Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **
Greetings, All,
I'm Dean (my friends call me Dino) and currently located in Virginia Beach, VA (though I'm a New York native: South Bronx!). I'm a Retired US Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer, Electronics Technician (ETCM, retired as of 1 Feb 2011): made it to 29 years having to retire before reaching the 30-year mark due to a serious back injury (and three lower back surgeries), which also caused other ailments (so it was retire or be "Medical Boarded Out"). I'm not much good at designing circuits - I leave that to the engineer types - but if something 'tron-based breaks I can usually fix it; although, these days it's all "black box" and not field repairable. (They stopped letting me try to open things up and fix them. I think they were afraid because I learned my skills on "Type-40" tech - vacuum tubes, transistors, etc.
I'm married to a magnificent woman and we've been together 35 years now: two kids; one 28 and married with him and his wife having Masters in Library Science and working full-time in the city's library system. The other one is 22 and a junior in college, studying to be a teacher (like her mom was before she moved to the library system), and is currently attending the spring semester at University of Bath in the UK. Not that we're diehard "Who" fans, but her name is Nyssa (a.k.a. The Evil One, and believe me she is EVIL... she watches the Star Wars movies to take notes from the Emperor and comments on everywhere he gets it wrong; watch out planet Earth!). Oh yeah, and we have two cats.
I found this forum a while back and have been "lurking" because, well, I don't really have much to contribute just yet, but that may change in time. I've always been fascinated with how props are built (both the originals and the replicas) and have been experiencing sensory overload at the wealth of info and prop builds on here!
Well, I think that about does it. I'm glad to be part of this vast storehouse of knowledge and grateful to the Administrators who allowed me in. Thanks to everyone for having me!
Later,
Dino
