Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings, All,

I'm Dean (my friends call me Dino) and currently located in Virginia Beach, VA (though I'm a New York native: South Bronx!). I'm a Retired US Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer, Electronics Technician (ETCM, retired as of 1 Feb 2011): made it to 29 years having to retire before reaching the 30-year mark due to a serious back injury (and three lower back surgeries), which also caused other ailments (so it was retire or be "Medical Boarded Out"). I'm not much good at designing circuits - I leave that to the engineer types - but if something 'tron-based breaks I can usually fix it; although, these days it's all "black box" and not field repairable. (They stopped letting me try to open things up and fix them. I think they were afraid because I learned my skills on "Type-40" tech - vacuum tubes, transistors, etc.

I'm married to a magnificent woman and we've been together 35 years now: two kids; one 28 and married with him and his wife having Masters in Library Science and working full-time in the city's library system. The other one is 22 and a junior in college, studying to be a teacher (like her mom was before she moved to the library system), and is currently attending the spring semester at University of Bath in the UK. Not that we're diehard "Who" fans, but her name is Nyssa (a.k.a. The Evil One, and believe me she is EVIL... she watches the Star Wars movies to take notes from the Emperor and comments on everywhere he gets it wrong; watch out planet Earth!). Oh yeah, and we have two cats.

I found this forum a while back and have been "lurking" because, well, I don't really have much to contribute just yet, but that may change in time. I've always been fascinated with how props are built (both the originals and the replicas) and have been experiencing sensory overload at the wealth of info and prop builds on here!

Well, I think that about does it. I'm glad to be part of this vast storehouse of knowledge and grateful to the Administrators who allowed me in. Thanks to everyone for having me!

Later,
Dino

Hi everyone,
I've visited the site a few times over the years, mostly through internet searches for objects. I haven't really built anything though!! I mean to change that and I am hoping that I will get some help along the way.

I'm your run of the mill geek, I like sci-fi, comics and fantasy. I am supplied in packs of 1.

Howdy howdy,
I just recently joined out of general interest, I've made a few random costumes in the past, but would like to eventually make some more elaborate pieces once I finish up my current project (a kegerator robot). I look forward to lurking!

Hi,

My name is Marie-Claude, I'm from Quebec City. (Canada) I have been a professional seamstress/designer for the last 15 years. I've also worked with any kind of material available and worked with individuals on different projects requiring different sets of skills. For the last 3 years I concentrated my efforts on costumes only, mainly cosplay stuff for myself. I'm here to learn more about the community and find more ressources. Sewing is my passion and my expertise, so don't hesitate to message if you have any technical question. I emphasis on doing things professionally and researching the projects I'm working on.

Glad to meet you all :) My first language is French but I understand English well.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi everybody,

I am Helene. I live in Belgium and I am a Star Wars fan. My job in a real life is developper.
Sorry, my english is not perfect. :)

I have 2 children. My eldest son is 9 years old and he is a Star Wars fan too. The youngest is 3 years old and he wants already his brother's lightsaber!!! My husband likes Star Wars too!

So I have a project : make costumes for all our family and then organise Star Wars parties.
I've already made a jedi knight costume for my son (he wants to be Luke Skywalker) and for myself I'm making Darth Vader's costume. He is my favorite character from all the films and times! For my husband, I'm making Darth Maul's costume and for the youngest - R2D2 or Ewok (I'm not sure yet).

So I hope I'll find good ideas on this forum and exchange ideas with other fans.

Hello Walter!

I'm from the UK, love film and TV that requires 'specialist' props. Been a trek fan most of my life and it went on from there. I have a love of books and paper related objects as well as tech/ gadget props. I have an entire room decorated like an office for a wizard!

You're most likely to find me in the background, observing.

Hey everyone!
My name is Markus and I live in Bavaria.
So, posting is currently not easy for me, but I think I will learn some better English by reading your threads and posting.
I came to the site again and again through internet searches. The reason therefore was my son Simon: It all started when his grandma made him a present of a (absolutely oversized) Hasbro Boba Fett helmet on his 5. birthday; at the same day he showed me some pictures and asked me to build the armor…

Sim-Boba.jpg

What should I say, these first steps were great. I discovered the beautiful world of propbuilding and had great times with Simon building together at his boba armor; several months later he asked me to join the (his and my first) starwars convention at Nürnberg (NorisForceCon III)… this was like a virus we were infected with.

Some day his little sister (5 years old) came and said: “I will have to be Ashoka!”. So the next member of our family was infected …

Sar-Asho.jpg

And now it is me, that wants a costume for himself. Simon just said: “You are Sith!” So the internet search brought me to RPF again… Thank you administrators who allowed me in. Thank you very much, fierfek; you leaded me the way to this project I will be starting now!

And thanks to you all amazing builders sharing your great knowledge.

Yours sincerely,

Markus

Hello everybody! My name is Ian and I am a Boba Fett enthusiast!! Having been a member of the Dented Helmet for some time now, I am two years into the process of making my screen accurate Fett costume. I reckon I have another year left before I finish it.

I'm then going to start work on my own version and design of an IRONMANDO obviously incorporating Iron Man and Mandalorian armour.

With this in mind I decided to join up with the RPF as I've browsed on here before and there is some really cool stuff going on.

I'm looking forward to chatting with some of you and sharing stories, tips and ideas.

All the best to you all!!

Howdy!

I found out about this website from the "Still Untitled" series with Adam Savage on youtube and I found myself with an intense interest rekindled in myself for costuming. Both my wife and I are very much into science fiction and we both love going to conventions. We both want to start building a set of costumes that we can wear to cons, together, and look good and have fun. Recently, we've been going to MLP cons as humanize Luna and one of her guards.

A while ago I was going to do a Stormtrooper but with my size 8 1/8 head, the helmet was going to a MAJOR problem.

I want to take the time to build out a kit and add details and weather what I can to my own costume to make it mine and my wife agrees with me. I'm here to get ideas for the costume set and to find out how to build it.

Off to gather information.
