Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi guys and gals,

Been browsing the site for a while and thought it was time I signed up :)

I'm not a prop maker/costumer (although I have a friend who is a stormtrooper for UKG - correct canon armour etc..) but I appreciate the skills and talent that goes into making these things and like checking out people's builds.

I have decided to start my own project and am making my own light saber. This is not a movie based one, just a design I'm thinking up of my own (don't actually have a 100% idea of what it'll be just yet, but its evolving as I put random items together)

I have already sorted the electrics (I actually butchered a cheap saber I bought for a tenner (I'm english if you haven't guessed), upgraded the speaker from a walkie talkie I had, altered the power, changed the switch and soldered on some wires for the new LEDs. worked out quite well.. just need a saber to install it in!

If it goes well I do plan to attempt to make a proper movie based saber (most likely the obi) but without any metal turning skill or equipment, it may be a slow and imprecise process. (most i've got is a dremel, files and a glue gun)

Cheers guys, keep up the good work!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings! I'm Wally- New to the site (obviously) and have always been interested in making props, costumes, and other things (mostly sci-fi). Started out in my basement as a kid with low-quality stuff, but have steadily gotten better over time. Haven't made much as it's just a hobby, but still hope to learn from my peers and go further with foam, resin, plastic, fiberglass, metal etc... Just happy to be here!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all!
Was lookin for information on building some items when I stumbled across your group, I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge here, friendly and welcoming!
Me being a novice at building replica anythings, this was a great place to stumble into.
I enjoy action movies and sci fi, always was a fan of horror films of the past and the new ones that show up each year.
I hope to be able to contribute my fair share here one day, thank you for allowing newbs to follow along in your footsteps!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all! Been lurking here for a long time and I think I'm finally ready to jump into the collecting pool big time. I already have quite a few superhero costumes and now I'm looking to start a Doctor Who collection. Tennant's my favorite, so I'm looking to start with his blue suit and move on to the brown coat from there. Just don't wanna break the bank lol. Any other Who fans out there feels free to hit me up and geek out over all things timey wimey.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everyone I'm also new here I mostly come here for ideas for my own projects. I've found out how to do may things thanks to the posts here, like how to work with lights, and make a few props. I am a designer though so I mostly make clothes inspired by superheroes if you ever want to see my work let me know and I will be happy to show you what I do.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello from Europe! After browsing the forum a countless time, I decided to register. My main interests are modern flight helmets (real deal and props). Hoping one day to build a space costume...

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings, like the forum. Not interested in props so much - but really enjoy the descriptions of the building techniques. I guess I'm a construction fan more than a prop fan.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi. I'm 84. No, that's not my age, it's what people call me. Some people also call me "Andreas", which is my parents' fault. 84 used to be the first octet of my IP address way back when I first started editing in a wiki, in case you wonder where that name comes from. Yes, I'm a hopeless geek and I have no intentions to do anything about that. I'm also German and there isn't much that I can do about that. Other than that, I'm 35. Yes, that is my age.

On a side note I'd like to mention that me being called "84" has no connection whatsoever to that other guy in a well known Sci-Fi movie being called "85", nor has it anything to do with the famous novel by George Orwell...

Hi,

I'm PL and I'm 23 years old. I'm from a lovely country called Belgium.

I'm not really thinking of building props myself but I'm very interested in other people's work. I'm also on the fx-sabers forums and I'm a huge Star Wars fan!

greetings

Wanting to get involved in all this started about 6 months ago when after debating weather or not to spend a lot of money on a sideshow built iron man life size bust I looked into building my own on the cheap and that's when I found you guys and seeing the projects a lot of these members are popping out has gave my the push to do it myself, I'll be posting a thread very soon with my four current projects, so keep an eye out, cheers everyone, Wayne

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey Everyone,

I'm Brad, I am 24 years old, and I am from the southeast US.

I've only very recently become interested in creating props and costumes, and found out about this site about a week ago. Ever since, I've spent almost all my free time ogling things other people have made, and getting ideas on where to start myself.

Most of my interest is in armor (i.e. Iron Man, Halo, Space Marines, etc.), and last night I started my first EVER build - a pep-to-fiberglass Iron Man Mark VIII helmet. I'm planning on posting a build thread about it once I get everything cut out and start assembling it.

I'm really looking forward to being part of this community, and I hope that I can contribute to it regularly.

Thanks!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone! My name's Jason, and I'm a newcomer to all prop making stuff. I've been looking around for a while for something to channel my creativity into, and I think I've finally found something I can do that with. I went to my first real Con experience last month and have decided building and showing off my own stuff is too much fun to miss.

As far as interests go, I'm into most of the big name shooter games, like Halo, COD, MoH, and the Mass Effect games. I'm also a big fan of Star Wars, and want to eventually get into building stuff for each of these interests. My number one goal is to have a respectable costume put together by Dragon Con, as I'm probably going to be going down there with some friends this year. If that doesn't work, then I'll at least have it ready by the local sci-fi convention later on this year.

I've been doing a lot of research on the Shepard Armor from Mass Effect 3, but, I recently came across a new idea that I might work on from scratch from that game, the Talon Mercenary Engineer. The instant I unlocked him he became my fav multiplayer class, and I've already got some pretty good ideas on how to build it.

Other stuff I plan on doing later on is a Halo armor suit, probably from Reach as that's the game I started on and the one I feel most attached to, or possibly a set of the cadet armor from the Forward Unto Dawn movies. Also would like to put together a Republic Commando suit from Star Wars, with some less armored character builds in the Star Wars universe to boot.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all,

I'm a freelance illustrator and artist, and have done some Star Wars work over the years. I ended up here after naively searching for information about differences between ANH and ESB Darth Vader costumes, and am bowled over by the information you're all sharing. Thanks very much, and I'll be happy to chip in anything I might know that's helpful.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello!

I'm Dan, I'm 25, and I live in Saint Louis. I'm in the R2 Builder club working on my 1:1 R2-D2. It's my first prop project (a big undertaking). Well, I actually started on a Episode 1 Padawan Obi-Wan saber (my favorite) when I was a teenager but never got around to finishing it.

I'm a web application developer. I enjoy popping in here and lurking and reading build logs and be wowed by the incredible work people are doing. I'm having a lot of fun with R2 and eventually when he's done, I'll be looking for a new project. One at a time for me other wise things won't get done and I don't have the space for another right now.

I'm into Star Wars, video games, gadgets and technology, and programming

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Been lurking for some time; joined a month or so ago.
The only prop work I've done was a proton pack made out of computer junk. Had to leave it behind when I moved north.
Yes, it's in no way "screen accurate" but it did win me first prize at a costume contest.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all

My name is Damien, i'm a professional actor from the south of the UK. i'm heavily into sci-fi, being a fan of Blade Runner, Judge Dredd, Aliens, Terminator and so on.

I'm here because i'm involved in a Judge Dredd Fan Film and I was pointed towards this site for costume and prop ideas for the film.

Our Facebook page is up at https://www.facebook.com/JudgeDreddCursedEdge?fref=ts and it would be great to have you over there to lend your support. We're mashing together a couple of stories from the early 80s and I am playing Judge Turpin in the film.

I am astonished by the incredible detail you talented people have put into your builds and i've been lurking here for a couple of months just soaking up the information being posted up on how to build stuff and where to buy the base materials. I have a couple of friends who have such talent at this sort of thing that I think I will point them towards the forums here in the unlikely event that they aren't already aware of its existence.

Cheers

Damien
