fill it with real stats, was it filled with real stats? is there a word for such prop-augmentation where you add fan-favorite content to a prop to add to its object-of-interest value?), the real maltese falcon (the Kniphausen Hawk) would like a replica of the Kniphausen Hawk. Identity cards, passports in movies. I like watches/glasses in movies, and clothes in general. But they're Real fake fake things?

Still exploring but too many times I've been on here and thought "I should join". well here I am.

Had to edit: National Treasure, the prop glasses, I love them.

Hello,

After lurking here for only about 10 years (give or take), I’ve finally decided to make a post.

Short backstory:
Watching Star Trek: TNG for the first time in the early 1990s as a small kid planted a deep love for Star Trek in my heart—one that’s lasted a lifetime.

And…

Back in the 1990s, I spent every summer at my aunt’s house. That’s where I met an older boy who was into modeling and prop building. He even had a small workshop in their old, abandoned garage. And wow—spaceships, RC planes, TMNT nunchucks and katana, a Rambo knife, batarangs… it was all there.

Inspired, I started building my own props—paper tricorders, communicators, wooden PADDs, papercraft models of my favorite scenes from movies… Childhood at its best!

Now, many years later, armed with knowledge and proper tools, I’m happy to continue chasing my childhood dream by building props for fun.

I’d love to know your thoughts on a situation I recently found myself in

So, I’ve been contemplating making a replica metal sai set using my production stunt sai from the elektra movie as a basis to design from (reverse engineered essentially) I mentioned it in a few prop groups on Facebook and the main consensus is that most people are angry/annoyed i would even consider this because it could cause their props value to decrease. For those that buy, make and sell replica props what’s your thoughts and feelings on this and what are your work arounds?

For reference I’ll include the WIP of the sai currently in design and the prop I’m using to reverse engineer it off due to a 3D scan.

Worse case scenario here I don’t end up going down the replicating route however I will still be looking at making a set just for my own collection

Hi, welcome to the RPF!

While recasting (making a cast of an already cast replica) is looked down upon in the hobby, I don't believe replicating an existing production prop has ever been a bad thing!

Sure, recasting is a form of theft of someone else's work, but what you're doing really feels much more like propagating something unique, and everyone benefits.

I for one love it, and look forward to seeing how the rest of your project works out. I say screw the perceived "collector" values. That's like saying all collectibles should be as limited edition as possible, so as to maximize value for those who didn't miss out. It is this kind of thinking and a desire for scarcity that endangers the prop collecting hobby as a whole. The more people replicating props, The more we all benefit!

Hi all,

Been lurking as a visitor for quite a while now, figured I might as well pull the trigger and create an account.

I've mostly been into building scale models and dioramas, but I've also built bigger things like props from games in the past. Currently working on building a new airbrush booth so I can continue messing about during the winter without having to sit in the cold and damp toolshed, and was looking for people's experiences on here regarding that.
