Hi all! I've been checking this website out for the last couple of weeks and thought I'd finally post on the intro thread. I'm mostly here for making my Dragon*Con costume for this year. I have 2 1/2 months for a really ambitious project of building a full Samus (Metroid) costume (using Worbla and Wonderflex). And I'm looking to do a post-apocolyptic rendition of Harley Quinn with my male friend as Joker. Or I might just go as might default costume as a zomie.

I'm trying to avoid using pep, but I might have to for my helmet, because sculpting and slush casting will take up too much time and money. Also, I have a Green Goblin helmet ready for silicone/plastipaste, I'm just putting it on hold until I can save up $350 to cast it.

I've been doing special fx makeup for over a year now...mostly just learning the craft and materials (hense my default zomie costume) and building up my workshop.

Hey folks, new guy from north Texas. New to the prop build thing, just looking for ideas and advice on how to proceed. Robert is my name.

Hi there, as may of you I've been chekin' the forums for a few months and every great work of you fans and prop makers just got me in the mood for some building myself, I've done some Halo helmets in the past with pepakura and fibreglass, but now I'm doing some Batman cowls and Adventure Time props, I'll share them in the forums hopin' to get some advice and all kinds of coments.
Greeting from Mexico, keep up the nice work.

Hey dudes, I'm an amateur prop maker who's been self learning roughly for the past two years. I first got started on making props after watching an Indy Mogul video explaining how EVA FOAM works, and later while figuring out how insulation foam on wood glue works. I found out about these forums while I was talking to a Space Balls cosplayer at Origins this weekend and realized that there's so much more to learn. I want to improve my skills 10-fold, but I'm so nervous to ask many of you veterans, fearing I might ask a really rhetorical question.

Hello, from South Africa. We don't get too much cosplay this side of the globe.

Been trying to make a few costumes myself, found this site most helpful and now have just signed up.
I made an imperial guard outfit and a sub zero outfit, now with LOADS of help am trying to make a amazing spiderman 2 outfit.
Hard work, wish me luck...

Hello all....been lurking on the Solo blaster builds for awhile and figured it was time to introduce myself.
Living & Working in Chicago, interested in the SW builds. Looking forward to a soon to happen DL-44 build.

Cheers to all the creativity and ingenuity here!

Hey guys,

I've been on here a while, but I guess I never introduced myself. My name's Dan from Canada. I don't know the first thing about making props/costumes, but hopefully I'll learn soon. I just put together a batman returns costume (and by put together I mean, all I did was glue it to the undersuit), and wore it at a convention for a little while, but it needs work and might be impractical to bring to fan expo in august, so I'm going to be putting together a snake costume from mgs3, I'm going to start a thread for that costume's progress. Wish me luck :)

Aloha! I'm becca and I live in Hawaii, and I've been in costuming amateurly for the past 6-8 years. Only in the past four have I given any serious time into it, creating princess dresses mostly. I have a budding interest in special effects/prosthetic makeup, hopefully will be going to school for it soon. I'm heavily into Mass Effect and look to build a portfolio from making costumes from it! I look forward to exchanging tips and tricks as well as encouragement and congratulations soon. :)

Hello Everyone!

My name is Jessie.. found this through google (of course).

I'm currently getting into props and prop making, total newbie, but looking at the work so far is AMAZING. So I'm mostly just here to enjoy everyone's work and learn from some great people!

Hey all, friend brought me onto the site, can't believe I didn't know about this sooner. Well, looking forward to many posts and lots of experiments!

Hello~

I go by Tess and live in Az. I used this site to help get information on my Rescue/WW2 Cap cosplay and am very grateful. It blows me away what you guys are capable of creating and I hope to learn so much more while hunting through threads. Thanks in advance for any help and for posting your lovely tutorials!

Hello all

I go by winterwildchild. From San Francisco.

I have over 5 years of cosplaying under my belt.

Have slowly inched towards making more and more of my own props and costumes.

And have been reading and studying the boards for quite a while as well.

Hi there,

My name is Nicole and I've been sewing and costuming since about age 10, and have always been heavily influenced by historical clothing.
I also go by the stage name of Vienna La Rouge, and some just know me as "V".
I've lived in California's bay area for the past 6 years (originally from Seattle).
Right now I'm gearing up for my first Dragon Con, and stumbled upon this forum while searching for tips on how to fade and weather fabrics.
Among other costumes under construction, I'm currently replicating Lagertha's season 2 battle costume from Vikings, complete with all the chainmaille and leather bits.
You can read more about my various sewing/cosplay/costuming adventures over at my sewing blog; The Austrian Woman, but I hope to also share my experiences here while making this, and future con costumes. I figure that if I need any advice with this Lagertha project, this might be a good place to ask ;-)
Hope to see some of you at Dragon Con!

Hey folks,

I've been using this forum to help build a few of my marvel costumes of the last year or so. Everyone on here has been beyond helpful and quite encouraging. I'm a huge Captain America fan, and once i finally have all the accurate details finished on my costumes, i'll start posting photos and build shots.

Hailo! Not sure why I didn't think to come on here before... I don't have a lot of props myself, but I've a chipped cup from Once Upon A Time that I purchased for my own Belle last Christmas (I RP @AnotherMrGold on Twitter, and my Belle and I have since married in RP, moved in together in RL, and are planning a RL #Rumbelle wedding as well...) but I also knit and crochet for my Etsy shop (ladyslupe13.etsy.com) and presently have a Watson "Too English" Scarf from Sherlock Homles: A Game of Shadows and Harry Potter house scarves on my Etsy, and also have a Henry Mills scarf from Once Upon a Time and custom Minion plushies from Despicable Me in the works for being posted on there as well. I also make Jayne hats from Firefly (but they won't let me post it any moooooooores! Which makes me sad, because Jayne hats and Ravenclaw scarves are my two best sellers) and I've a fifth Tom Baker (Season 14, I think) scarf in the works. I don't even post those, they usually get paid for and claimed before I finish them, hehehe.

Let's see... I've dabbled a little in homemade snow globes (which are actually rather difficult to make, I'll have you know) and a bit of haberdashery. The hats are actually one of my favourite crafts, but the buckram canvas and milliner's wire are rather pricey craft supplies, so I usually only make those on request, so I don't have a lot of experience with them. I've also done some hand sewing plushes, and one of my other works-in-progress is a Westerosi Mother's Prayer Wreath from Game of Thrones. I'm making each doll by hand out of knit, so it's incredibly tedious. Not exactly screen accurate, but I'd like to think that a mother could make one from string if that was her better medium. Yes, no?

I've also had some Candy Crush coasters buzzing around in my head, but I'd like to not buy myself more plastic canvas. It always ends up just sitting in my closet... And I've gotten rid of my beads, and I'd like to KEEP it that way. I also had a rather failed line of amigurumi My Little Pony dolls, because I couldn't quite figure out a good way to make horns and wings and cutie marks to scale that didn't look terrible. Because I'm a perfectionist. And I have a thing about crafting my creations in one piece, when possible. I make my dolls from the feet up, I don't like sewing things together when I could craft it as a whole given enough forethought, and most of my patterns are made from scratch, so anyone who accuses me of stealing patterns is going to get a grumpy crocodile. Obviously, some aren't -- I use the S14 Doctor Who scarf pattern from DoctorWhoScarf.com, for instance, but the Henry Mills & Watson scarves are eyeballed (and I make my Watson scarf at 8+ feet long, because Jude Law is a tall bugger!) and the Harry Potter scarves are a pretty basic 30-4-4-4-30 stripe pattern. But I use the OLD colour schemes, from when she FIRST put out the little badges back in book 2, because I'm a very, very, VERY old scarhead and cling stubbornly to the original colour schemes. Also, I just think lemon-scarlet and goldenrod-royal blue just pop nicer. And all of the Ravenclaws who buy that scarf tell me they like it better too, so... Yeah. I tend to go for what I consider most handsome. I try to stay close, but... Like, my Who scarf? I don't use that weird orange-red colour, I actually have a scarlet. I do it in scarlet, coffee, bluff tan, golden rod, forest green, orchid purple, and a heather grey. It's not screen accurate, but it's definitely recognisable, but I can always be more accurate if you like. Damned thing comes out at 16 feet long (BEFORE a foot of fringe on either side) and I had one customer tell me it was more a blanket than scarf! And my Jayne hats are a goldenrod, carrot, scarlet, and I give people the option of wanting the inside out ear muffs or not (because some people don't!), and I like to do a 3-strand plaint for the "danglies". And I don't always stress the pompom into a fuzzy ball, although I have the tools for it.

So I'm crafty. I've gotten to the point where my hands get twitchy if I'm not doing something. And generally, I'm either typing (I roleplay, as I said, or else I'm working on one of my original works, of which I have too many and none published) or doing something with yarn. I have three feet of Doctor Who scarf in my lap at present, hehehe. And TweetDeck. Yes, I'm a bit addicted to Twitter. I have no one to blame but myself.

Helloooooo!!!
I have been lurking here for a little while and decided to sign up. I work in the prop making and product development industry. We often take on new unique projects and I'm excited to be here to discuss and learn.

Hi everyone.

Very happy to have found an amazing forum like this. As a big Star wars fan looking on here had inspired me to have a go at making my very first Pepkura Stormtrooper helmet.

Ive never even done anything like this before but I am enjoying the challenge and I find it a nice escape from everything. Its at the bondo stage at the moment but still a long way to go.

Cant wait to learn more.

Thanks for having me here:thumbsup
