Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi Everyone, My name is Mike. Been reading through the site the past few months, looking for inspiration and tips. Started doing model-making at a young age, then Found out I really liked stuff lit up with LED's and such. I work as a custom refurbisher which has given me so many other skills, such as bondo work, wood, staining and welding. I really love welding. Been busy with several projects like creating LED effects for the Pittsburgh Superhereo BurghMan burghman01.jpg
as well as Pro Wrestling championship belts, done in both plastic and cold-cast
001.JPG
as Pro Wrestling has been a long-time love of mine, even up to welding together wrestling rings. After seeing the Hobbit, I feel I absolutely must make a Dwarven sword, both in plastic and foam. I loved LOTR as well but I really like the dwarf stuff alot. So when I have time I really want to make some fun stuff

Thanks
Mike the IronDrake

Hey everyone!

My name is Chris and I live in the US. I was a lurker for a several months and admittedly after watching a marathon of Adam Savage Videos from Tested.com he kept mentioning how he'd find great pieces or pieces for projects he had going on the JunkYard in the RPF I decided to finally join the site. I've always had a passion and love for Props and Prop replicas specifically Sci-Fi and Fantasy. I wish I had found this place sooner! Lurking the last few months I've seen a great community and lots of talented folks working and producing some great stuff! Lots of inspiration and information for a newbie like myself!

Chris

Greetings! My name is Paul, and I am a line-chef in San Antonio, Texas. I'm a huge fan of the Steampunk genre, and of the Half-Life and Borderlands game series'. I just ran across this website a day ago and couldn't have been more pleased. There is a lot of knowledge and advice I can avail myself of here, and I look forward to talking to many of you both in fun, and in asking advice.

I haven't build anything yet, but I started with an Iron Man costume this weekend (Mk42)! I am interested in a lot af things and genres and I love DIY stuff!

Well about me.. I am greece and live and work in germany as an mechanical engineer. Besides the Iron Man costume I've startet to build my own 3D printer based on the Eventorbot design. Well, that's it for now! :)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone!

I'm Sarandi - I got back into making models/props/etc. a few months ago after semi-abandoning it through early adulthood. Found RPF while doing some research on styrene building technique and have been lurking around since then.

I'm really into sci-fi & fantasy themes but appreciate great craftsmanship regardless of the style. My day job is graphic designer / web developer but I really love using my hands to make things. Into woodworking, sculpting, electronics, costuming, upholstery, writing, and performing standup comedy.

I've found so many great projects on here and learned gobs of great technique. Looking forward to seeing more and contributing in the weeks to come. Hoping to try out vacuum forming and various types of mold-making and casting soon.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone. I'm David (Never Dave :) ) and I've been a longtime lurker and decided it was time to join in on the fun.
I'm into all sorts of things, but so far my collection consists of some Doctor Who stuff (my favorite!), a few UC LOTR swords, some Ghostbusters stuff, and some Warehouse 13 stuff.
In the future, I'm hoping to build onto some of those collections, but I'd also like to make and/or acquire myself a Flux Capacitor, some Avengers stuff (like some of the awesome Cap shields I've seen on here) and maybe start a little Supernatural collection as well (love that Colt!). I'm also hoping JJ Abrams can wash the taste of those Star Wars prequels out of my mouth, so I can get back into Star Wars. Learning that Luke and Vader's sabers were old flash tubes about ten years ago is what got me interested in props in the first place!
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to picking up and sharing knowledge with the fine folks around here.

Thanks,

David!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi! I've been lurking for the past week or so, and decided to finally join up :) My main replica costume experience has been with my slave Leia costume and my Sailor Moon costume, which I will post pics/descriptions of on the main forum, and I am currently working on a Lady Thor costume. Though I am a beginner atm, I am interested in eventually getting a job (fingers crossed) in prop-building and prop armor building, so I'm basically here to learn everything I can. Can't wait to read more!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Like a few others in this thread I came here by way of the 405th (I used the same handle over there). I became interested in crafting props primarily through Halo items but I'm looking forward to branching out into other genres. In addition to building items I was pretty involved in making 3D models for paper work over at the 405th.

I've been scouring many RPF threads in the last two weeks and the amount of projects and the varying approaches and methods to them is overwhelmingly awesome. There is so much to read and learn from due mostly to the talented individuals who generously share their work. It's also great to see the level of involvement from the administration (I didn't have a huge amount of hands-on time with the site before the 4/13 update but I think the new site looks and works great).

I'm hugely looking forward to when my new member period is up so the large new member banner is replaced by faster-accessible content.

Thanks RPF.

Hello everyone, I was interested in this site because of the Oblivion forums. I saw that people was helpful and Im planning to make a costume and possibly a weapon from that movie. I hope to learn a lot from here, Im a rookie at this kind of stuff.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey,
I make all types of things, mostly Halloween animatronics. I weld, do some woodworking, make control systems for animatronics, mold making, latex work, metal work and other things associated with the different project I make. I like working on new types of projects and collecting new skills. Im going to college in the upcoming fall for theater technology with a concentration in technical direction. I'm new to the whole movie prop world. But it is something I have recently found myself interested in building some prop replicas.

Im looking for a good beginner replica project that encompasses many different skill sets. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everybody!

New member from NORWAY here!

Thought I should pick up an old dream of doing some replica work, so I guess this is the right place to come. A lot of cool stuff here! As for me, I will try to get started on making myself a replica of the Alien motion tracker. I had no idea that it was built on an actual product!

So that leaves me at trying to track down this Panasonic Ranger-505. I´m afraid that this can be quite expensive, as the TV weighs as much as it does :-/ Question: Is any of the internal parts of the TV used, or do I just need the shell? That way I could get a hold of one much cheaper, since it will be quite lighter and it will be more cheap on shipping.

Thnx!
