Re: The Official New User Introduction Thread

    Howdy!

I figure I should dust off this thread since registration is open again.

I found out about this site through browsing for Jurassic Park stuff on yourprops.com back in the beginning of February which I think was just after therpf registration closed heh. So for about 2 1/2 months I was looking up all sorts of props and the next thing I knew I had blown about 10 grand on various collectibles in less than 3 months. My savings account is really hurting right now lol

I don't know anything about building props but I sure as hell like to buy them! My first prop was Narsil, back when the FotR came out. Then around 9 years later I now have a Sauron gauntlet... and that led me to a Samaritan, and that led me to an E11, then an endoskull, then a Fallout 3 quantum drink, a district 9 aluminum humans-only sign, some T-Virus/anti-virus vials, an EVE hypo and now a district 9 arc reactor.

So I guess you could say I've been doing some reckless spending and I need to calm down. I'll just keep telling myself I can stop anytime I want to...anytime....no problem....right....gotta keep telling myself that...

There are some very talented people on this forum and I'm just really glad to now be able to watch all of your amazing projects from start to finish.

    Hello all.

I found out about this forum by searching for various Sonic screwdriver props on the 'net - found the contest - and had to register and enter the contest. Thankfully the first day of registration coincided with the closing date of the contest so I made it by the skin of my teeth! I really enjoyed designing and building it too. Takes me back to my youth.

When I was a teenager I wanted to make props and models for a living, and I was always making sci fi props with flashing blinking lights to play with, but I ended up doing sound effects for TV post. But I've had and am having fun and success with that. I've done a few Sci Fi shows and they are the best to work on, nothing like creating something new from scratch.

Great forum with nice, helpful and friendly posts. I look forward to my future on these boards.

    Hey Everyone,
I'm Chris, originally from England, now living out in sunny California with my wife and little girl. There's not really much to say, I signed up because this seems like a community full of fantastic people and completely awesome talent.

I've never made props but I've always been interested in them (especially after lurking around here for a few months) and hope to start little projects over the next few months. Made a few paper props in photoshop in the past but that was on my old computer back home in the UK. The holy grail prop for me would be the 10th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver. It's just so gorgeous. Love that show so much.

I recently started making an Iron Man mark III suit using pepakura files so once I get more done I'll open a thread or something and post pictures. So far I've only got the helmet, bicep and shoulder pepped, I'll be working on the chest piece today too.

Any who, I hope to stick around here for a good while and get to know everyone :D

So did I, I think it was literally the day after the registrations closed :lol

Once again so did I haha. Then not long after finding the screwdriver threads the custom sonic contest was started.

    Hello Everyone,

I must say Im very happy to finally be a member of this great board. I found it about a month or two ago when I was looking for Haunted Mansion Jurassic Park and Hook props and somehow i stumbled on here and ended up spending hours just bouncing from post to post reading all of the interesting techniques people have come up with to recreate iconic movie/tv props. Over the years Ive collected tons of misc movie items and various other collectibles but my main obsession is "Disneys Haunted Mansion" (the ride not the movie). I have tons of various collectibles ranging from the common (shirts and postcards) to the rare (an actual butler costume from the ride). I've always been interested in making props but i always felt whatever I would create would never reach the standards but i think this board may help inspire me to approach prop building with alittle more confidence.

Theres so much talent on this board and I hope to get to know everyone here.

I am Brutus... otherwise known as Das Brutus. Don't let the "Das" fool you... I'm Scottish, not German.

I've been propping now for about a year. Having started on the 405th building my Spartan suit from paper to mold to casting it up out of Flex Foam-it and plastic.

    Costumes:

    Halo:
Recon / ODST / Reach Spartan
    ODST

    Star Wars:
Biker Scout (as of yet unfinished)
    Manalorian Shadow Trooper
Royal Commando (as of yet unfinished)

    Future Builds:
    Predator
    Gears of War
    WarHammer 40k Space Marine
    Cletus, the NFL Robot

Being a larger built person, I try to choose costumes that will not look to "chub-chub" when worn, so my options are limited since I seem to always look like a football player in armor.

    Well, thats me... 'nuff said

    Hey everyone!

This is the first forum I have ever joined (for more than just asking for help with something that is). I am incredibly excited to be apart of this particular one. I mean who wouldn't be, being a huge fan of movies and art and all. Not to mention, I have always viewed movies for more that what most of my friends watch them for. I don't just go for the entertainment and enjoyment of a watching a movie (although I love going to the movies). I watch to see what people create out there, the props, the make-up, and the costumes. And their attention to detail! It is incredible!

Being from Hawaii I have always felt sheltered from this stuff (no studio that I know of here, not to mention hobby stores close down left and right). But this site definitely helps me see some of the amazing things out there. There are amazing stuff that people post on this site. And I am excited to be apart of it. I am looking into making some prop replicas of my own, but I don't really know how to go about them. Plus I can't seem to find the time being in school and all.

Anyway it's nice to be apart of this community.

(P.S. Sorry about my grammar... )

    Hi Everyone,

I'm Justin Kirkwood, and I joined primarily to meet other people who are interested in imaginary products, companies, and brands from films & television. I run a blog on the subject called Not a Real Thing, which is about three months old. I was referred here by a talented guy named Gus Weber who I corresponded with when getting the site off the ground.

I've only created one prop replica so far - an Atari 5200 Cloak & Dagger cartridge from the film of the same name. Now, I just have to find where to post it!

I look forward to getting geeky with you all. Feel free to message me any time if you've created a prop replica that may be relevant to my site, and would like another medium in which to share it.

    Best regards,
    Justin Kirkwood

    Hello from Branson, MO!!!
An old friend of mine recently sent me a link to this website and I have been addicted to it 24/7! LOVE the models (especially the scratch built ones) I have been a model builder since early 80's. Built planes, trains, automobiles and space ships. I hope to make one from scratch myself one day!

    Howdy!

I've been lurking here and there for the past few months, waiting until the day I could register and see what the big fuss was all about.

I've always been a big fan of costuming and last year I started on the road to putting together a Biker Scout costume which is almost done by now. It's like a drug, though. My next project will be to put together a Cobra Viper costume and someday, in the future, I'll build myself a Warhammer Space Marine get-up.

Yeah it great that I've finally gotten around to registering.

    I have the usual replicas, including but not limited to;

    TK (FX) Stormtrooper Armour
    E-11 Blaster (Resin)
    DL-44 Blaster, Greedo Killer (Resin)
Light Saber, Luke's ANH (genuine Graflex)
    Light Saber, Vader(ish) ANH (Heiland)
Light Saber, Custom short handled (Heiland)
    Droid Caller (genuine Kobol)
Colonial Warrior Costume complete w/helmet, pistol and belt (still need boots)
    Robocop's Auto 9
    Narsil
    Gold Cloak Pin (Original LOTR)

I have tons of crap that doesn't come to mind at the moment... but my job does expose me to a lot of greeblies, so I should start scratch building some interesting stuff. (eventually)

    Hi everyone,

Let me introduce myself. I'm Lorna from Scotland. I'm a big Star Wars and Dr.Who fan and a love for most things Sci-fi. I'm married with a beautiful daughter who is a great excuse for playing with toys. I have recently made an Audrey II and the internet from the IT crowd but I am pretty new to prop making but glad to be on-board with those in the know and hope to develop my skills and make some cool looking props. I used to costume with the UKG as a stormtrooper (FX armour) but no longer active, I'm to busy enjoying staying at home and playing mum, and dreaming up what prop to make next.

Anyway it's nice to meet you all, and thanks for having me on-board.

Hello, new to the boards but been a big scifi and fantasy movie, book/storyfan for many years. Also very big fan of the special effects and props made and used. I have hardly no props but I hope to change that soon, I own a CNC mill I built myself from scratch (no plans) a lathe I hope soon to turn into a CNC controlled unit. and a ton of other tools some I bought as they are, some I have modified for specific purposes and some I made from scratch because no such tool existed before. I make goggles and leather masks with the only plastic I use in the goggles being the transparent colored lenses and some mirrored lenses made of lexan *polycarbonate* (bullet proof glass is made of this) and lucite *acrylic*

    How y'all doing folks!

After a wait of what felt like years I finally made it onto these fabled forums and I've been having a ball going through all the old threads and have once again got the modelling bug back and now just have to decide what I'm going to tackle(without the other half realising what I' up to:love:love).

I'm a member of the UK.Garrison (part of the worldwide 501st) and am the proud owner of an Imperial Royal Guard costume and I am also one of only four Original series Cylons in the UKG.

Am currently just about to start a Senate Guard(actually I'm not doing a darn thing) once a couple of extremely talented ladies in the UK have the time to start the helmet and the soft parts of the costume..

Now!I have an ice cold beer and I'm going to spend the next couple of hours going through the forums to see some of the fantastic work you folk have come up with.

    Hey there everyone,
My name is Tim and I've been collecting replica props from horror movies for most of my life if you count the crappy freddy gloves from back in the day lol. A few years back I got into screenused stuff. I'm mainly into Rob Zombies H1 and H2. I've had many Myers masks but the one below is far and away the best one I've found its called "Unearthed"

sorry bout the links to my site, I was more or less showing off my skills as I collect those :D
(skills I mean on the collecting thing)

hopefully I can change that soon as I want to make things that I get to keep. and unfortunately right now that is only the top hat some cloths (like the vest and leather pembroke collar and red pants I made) and my goggles. (if you look at the youtube videos you will notice something strange about the reflection of the light off of them. I did this on purpose to mimick the lenses of Doctor Steels goggles. so they sort of are replicas of his prop goggles. I hope to add my own custom sonic screw driver soon (with a 3 watt blue luxeon) and see if I can not hide a real screw driver in there some where or maybe a USB flash drive ;)

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello! I've been waiting for the registration for some time. Yay I finally get to post!

I found this forum when I was looking up references to the Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland costumes. I loved them so much that I wanted to make them :) That thread in the costume forum was VERY helpful and I loved reading about people's progress and I absolutely love that everyone tries to help each other become better and learn.

I don't have pictures to show, I haven't made costumes in a long time. I'm very much a manga/anime/game/comics type of person so most of the things I'll do will involve that. I made a costume about 8-9 years ago which was the human form of Luna from Sailormoon which was just a yellow dress with some netting underneath, pretty simple.

Oh! So also, I like how much time and effort the people take to get costumes and props to be as accurate as possible. I am a perfectionist so every little detail really gets me! I'm always fussing about stuff! So although I didn't make many costumes, I have a pretty good ability in sewing since I took classes for 10 years while I was a kid. But I don't wear anything, I just love creating stuff!

Anyhow, I hope to contribute, I don't know what I can do for others, but everyone here seems pretty awesome. I'm also interested in learning about how to cast resin... wanted to make gemstones :/ I'm interested in making jewelry too but it seems expensive.. I have learned silver clay though.

I'm pretty new to prop collecting and making. This side provided great inspiration and "I need this" feelings :lol. In my collection are only a few pieces, mostly Indiana Jones Stuff, but I hope it will grow. A few pieces are on my "to-do list" and the "I want to buy list". I'm looking forward to share pictures of them with you.

    Hi everybody!

I'm originally from Northern California and have been living and working in Japan for some time. I'm most active in the 1:6 scale community, but I've been into 1:1 scale stuff for many years, esp. military uniforms and equipment. I'm also a loooong time sci fi fan, so this seems like the perfect place for me.

While I'm mostly into prop collecting these days rather than prop building, (due to time constraints), over the past year I've been assembling an Aliens US Colonial Marine costume, which is one of the reasons I decided to join this forum. I also have plans to build a Rollerball and a Mad Max costume in the near future.

My hobby interests are varied and so is my current collection. Once I've had time to learn my way around the forum, I'd like to share some pics of a few of my favorite pieces with anyone who'd like to have a look.

    Cheers! :cheers

Hello everyone. I'm glad to finally be an official member of the community.

I have been following the forums for quite some time. I'm not a prop maker, per se, but I have always had an interest in movies and the way things are made. I am in complete awe of the members work and, hopefully one day, I will be able to add to the amazing works found here

    Hello fellow RPF members!

Must say I’m amazed by the artistry, craftsmanship and research poured into the props seen on this board. Personally, my interest falls mostly with props seen in Universal Horror, Golden Age Horror, and 50s Sc-Fi and Horror films.

    Happy to be onboard!

    Greetings to all.
Thanks to the heads up from my associate Jaws68, I am now a member.
I am a collector of prop weapons and antique relics from a wide range of sci-fi and adventure /fantasy films. Worked in the Special Make-up Effects industry for almost 10 years. I have seen some amazing craftsmanship here and look forward to making some great contacts. Very happy to be aboard. Thanks!
